Watch This BEFORE You Buy a 2000-05 Chevy Impala 9C1 Police Package

This car came so close to replacing the Ford Crown Victoria, except it was 2 cylinders short and wrong wheel drive...
The impala 9c1 is still one of the best deals you can find in the used cop car market! with its proven tough 3.8L V6 it makes for a great cheap and affordable family sedan.
but it aint no crown vic though...

Randy! I have an 02 Impala too and I can't believe how little it has cost me to run over the eight years I've had it. Amazing in the snow and not a scratch after some pretty serious fender benders. 141k and looking forward to 100k more. This car is the best kept secret on the road and I will buy another without blinking an eye when the time comes to do so. Enjoy yours!!

One of your patrol cars, was it the Impala or Crown Vic ? I take it that you are either a former police officer, or still an active duty officer. Just wondering, have you driven the 90's Chev Caprice Classic ? I've been in the 1988 Caprice Classic, but not been in the 90's version. I find the 1988 Caprice to be very comfortable car, and with huge trunk, as well as everything else being large. Thanks You.

I honestly dont mind the front wheel drive or v6 my mom had a civilian version and she loved it maybe thats why its one of my fave impalas cuz i grew up in the backseat of one anything can be turned into a fast car if you know what you're doing i love the crown vic but the vics main problem was thag it was under powered for its weight the impala didnt have that problem i believe it was lighter rhan the vic

  • @Lincolnator721

Impala is lighter and it's a unibody. The crown victoria has a true frame like a truck, believe it or not. Jumping a curb is more practical in the crown victoria. The crown victoria also has a more out of date engine that goes back to 1992. The crown vic also happens to be wider and longer so I'm not sure why people compare the two. Currently I drive a 2004 Chevy impala and 2003 Ford crown victoria p71. Both are wonderful cars to drive. If I wanted to drive a long trip with my family on vacation I'd drive the crown victoria only because it has a better spring package (haul weight better)

That's a fair analysis of those cars, I drove several of them back when they were new. When they first came out, I remember being sad that it was so small, lacked the presence on the road that a Vic has, no V8, and no rear wheel drive, just like you said. You should've mentioned the fun quirk on these cars - the surveillance mode switch - it would kill all the lights to "black it out" when parked at night.

I have replaced ALOT of these 3800 engines AND transmissions in these. The plastic lower intake gaskets/upper plastic plenum fail and send coolant into the oil. This softens the bearings and they rod knock. Also they leak oil like crazy from the oil pan gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Transmissions are fairly weak as well.

I never cared about not having a freaking Crown Victoria. My front wheel drive got me around in a lot of bad weather situations. I love my mom's Mercury Marauder tho. It is nice and fast as hell. But...I loved my Impala. It was really comfortable for me. More so than the Crown Victoria would be.

I own the 2005 Impala Vin K model. I'm not sure if it was an ex police car but if not, it was definately a security car. Removed the Roll cage/Police Partition/bars, and foolishly gave them to my father-in-law. Just found out the Police partition alone is worth $200 to $500 depending on condition. (FUCK ME! I'm repossessing that ASAP!) The car is amazing though. I fell in love with it and use it as my daily driver. I plan on restoring it completely. (Seats are a bit damaged and so is the dashboard vinyl.) I actually plan on creating a collection of old police cars so this car, being the first in my collection, will be loved and fully restored. Even if I have to do an engine swap later on down the road. (Will swap for a lower mileage of the same exact engine though. My point is, very reliable car for me, and even getting it second hand, the most intensive repairs I have to do on it are Driverside Tie rod and Wheel bearing assembly. Which will be required to pass next year's inspection. Literally the only other repairs I've done on this vehicle since I purchased it second hand are replace the battery, pick seat belt connectors from a junk yard, alternator, new tires, and install aftermarket horn. (As the clockspring is too expensive for a simple damn horn connector.)

Although I fucked my radio up trying to bench test it after failing to get it to illuminate, but I think I just had too high of a resistor for my LED. prolly gonna go back at some point and redo them with lower OHM resistors. but if you have time on your hands it is totally worth it! not hard at all just time consuming a bit.

fwd does much better in regular driving, Everytime I do anything in my Vic the rear end throws out, really pisses me off because these fuckers around here go 40 over the limit and don't slow down for anything but the imaginary asshole that makes them slam on their brakes. one thing I cannot stand as compared to the GM cars is the whiplash from the brakes on my Vic, idk if it's all Vic's or just mine but it's got all new pads and rotors with fresh fluid and my God you have to baby the brakes to not get pulled forward 6 inches at the slowest of stops. the gm cars(not specifically the Impala because a lot of their cars shared the brake setup) the brakes let off a little right before you stop and it won't whiplash you at all unless you're giving it to it, and as far as engine power wise yeah the Impala is slower but you don't have to put your foot into it to get it to go unlike my vic. I have a 95 Riviera with the 3800 and it behaves much better, much more relaxing to drive the steering is lighter, brakes smoother and less daunting, now everything else about that car is fine, but what helps mine is that it's supercharged, but you don't have to get the supercharger to spool up to make it get out of it's way, and even though that car only has 5 more hp than my Vic and the same torque it's world's faster transmission shifts smoother and at the correct spot every time.(if you give it gas at any speed below 40 the tires will chirp) Ford may have got it right with the Vic but there should've been notice taken to why GM went the other direction.

Crown Vics are more durable but the impala especially with the fold down rear seat, The impala is a much more functional family car while the crown vic would be only good for police cruisers. Impala’s gas mileage is awesome for this size vehicle.

These impalas are probably my most hated cars ever made. You can't even compare this to the crown Victoria's. The steering sucks, the seats are uncomfortable and it's nothing but constant maintenance.

I used to drive a 2002 Chevrolet Impala base with a 3400 V6 I liked it that particular car but I didn't like the engine that was in it it drove well my sister purchase this car in 2013 and I got into an accident with it in 2016 and now I am driving an 07 Chevrolet Impala hoping that this car will get me to A & B but I love the 2000 to 2005 Impala especially the ones with the 3800 V6 and supercharged 3800 V6 don't not get an 2000 Impala with a 3400 V6 they suck unreliable you'll regret it get one with a 3800 V6 you won't regret it

I take it your 3400's head gasket blew some point around 120k miles? Despite that happening to me in my '04, it was mostly smooth sailing all the way past 220k miles since then with exception to a $1200 all-at-once deferred maintenance package around 185k miles (tires, front realignment... a couple other things). Got rid of it just before 232k miles when my mechanic said the cat & tranny were on their final lap. If it was a 3800, I would've maybe considered those insanely expensive repairs. But it was time to move on; starting the mid 20's off with the same car FROM HIGH SCHOOL... time for a change smh...

@@schwenda3727 my sister purchase this Impala with 90,000 miles and it was a salvage titled Impala it blew the head gasket at 95,000 miles my sister and her husband replaced the engine and transmission then a few months down the line replace a starter then a few months after that radiator and other than keeping the maintenance up putting few tires up on their stuff it was good running car I still miss it and I gave it a nickname Casper the reliable piece of shit that's what I gave it because of the color and it kind of was but didn't quite look like a piece of shit but it drove well

Dodge and Chrysler is basically under the same roof, different divisions and brands, and logos, but not too much different. Although I could be wrong, but as I remembered it, Dodge is the head company, then you got the others as well. Dodge. Chrysler. Plymouth. Jeep. Ram. Fiat. Was at some point called Diamler Chrysler, when Chrysler and Mercedes Benz, was joined together, since then they have split. I believe around early 2000's approx 2004 or so.

The original Chevy Caprice Classic, thats the king, police depts all over chose to rebuild those cars and use them, even after they were discontinued, and eventually gradually replaced the caprice with the Ford Crown Vic.
