Excellent information there. I've just got my first drone (Mini 3 Pro) so it's good to have advice like this to keep things safe and legal.

Just got one of these, this video was fantastic. As a pilot also I am also conscious of risks posed to aircraft. But I think humanity is underrated.
Excellent summary and really useful recap of points.

Hey Thebagfather46! Thank you! Really pleased it was useful.
Top tip re helicopters too, but it’s not just emergency helicopters: also watch out for general aviation helicopters being flown badly. I was flying in the Chilterns last week and an R44 came through straight and level at about 50m above ground level and so I had to get my drone out the way very quickly.
Well put over suan, keep up the good work

Superb video thank you. Quick question re land owners permission? Presume it's needed as usual for the Mini 3? Best wishes.
Really helpful. Thank you. I am from Thailand and will be bringing the family on a holiday to the UK this October and was wondering if it is possible to bring my Autel Nano+ (under 250g). Your video answers this question. I will try and get my Flyer ID before I leave for the UK.
As always Sean, thanks so much for the Chanel and up to date video. Take care.

Well put together and very interesting all drone flyers new and old should watch this KZread channel and this particular link.
excellent advice Sean as usual I wonder if we can get liability insurance for a small drone just incase it does harm someone's property or person ill have to look in to that. Well it's been confirmed my mini 3 has been dispatched so looking forward to this. are you getting the mini 3 my friend. 😁👌🇬🇧
Great Video, very helpful. Thank You. Waiting for Santa to bring my Christmas pressie . DJI Mini 4 Pro.
Great tips!!!! Fly safe people ;) Avoid dry branches and wires of any kind ;) Check your propellers with your finger, you will feel a crack or if uneven place, time to change that propeller. Thanks 🙏

Great video and really useful info for those starting out and a gentle reminder to more seasoned drone pilots. I was interested to hear you include the Air Ambulance and common sense should kick in when these are around but it may be useful to know that the general aviation rule when two aircraft are heading straight towards each other at the same height is to break right. That's what an Air Ambulance (or any other aircraft) is going to do in this situation but landing immediately should be your first action on hearing another aircraft close by.

I gave up flying drones, some years ago. The reason being that I was often accosted by members of the public telling me that “You can’t fly drones here”. I knew the rules, and was doing nothing wrong. One guy even threatened me that if I didn’t land my drone, he’d do it for me. Drones seem to be an emotive subject for many people. I am considering getting a mini 3. Hopefully I won’t run into too many Karens.. 🙄

I used to work at RAF Lossiemouth many years ago. I’d be surprised if an Air Ambulance would be transiting at the same height that drones fly at. And would even be able to see a Mini 2 or Mini 3. Birdstrikes would be a bigger risk to helicopters.
Appreciate this informative content! For all of us who waited this long for the Mini 3, let us all enjoy by flying safely and responsibly.

Very concise info for newbies - excellent =) additionally, Get a Class 2 which will allow to have almost all benefits as A1 below 250g ( apart from intentionally flying over people)- increasing your weight allowance from 250-500 grams - so that you can have those extra Nav Lights etc

Question: What's going to happen with Mini 3 pro in regards to the classes by the end of this year (or 2023?) since it's not class certified yet? Will we be allowed to fly it close to people either for fun or for work with A2 CofC course, or it will fall into A3 category and get lost?
Thanks for the video, I decided to take the flyer ID test even though I fly the DJI mini 2 because it was really useful to know what the regulations are and it is free

Hey William! Thanks for sharing your experience. I think it is a really useful thing to do. Also shows others you have the knowledge!
Very good video. I was reading it is allowed to take a drone onboard many flights with it having a small battery I am due to fly soon will be airports be informed.
Question : I have a dji mini 3 pro as it comes with the battery 249 g, I watched your video and when on the website did the theory and passed the test . I have to put the operator id in the drone and have my flyer id with me . im flying for recreation only so I don't need an insurance for that drone. question : what would be the next step ? is uk civil aviation authority , proof of completion valid anywhere to fly in Europe ? at the bottom it says a1 &a3 open sub category. ps: what's your location maybe we meet one day in march because im flying to Europe I don't have any friends there !
Hi Thank you for information 😁 Do you know what happened if you broke the rules? And what about the places where drones are not allowed? What about drones under 250?
Many thx Sean for your insightful comments much appreciated. Just a question, I’ve joined FPVUK and have their public liability ins. would I be covered to take pictures of a roof with the owners permission, for a friend of mine who wants to clean his customers roof? I would be using Mavic mini 3 pro. -Ken
Just the video I needed thank you for that… one question for earning money I Hurd I need commercial endurance but do I need any further training ?
Great clear video , I was confused for a while when I bought my mini se , now since getting my flyer I d and operator I d ,, all is crystal thanks to videos like urs ,, cheers shane uk 🇬🇧
Brilliant. To the point. loving your work ! Big help.
Hi there thanks for the information. Airspace control areas seem to be everywhere is it possible to fly in these up to 120 meters with a drone as most are flight paths by the looks of it they are in a white boarder on the app.
Well worth a listen too, regards TJK UK.
I live near Stanstead airport, is there any restrictions for theses areas or is there somewhere I can find out? Great video for the novice like me, that’s if my mini 3 ever arrives 🙈.
I was so close to wanting a DJI Mini 3 but the shutter speed doesn't go anywhere near the long exposure I'm looking for. I want a minimum of 12 seconds, but 20 seconds or more would be great. Are there any small drones with cameras that will do this?
Great update Sean. I’m pretty familiar with the rules but really good opportunity to catch a reminder.

Great video! Can drones that weigh less than 250 grams be flown in the UK at night?
Hi I am from Germany and will get a Mini 3 Pro soon. Shortly after I get it I will be on a holiday on Jersey island. Will there be the rules just as explained here for the UK?
Thanks for such a great video. I am thinking of getting a DJI Mini Pro 3. I was wondering what all the rules were. This is a great video for beginners
So if I understand correctly, I can basically fly the Mini 3 Pro in cities over people (not dense crowds) and close to buildings etc provided I am being very careful and not flying recklessly? All of the 50m away from property etc isn't relevant?
I have the mini 3pro and if I have set my return to home at 150ft and when it’s time to come home (ie battery low ) if at that time the drone is at say 350ft it will not descend to 150ft but come home at the height it’s ,if it’s less it will go up to that height to come home
Thank u I didn’t know I need an operator id
so at take off and drone is in hover does that mean you can fit nd filters if it takes it just over 250 grams?
Brilliant intro to the drone starter guide, much better than some "professional" guides, as you say it's not supposed to be difficult however some professionals get rules and requirements mixed over the drone rules, I stood in a park the other day watching two guys arguing about the "Rules" and it was clear one was a "professional" and was conflagrating the rules and adding HIS requirements and would not listen to the poor newbie. (I know better I do this for a living) Turned out to be a police officer and until I assisted was threatening confiscation, arrest, etc. Even after the much calmer conversation, he was insistent that rules were being broken. It was a pity as it spoiled what was a dad enjoying the day with his boys 😥

What's been your experience with flying in central London particularly in areas like Tower Bridge/The Thames? Have you run into the law, have they forced you away? Are places like Buckingham Palace (not over the building) allowed to be filmed?
@streaky81
Жыл бұрын
Those areas all have airspace restrictions around them anyway. As does then entire City of London. I was scratching my head watching the footage in this video because it looks inside R158 (which does extend past the south bank of the Thames opposite the City) - but it's sometimes hard to tell with drone footage and there is a small gap between 158 and 157. Flying in R158 is a big nono, ditto R157, then south of that you have the London Heliport (and you have City Airport to the east making things worse) - so yeah, huge swath of London is unflyable without permission specifically from NATS; you can do it, they have a website for it and that may be the case for the footage in this video and that just shows how fraught things like this can be.
Any similar video for Air 2s and flying laws?
Superb information - exactly the sort of info I wanted to know.
Subscribed.
hi there just asking if you have any video of drone bigger then 2kg as i got given a dji inspire 2 as my friend just upgraded to the dji inspire 3 and as this is a 3 to 4kg drone i dont know much about were to fly this as i had a few drone like the dji mini 2 and the dji marvarc pro and the rule a difftent for this type of drones since i last fly one in this class as i see lot of video on sub 250g drone but not many on drone over 2kg to 4 kg as there a not a relly many people fly drone other then profacion flying them from what people nomaly fly around i know is is a bit of a diffent subject but as i see at this moment there alot lot of people looking into buy these drone as there getting cheaper on the used market now
Any ideas how things work on Dartmoor? The DNPA website says it's not allowed, but as far as I'm aware they have no jurisdiction of the airspace. So my understanding is that it is not allowed to RELEASE a drone there but it is allowed to fly one as long as you release it off of common land.
@steventrick3567
2 жыл бұрын
There are (quite old) bylaws in place for Dartmoor which ban 'model aircraft' from being launched or flown over the park without permission. As I undertand it this does include drones, however they appear to accept that this is ambiguous so they are currently trying to update the bylaws to refer to drones specifically.
Great video, thank you. If flying a sub 250g drone, taking off and landing from a safe public space - are you allowed to fly over private property/land even if the private property/land has "no drone flying" signs on their land - obviously, not flying within a NFZ or NOTAM area. The drone code point 8 says you have to follow signage? Does that mean everyone can just put up a sign to prevent drone users?
@Geeksvana
Жыл бұрын
Hey Martin! The Drone Code is an excellent form of guidance. But it is just that, guidance. The legislation is often a little different. Overall, the quick answer is you are fine to fly over private land, even if they do not want you there, unless there is a specific restriction or legislation to stop you. The longer answer… In England and Wales, any landowner can stop activity on their land. So if I did not want you operating a drone ‘from’ the land, I have the right to ask you to stop etc. This is usually, depending on how you respond, a civil matter and not related to CAA rules. It is important to check if the sign is backed up by a bylaw or specific legislation. If it is, the sign should have this noted in the corner in small text, this is a good way to see if the sign is just a home print job! You can fly over private land but should be aware that recovering the drone might be more difficult if you are already aware the landowner does not want you there. Being REALLY pedantic, it could be argued that flying somewhere you know you are not wanted COULD be a safety issue. I produced a video as a guide in terms of council powers over drone flight and take off permissions came up a few times. It also features input from a Barrister, (I am not legally qualified), so it could help you: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dIB9yphwp8qXp8o.html Hope this helps. Throw me an email if I have got the wrong end of the stick - sean@geeksvana.com.
What about flying in central London? Like over the Thames? I thought drones are totally banned? Also in the royal parks?
Can we fly over national park? Like Peak district or lake district?
On first glance there are no differences between the European Drone Rules (legislation 2019/947) and the UK-rules, even after BRexit. Is this correct?
Emergency service helicopters don't normally have ADSB fitted, maybe this is a question for your next chat with the CAA. New DJI drones have the ADSB facility and can now see on coming planes equipped with ADSB, so surly all emergency helicopter should be fitted accordingly. I think the idea of ADSB is to make planes/helicopters to stand out and be safe, so make this happen to all aviation,like it is in the States.This happened to me recently where an ambulance helicopter landed about 500ft away from where i was just about to take off.the ADSB facility on the drone would have warned me.Luckily i didn't take off as i heard the helicopter at the last minute as it approach at low level. All i am pushing for is the aviation sector needs to all have ADSB fitted.
I live in Denmark and have taken the European A1/A3 licenses (which seems to be the same as what you refer to). And yes, I have my pilot number printed on the M3P including contact information. And an insurance covering up to 1.000.000 Euros. So do I need to take the same license if I go and visit UK or does my European license cover it?
@Geeksvana
Жыл бұрын
Hey Ole! You will unfortunately need to go through the process again here in the UK. Although the systems are currently similar, they are separate. For the Mavic 3, you will need an Operator and Flyer ID. Although for the Mini 3 Pro, you only need the Operator ID. Hope this helps.
As a tourist with a mini2, would they need to sign up to the UK system?
How is this for people that visit the UK from other country’s? Do they need to do thinks before they start flying there sub 250 gram drone ?
Thinking about buying the mini SE do I need license?

thank you soooooo much for making this for the UK rules - btw, a 'crowd' according to the rules is more than 1000 people. so things like concerts etc. what about FRZs? i use UAV drone assist and where i wanted to fly is right in the middle of an FRZ - is this a complete no go?
@Geeksvana
Жыл бұрын
Hey Zombie! Thanks for the kind feedback. The definition of group for overflight is no longer a number but instead a group of people who cannot move out of the way quickly. That could be a few people having a picnic etc. To fly in an FRZ, you will need to apply for permission from the airport or organisation who control it. Certainly flight inside without are a complete no go without it. Hope this helps.
