Watch Sushi being Made by a Pro Right in Front of Your Eyes
Ойын-сауық
Sushi is one of the most popular Japanese foods, but we rarely see how sushi is actually made into that shape. This time, we found a restaurant where a sushi chef trained in Kyoto for decades can make sushi in front of you in a private space. Not only does it taste delicious, but seeing the actual process of making sushi is an experience you will never forget.

After 9 trips to Japan, the thing I love about Japanese culture is the care, attention to detail, and the ability to raise any activity to an art form, from taking a bath to dining on sushi. I miss the people from the land of the rising sun. I hope to some day visit again.

yea, the destroyed eco systems, pollution, and endangered species left in the wake of this exquisite food tradition. the care and attention to detail in butchering whales, sharks, and dolphins to extinction.

The hands of the Master Sushi Chef while making the nigiri had a rhythm and the technique. Everything has a purpose.
16:15 Maidenhair tree...also a gingko tree, is certainly a softer wood...similar to some harder pine species (for those of you here in the U.S.)...with a hardness of about 3300N. Here in the U.S. people all want hardwood cutting boards that are twice as hard as that because they don't realize how bad it is for their knives. They just want what LOOKS good and don't really care too much about what actually WORKS well.

I love how sushi is just as much an art as it is a cuisine.
the chef makes it took sooo easy to do onigiri omg
What everyone wants to know, of course, is did you hold your hand 3.2 inches up from the edge at a 48º angle when you flipped open the _noren?_
Watching the sushi preparation is awesome, it's all so well put together with precision.

Shogo you always have the FRESHEST and most DELICIOUS Japan content on KZread!
With the preparation style and the intense emphasis on proper etiquette, no wonder Japanese cuisine is listed as one of the Five Great Cuisines. It really is like the Eastern Hemisphere’s version of haute cuisine.
This was such a wonderful video. I love sushi but I usually wind up dining alone because no one else around me is interested. Also, this chef really elevated his sushi to the highest level and watching Japanese people experience his creations together made me feel like I was back in Japan. Uni is one of my favorites and I will dream of having uni sushi like the one you had.
Honestly, the hidden gem experience series are my favourite videos! I really feel like I get an idea of the experience and it teaches me about the best authentic experiences available in Kyoto. I hope viewership increases for these videos because it’s one of the reasons I love the channel!❤️❤️❤️
This is so interesting! The sushi chef is SUCH an artist!
I would absolutely love to watch the process of how the sushi chef made the egg dish to make the egg cube. That would be a special treat to know how to make it at home... or at least try to make it at home. Thank you Shogo for such a lovely treat!!!
That food and restaurant look absolutely divine.
I'd love to go there and try the sushi just like you did. They looked so delicious.
I like the calming atmosphere the whole experience has Anybody who visits is sure to have a wonderful time eating at said restaurant

Sushi is really delicious and I love sushi and onigiri rice balls so much! I always make some at home and seeing how professionals make sushi is really amazing and so tasty! Thank you so much for a great video Shogo!
The one dollar sushi 🍣 I ate in Tokyo was better than the sushi I ate in Toronto
Wow that looked so delicious, idk why but the rice ball looked the most appealing.
Wish I had the money to go to Japan, I don't know much about the language, but I know plenty about the culture from just watching Shogo. I'm currently learning Japanese, and once I do, watch out Japan! I'm coming for you! :D
I love this. I just love the Japanese culture, so much thought and attention to detail go into things...the eating experience...everything is done perfectly with such care and effort. The surroundings are comfortable, immaculately clean, relaxing. The food is made and presented like fine art, portion sizes are perfect, everything is presented and timed just right. Truly a feast for the senses. Love the look of that ark shell. Like a bowtie!
The amount of detail in your washoku cuisine is just... A lot. Kind of makes me wonder whether you all made this up/Invented it out of boredom or out of artistic sophistry. Come to India if you can Shogo - san. Will treat you to some dishes here. Though I guess you Japanese people might be weirded out by our... closeness.
Watching the prep work shows the true artisan and craftsman of the servers. Impressive 👍

Yeah cost definitely is a factor for ne too! In the US I ate sushi a lot growing up... but later, with an adult appetite (and budget), it just was too expensive, $100 (10,000 ¥)... and that was of mediocre quality I imagine a meal as exquisite as this would be a lot more?
Eguii subarashii, sushi mecca kirei 🥺👏🏻
I'm so hungry now. Will be going to buy cheap sushi later.
Hi shogo! Can you explain what’s the difference of samurai and ninja/shinobi? Keep up the great work!

Hey, it's a thing with this video, this seems like the type of place, but you make reservations, within a month or a week in advance, but most likely, a month in advance and it's very expensive.
UMAI! 👺

Hi Shogo San, how much was this chef’s course? I would like to put it on my list if I ever find time to visit Japan! ^_^
Sushi looks so amazing. I got confused by the video since it kept showing Shogo from different angles not his dinner companion. What happened did your friend have messy hair and didn't want to be on camera? it looks like you had a amazing time though
now THAT'S a cutting board! i'm guessing not from ikea.. 🙂 though wouldn't it be funny if a sushi chef came across one that happened to be perfectly suited but it happened to be part of a dresser
😍😍😍😍😍😍
So curious to know the cost of this tasting menu!
Next time Shogo must focus on shooting and let Tomoko and Kazu do the eating of the deliciousness.
Oishi!!
And now I'm hungry again...
It looks really amazing but how much would a full meal at that restaurant cost?
Was that sudati that the chef squeezed to accent one of the conger eel preparations?
I'm getting really hungry now...
I really wanna start Iaido but i don't have enough money, do you know where i can find a little bit cheaper uniforms? btw love your content
A question: In omakasé restaurants can I ask that some type of food NOT to be among the choices the chef makes? I'm extremely allergic to shellfish (shrimp, lobster, crab, prawns, etc.), so even though I'd love to visit a restaurant like the one shown in the video, I'd have to avoid it if I can't make sure I won't be offered things I can't and won't eat.

You'd also want to ask them what precautions they take to prevent cross contamination in the kitchen with storage and prep work.

Yeah wow you are allergic to all seafood? (to my understanding shrimps, prawns, lobsters, are not "shellfish"). Also, I guess that not all people in the world are use to eat sea uchin, congel eel, yellowtail simmered fish... maybe there is a touristic version?

Hey Shogo is there anywhere that you recommend buying a katana from?
So what season is uni not in season? I want to go, but I don't like uni. :(
I noticed that the Apprentice brushed on some tare or sauce on the sushi. I was wondering about how much per person.

Wait! It is 31 of July and you were wearing a coat. How does it can be winter in Japan?
wow the work life of a japanese style waitress. all that kneeling and standing while not dropping food! i don't think i could get down or up without grunting even with my hands free :D ...so i guess that job's not for me.
In a single word: Jealous. Sushi is rare in my area.

Maybe it is different!! But this also brings alot of questions like if in America changes the way its prep?

It all comes down to quality of ingredients (protein, greens, rice) and how the sushi is made.
@theperceptor9287

I'm sure it's a combination of both the ingredients and the way it is prepared in America they don't spend a lot of time to an individual person we tend to mass produce for more people to earn higher profits. Unfortunately but if they catered to a few the cost would go up per customer, so give and take.

@@theperceptor9287 is a combination of quality, how is prepared and served, and how is eaten: In Israel we dip the sushi as the sashimi, into soya or Teriyaki sauce, into Japanese spicy mayo, they ate the sushi with the brushed sauce only
@theperceptor9287

@@empress2529 Hello and thank you for sharing how you eat sushi in Israel. In America we usually have ours with soy sauce, ginger, and wassabi. I've never been offered the mayo and also rice is served but not as a rice ball. Some sushi is wrapped in seaweed but never the rice. And if I remember correctly in the video he mentioned that rice was kept in vinegar to keep it fresh. Most Americans don't like vinegar so our rice is manufactured and stored differently. I would love to taste a true Japanese rice ball some day. Thanks again for telling me about sushi in your country I appreciate it. Take care
