Someone I used to church with (a leader within that church) text messaged me the other day, expressing their offense at my very vocal opposition to Furtick and Elevation “Church” in general. He called Furtick “very solid and anointed.” It scares me how many Christians lack discernment with respect to false teaching. People really need to repent for ascribing to the seeker-sensitive gospel, because it’s a distraction from the *real* gospel.

Love your ministry! I used to attend a similar church. In fact, we used to copy Elevation on many fronts. I found people will always attend these mega churches because their identity is in the lead pastor and their ministry, not Christ. No one would challenge anything the pastor said in fear of losing their ministry. In fact, people will let the pastor walk all over them and be down-right mean because they want to stay associated with the big, popular church. It's sad. Took my a while catch on, but I eventually did!

Honestly I took a completely different interpretation from that. Yes God does have the unbelievers’ back because He offers them salvation and eternal life. The question is are you going to accept it and trust God. Jesus is knocking at the door so are you going to open it and invite Him in? When I was a catholic but not comfortable due to the inadequacies I was finding out I started from scratch in my journey. I knew God was real but who what why where and how was all unknown to me. I was justifiably concerned about my view of Jesus and how it didn’t match up with what I was learning. But through it all I knew God had my back and would lead me to the truth if I looked hard enough. I was blessed with an undeniable confirmation one night when shadows were attacking me that cannot be anything less than divine intervention. As a shadow was choking me I screamed for Jesus to please come and save me from this even though I was still unsure if He was truly God, and He came like lightening, scattering those things forever. I sat up and He told me He is the truth. I hugged Him and He picked me up and layed me back into my body which I apparently wasn’t in anymore and I fell asleep. I’ve never had a shadow come near me again. I also know the truth now and was literally reborn in the Spirit of God so confidently that my life is changed forever and I’ll give it up before I ever deny Christ again. My point is yes He most certainly does have your back even when you don’t quite know yet. This is not heresy and you are what is called a heresy hunter when you find one statement and take it out of context to make a video. That is shameful so saying it’s not a sinful attack means nothing when it is. Some things aren’t meant for all to hear. Sometimes few need to be reminded of a simple truth when everything seems complicated. Someone out there in his audience needed to be reminded that God does have their back. That is not heresy.

I think what Colin is stating with his arguments is that an unbeliever, who has not believed in Christ yet, is in enmity against God. In order for a person's life to be transformed and renewed, one must come to know who Jesus is. In Elevation, there seems to be an ample amount of unbelievers inside their congregation. If Furtick does want to tell the congregation (including the possible unbelievers) that God has their back, he should have explained and defined it more Biblically, otherwise some unbelievers may misunderstand. We love because He first loved us, this speaks that even if we were unbelieving before, He did love us, and that is wonderful! It is so that His Love cannot tolerate sin and wrongdoing in you. Thats why repentance and knowing Jesus Christ is crucial. This speaks for the Doctrine of Election and Predestination and the Work of the Holy Spirit. Lets pray that the unbelievers not just in Elevation but in other Churches can come to know the Truth about Christ through sound Biblical Teaching!!

Baptism is an essential part of being saved. Please read Romans 6:3-5 "Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. " Also acts 2:38. "Peter replied, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. " Also 1st Peter 3:21 "and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand-with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. " The Bible speaks clearly that baptism is essential for salvation.

There are verses that support the idea of universalism and that perhaps God does “have our backs”: Luke 3:6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Matthew 18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish? Luke 3:5-6 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. This is the beauty of the bible. One can cherry pick a verse to support many claims. I wonder why God doesn’t simply come down and clear things up…

@@Jonas-gl9ke Hi, Jonas! I'd like to help share some understanding about context. For example, people quote from the Gospel of John "....the truth will set you free." However, they overlook the previous statement that Jesus said. John 8:31-32 says, "Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, 'If you abide in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.' " You can see that this is conditional. He's saying in order for the truth to make you free, you need to abide in His Word. Without that abiding, you will still be a slave to sin as a believer. Thus, you don't know the Truth! And it's not a major part of you to set you free. Also, when people make that partial quote, they don't explain freedom from what! Without the previous verse, it doesn't make sense, does it? Here's another tip about context. Always read the whole chapter and identify who is being spoken to. Be like a good journalist: ask yourself 6 questions as you read. The 6 questions are: who, what, where, why, when, and how. This evaluation tests your comprehension of what you read. It takes a lot of practice to do this. But if you persist and practice patience, understanding will come. It will all make sense to you! To all born again Christians, the Scriptures are more simple than they seem at first glance. When you take in the Scriptures as a whole, you can feel the lights coming on in your soul. It's wonderful and glorious! You will feel closer to Jesus! 😊🤗👍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤

When a soldier goes into battle he isn’t given a gun and told to just go fight. Someone has to teach him how to use it first. When someone is saved and believes on Jesus they have their weapon (the Word of God) but how can they go into battle and fight and help others if they don’t know their weapon and the details of it and how it works. Church is for the equipping of the saints, if you just introduce them to Jesus and they except and become saved and then are told to go out into the world and save others they aren’t gonna know how to do that cause it takes some time to get off the milk of the Word and get the meat. Someone has to teach them and help them understand the Word until they are mature enough to understand it on their own.

What’s interesting is that “if you’re saved this church isn’t for you” is a great way for someone to maintain sermons that seem more like a motivational speech with paper thin theology as the moment you are saved you are no longer the focus. It’s also odd because you do not see apostles write to churches and say anything like that. The idea that now that you’re saved you’re “in the army” and it’s not about you anymore and nothing more is owed would be like if for instance you did join the army and then immediately you’re out the door, off in the middle of a combat zone. You haven’t been trained, equipped, or prepared. You don’t have any expectation of how you are to behave against the enemy or among peers. All that was skipped because it’s not about you anymore. It makes no sense.

@@Jonas-gl9keI understand your confusion, but consider this... First, to answer your question about why God doesn't come down and reveal himself and clear things up in an obvious way. Let me start with the scripture "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Luke 5:32). What this scripture means is that Jesus cannot save any person who is self-righteous and trusts in themselves over the word of God, but rather Jesus came to save people who know they are sinners and repent of their sins. Everyone is guilty of sin, so any who are self-righteous are deceiving themselves. The reality is that we all deserve the penalty of hell for our sins. The reason for this is God is completely Holy and cannot forgive the evil of sin without a righteous sacrifice. It is only through Jesus that we are cleansed of our sins. Secondly, we must consider another scripture. "At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike." (Matthew 11:25). This scripture reveals that God only gives His spiritual wisdom to those who seek Him with childlike faith and rely on Him for the truth, rather than on worldly knowledge. Why does God do this? God gave us free-will to either choose between His will or our own will. Without this choice, our love for Him would be forced. If God revealed himself to the world in an obvious way, then our free-will would be forced, rather than a natural turn to the Lord out of repentance and desire to be sanctified, we would turn to the Lord out of the obvious better choice in comparison to the state of the world. That's not free-will. Consider the story of Adam and Eve. They had the choice between the obvious good or the obvious bad. They could either obey God and claim dominion over the entire earth or instead they could disobey God and eat one apple that they were told NOT to eat or they would DIE. They had free-will in that scenario between the obvious good, which was God's will or the obvious bad, which was disobedience to God. They chose the obvious bad as a result of their own self-righteousness. That's why God despises self-righteousness. Those who choose the will of God recognize how meaningless their life is without God and humble themselves to believe in God out of faith, rather than out of sight. It's easy to believe in something you can see, but to believe in God out of faith takes trust. If God was known plainly to everyone, then even those who are self-righteous would believe in God out of sight without needing to humble themselves first. Our faith in God, even when we can't see Him plainly is a true declaration of our love and trust in Him. To clarify the scriptures you quoted, here are some explanations about their true meaning... In Luke 3:6, this simply means that all humanity will see the salvation of God through Jesus dying on the cross, but that does not mean that all humanity will be saved and experience eternal life. Hell is real and Jesus preached more about hell than he did heaven. In 1 Corinthians 15:22, it's through Christ that we have eternal life, but only for those who accept Jesus as Lord and savior over their life. In Romans 14:11, every knee shall bow to the Lord. This doesn't mean that everyone will inherit eternal life, but rather that all will know the sovereignty of God. In Matthew 18:14, it is not the will of God that people go to hell, that is why God sent Jesus to die for our sins. Although, God gave everyone free-will to choose between the will of God or the will of ourselves apart from God. All who reject Christ, on the day of judgement will be condemned to their sins. It's important to note that Christ is God manifested in human form. In Luke 3:5-6, this refers to the salvation that is offered through Jesus Christ as He is the way, the truth, and the life. It is through Him that our rough ways are made smooth. Rough ways refers to sin and the smoothness is God cleansing us of our sin. All who reject Christ will not be cleansed and will still be condemned in their sins. In Luke 16:16, what this means is that before the Gospel was preached or was fulfilled through Jesus, the law of Moses and the messages of prophets were the guide for God's people. As soon as the Gospel was preached and the good news of eternal salvation was made known to God's people, everyone pressed into it. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone will make it to heaven. This is because not everyone will choose to repent of their sins. Hopefully this helped with any misunderstandings you had about scripture. God will not force us to love Him, but rather He wants us to accept His goodness and love willingly. There are always answers to biblical questions, but these answers are only given to those with faith and enough humility to recognize their own sinfulness and complete need for God. It is then through the repentance of our sins that we receive the forgiveness of God. Finally, we put our faith in Christ who died for our sins so that we might receive the righteousness of Christ to enter salvation. Ask God and He will give you the Spirit of Truth, also referred to as the Holy Spirit to guide you through understanding of spiritual wisdom and truth.

It's the teaching that I have a problem - if he was teaching the Bible properly than there is no problem with them focusing on evangelism and bringing in non-believers. The reason why Furtick's focus on his evangelism model is being criticized is because his improper teaching is linked with possible wrong motives. I've seen Furtick's video clip about "Elevation Church is not for you" many times, and I really wish someone would actually address the fallacy of this statement. Jesus invented, named, defined, called, formed The Church, and we need to go back to what He said The Church is for. Actually, she's not "for" anything. She is The Bride of Christ" and "The Body of Christ". The Church's existence is brought about by the death and resurrection of Christ, and enjoys fellowship with God, bringing Him glory as we declare Him to the world. The act of the gathering together of The Church WE have named "church". But if it's a gathering of unbelievers, it's not Church; it's nothing more than a social club. So Elevation is not for believers, and of that Furtick is dead on correct.

People always attack Furtick for some reason. Do I disagree with some things theologically? I’m sure I would but the man is being used to change lives. Even in that video he has a shaved head because he shaved it in solidarity with another pastor who was diagnosed with cancer. I’ve attended elevation and know people who attend there regularly. They are impacting their community for Christ. If you don’t agree with the methods then so what.

@@godly_gamer7778 according to what scripture? Actually according to Ephesians 4 (and pretty much all of Paul's letters) the Church IS about believers and NOT UNbelievers. Christ gave gifts to some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, or teachers for the building up of the body of Christ UNTO service. The purpose is that those who are in Christ are built up in SOUND DOCTRINE, so that we're not tossed about by every wind of doctrine. "As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Ephesians 4:14‭-‬16 Furtick exactly fits what Paul calls "trickery" "craftiness" and "deceitful scheming". I don't doubt that he's doing things that make people feel good and loved. But, what hope is he offering when He doesn't tell people that their sins have separated them from God and they need to be redeemed? Like Colin said, the wrath of God abides on the unbeliever, so Furtick is lying when he says that God's got their back. And another thing, people can be philanthropic for selfish reasons. Please pay attention to that last line: "... causes the growth of the body (of Christ, aka the Church) for the building up of ITSELF..." The Church IS about believers! We NEED to be built up in sound doctrine, be in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit with one another, so that we can go into all the world preaching the Gospel, baptizing believers, and making disciples. When unbelievers come to Christ, THEN the Church is for them as well.

@@godly_gamer7778 "making a difference" and "impacting the community" mean absolutely nothing if he isn't presenting the real gospel of repentance and being born again in Christ Jesus. And he is not, never has, presented the real gospel, only gives pep talks for itching ears - ears that are in need of the real gospel. The man is a con artist, at best.

Means absolutely nothing? That is about the most heartless thing I’ve ever heard. It doesn’t matter if Elevation is helping people who are addicts, feeding the hungry, giving hope to those who are in a dark place. Yea those people don’t matter because their lives have been changed by an organization that is lead by a guy you don’t like. You can have your convictions, you can have your preferred “style” of Ministry. But don’t bash people who have a different style. I don’t know Furtick personally and I’m gonna assume you don’t either. What really means nothing is all your claims about Furtick being a heretic. Why not celebrate what is being done at elevation. Whether is it through Furtick or inspire of him. “Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from goodwill; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking that they are causing me distress in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭NASB

@@godly_gamer7778 what I mean is if he isn't preaching about repentance and true salvation (and he DOESN'T) - thereby misleading souls - then, his works in comparison have accomplished nothing eternal for the Kingdom of God, the most important thing of all.

He is an excellent showman and knows how to use the dramatic! BTW Jesus said to make DISCIPLES of people. How cruel then to get someone born- again and then to abandon the baby to its own devices! It throws them under the bus! How can they defend themselves against the wiles of satan if they are not discipled!

I have not heard Colin say a false statement! I like the way he presents the truth. I have a question? Is the term “Prayer Warrior” biblical? Is there a gift given to some to be Prayer Warriors? Or are we not all called to pray continuously?
