I’m thinking about getting the g29 it’ll be my first “actual” racing wheel. Iv owned the thrust master t80 and love it but doesn’t quite have the feel, no forced feed back and limited rotation etc. do you think this is a good next jump? If not what do you think would be a better mid tier wheel? Final question, what does the red thing do?

Disclaimer for entry-level buyers! The wheel and pedals are sturdy. They're well made, the plastic isn't cheap and they have weight to them. The leather is a good touch, but not as great as the metal rim it's sewn on. Logitech always have good-feeling peripherals, their plastic stands the test of time and desk smashing. Now, build-quality aside, the biggest reason why you would want to get this wheel over Thrustmaster's wheels of the same price range, are the pedals and the shifter if you want to drift or drive manual, without busting the bank in entry-level price point. This wheel comes with a clutch, brake and throttle pedal already (which as i stated, feel sturdy and not cheap) with a 60$ 6-speed shifter add-on. It's not great and feels lower quality than the wheel and pedals, but it's only 60$ and perfectly usable. If you decide to get Thrustmaster's T150 or T300, you'll have to pay for the metal pedals that also include a clutch (otherwise, you only have Brake and Throttle). However, having a clutch pedal without a shifter is pointless. Which is where the big deal-breaker comes in; the Thrustmaster TH8A shifter costs 220$ So, if you want to drift or drive manual, the G29+Shifter will cost you 280$ in total. With Thrustmaster, you have: T150 (200$)+T3PA pedals (200$)+TH8A shifter(220$) and you reach a total of approximately 620$. That's 340$ more for the same setup. However, Thrustmaster have higher-end wheel bases and more sim-centered add-ons in their ecosystem, while Logitech only has the G29 and the shifter. If you're looking for entry-level gear for entry-level pricing and you want to be able to drift and drive manual and overall have more possibilities and features, get the G29 with the Shifter. If you have 340$ more to spare, you can get the T150+T3PA+TH8A shifter now and upgrade with Thrustmaster add-ons from their product range. I'' personally get the G29+Shifter and if i get into sim racing, i'll save up for Fanatec's upcoming CSL DD base (which will get cheaper as time goes on, i won't upgrade for a good while) Fanatec beats Thrustmaster in all regards, except for aviation or trucking gear. And price, but we're talking sim-racing here.

Unnecessary video imo. Sim racing is definitely not a cheap hobby to maintain, and those entry wheels have a huge impact SPECIALLY if you consider people from countries with not that good of an economy. I had to spend a few months saving money so I could get a g920 just to try sim racing out and I'm having loads of fun with it. The cheapest product int the market will never have the same attributes as more expensive ones, but thanks to them, people like me, who can't afford better gear without saving money for years, can also have fun.

I assume the small size is mainly to reduce the leverage you have on the wheel, making the perceived force feedback stronger. It’s the reverse of why older cars without power steering had much larger wheels.

is it the best budget wheel though, i mean is it really? because when i purchased a g29 it almost ALMOST put me off sim racing for life, it feels nothing like a car in any way shape or form, no car on the planet has such notchy steering for a start which means it instantly fails at simulating what its designed to simulate which is driving a car, its loud and clunky and has a tiny wheel as mentioned in the video and all of this has the power to turn people away from sim racing because they think this is it... this is what sim racing is, nothing like a real car. but that couldn't be further from the truth, for not too much more you can buy a thrustmaster T300 which is by FAR much more like driving a car, for a start the wheel turns nice and smoothly, so it immediately feels more like a real car which has fluid hydraulic assisted steering, its quieter and smoother in the feedback aswell, the T300 is the true ''best budget'' wheel. having force feedback isn't the only requirement of sim racing, i would argue just feeling like a real car to start off with is more important and if you have to spend a little bit more that's way more worth it than risking being turned off by that notchy crap, and its still budget friendly, if you can afford to buy a g29 you can probably find the extra for a t300. oh and im in no way a thrustmaster fan, ive had a g29, t300, TGT, fanatec clubsport v2.5, fanatec DD1 and now own a simucube 2 pro... so i have had hands on with enough to know the differences and i would NEVER recommend new sim racers just buy a g29 because its popular, popular don't make it good, its pretty crap overall simply because it fails at primary task number 1 and that's feeling like a real car. the g29 is not alone... even the fanatec DD1 has some mild notchy feeling to the steering and that thing costs as much as a real car, i wouldn't recommend that wheel base either because next to a lot of other direct drives it fails at feeling like a real car for that simple reason.

@@jinx20001 In Canada, the G29 is $300. The T300 RS is $470 and the T300 RS GT is $550. I wouldn’t say most people that can afford the G29 are able to pay 50%+ more for the Thrustmaster “budget” options. For someone who doesn’t know 100% if racing is for them, the G29’s price tag makes it a easier pill to swallow.

I don't get what this video is for. All of these 'flaws' are simply a necessity considering the very good price. It has all the features you would want to start with. Of course it is not going to be as high quality as something multitudes its price and you can't expect that from it. You do say you made this video purposefully negative for views and do talk positively about the wheel at the end but I just don't think this is going to help anybody interested in one of these. They will just get halfway through the video and think 'Oh, so this wheel sucks, I guess I can't get into this without spending 500 bucks' which as far as I am concerned is simply untrue.

The G25 is still on my 2nd rig, but with CSL Elite pedals! I’ve got no real complaints about the G29, except the pedals are really its shortcoming. You can mod the springs to an extent, but a load cell brake like on the CSL Elite are 100 times better.

It’s not noisy once you tune the ffb in the sim. There are different options in each game that make that. Usually is road details or wheel friction. Once you lower them it’s not noisy, and ffb is actually smoother. Also, I changed the rim for a gt3 mclaren 3D printed, and installed a load cell mod on the brake, and swap the springs to be stronger. If you can get your hand on a 10bit leo Bodnar cable the pedals improve a lot, it is a game changer really

At discount, yes. But at full price you could even get a T300RS for less, which is the better wheel. Even the G923, which added not much besides "Trueforce", which only emulates FFB and the addition of the compability to the new consoles, is at 400€ way too expensive for that piece of plastic. The T300RS costs less and is, while longer on the market, more up to date.

It took me over an hour to even be able to go around Brands Hatch without crashing becuase I have never driven a car IRL. The brake pedal is very stiff, but I found that adjusting the deadzone heavily in FM7 made it usable. I also found that turning off the Force Feedback and then easing it up to default helped me learn quicker. When I had the FFB on at the start I didn't know how much I needed to fight it, so I was basically following what the wheel wanted to do and spinning out a lot.
