Nice shooting' Tex! Love your drone footage. I have the same problem in Newport Beach, a few hundred miles south. Most of the problem we have is not rising seas, it's plain simple rain water erosion. I've been watching the rain caused erosion all over the western US for some time now, droning quite a bit of it and this is happening everywhere! Even in the US interior. My take is this has always been the case, we just allowed ourselves to believe we had a lot more time, than we really did. See "Operation Lighthouse Rescue" where they have excellent erosion records for the last 300 years when the lighthouse was built. And ask yourself, how long could that island have been there eroding like that? Again, thanks for sharing your excellent drone footage!

It's always nice to see my old neighborhood. I grew up in the Sharp Park and Vallemar areas of Pacifica.

I can still see where I lived 25 years ago! I miss this place daily! I lived right by that pier!

Pacifica is a good name for this place, because that's where it's all going...

That whole area is sand deposits from when the land was sea bottom. It is all close to the San Andreas Fault line, which runs into the sea near there and crosses the Golden Gate, east of the Farrallon Islands. Even if the Army builds concrete sea walls dozens of feet thick, eventually the earthquakes and the ocean will tear them apart and Pacifica will become part of the sea floor once again.

I've been watching these videos for a few years now and they are beautiful and amazing but also I feel for the once homeowners.

That cliff edge just keeps creeping further inland. Thank you for the update.

Technically - this is great work from a camera point of view. Kudos to the makers. I am not a fan of soundtracks, but this one compliments the video nicely - thank you.

Thanks for the update. I got really interested about this since I saw some old videos of it.

They should not be paying for repairs. They might as well shred the money and put in it into the sea. They should be paying for replacement houses in locations that are not at risk of coastal erosion.

Great views of the cliffs and the waves with nice lighting combining the mist and sunlight. Thanks for sharing.

Those black spots on the beaches is where the oil slick happened when a boat collided in the Pacific. The oil was on all the beaches in 1972 I was in high school The ocean was never the same!!!!😭

I had the privilege to live in Pacifica, CA for a year and it is such a great town. With the town being located between the San Andreas fault and the Pacific Ocean it is no surprise there is major geology working against the man made structures. The lower part does not look so bad, down by the pier but as you go up the bluff it is really bad. I lived there in 2000 and homes were falling to the ocean then. I feel for the homeowners but I don't think there is much man can to to combat the Pacific Ocean other than where the low bluffs are. Where I used to live is now in the ocean.

Long term fix: Move everyone out, tear down all buildings, never permit building so close to the coastline, and put in place new building regulations. Problem solved.

I know right....they knew these were gravel cliffs and roughly the speed they erode.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will study long-term fixes to three areas of Pacifica..don't need expensive long term study just move back aways..it's like rebuilding in an area that has flooded numerous times..

Seriously, watch how the palm islands of dubai are constructed then apply said principal just offshore of this coast. Imagine a breakwater protecting this precious coast.

I was wondering about the brick walls to but you know I did the northern coast Camino in 2015 and you know why they didn't have any brick walls and that's the Atlantic in the Bay if Biscay will have to look and see if they have erosion issues,Do you know the thing about the Spaniards they put their cattle on the ridge of the ocean not their homes like several acres are all for their cattle those golden blonde brown cows with the brass bells that make the most beautiful sound and then all the scouts that climb the side of the cliffs and then sheep

Incredible Video, I think they would just have to fill the beach with boulders to slow it down.

Were there once houses on the ocean side of the road.

They ignored that way too long, that shit don't happen overnight.

Servant to Be - While your comment is true, they should not be treated in that fashion, many have lost everything they own when their super rich boss sent their jobs over seas so he could earn more money. There are those who, cannot adapt to living in society and are homeless because of that. Many of my patients were homeless Viet Nam Veterans, after seeing the crap they saw in the jungles of that faraway land, they could not live in society, they were always setting up where there were good fields of fire, even though none of them owned firearms. What little money they got through the VA they spent on booze or some on food. When I was retired because of my Service Connected disabilities I was having to figure out how to stretch $200 to cover my trailer payment park rent, utilities, food for myself and my three cats. It does not work very well. I lost my Nursing license because of my disabilities, so I was able to apply for unemployability, which they gave me. When I got my first check I paid my car off and my trailer. So I only had to worry about the utilities, critter food and feed myself. I was about half a month away from being homeless myself. Who do I blame it on? I blame it on Iraq and their leader. Depending which type of disability you are receiving whether you pay taxes on it or not, some you pay a federal tax and others you pay state tax. Do not be so quick to judge the Homeless, you may end up that way somewhere down the line, by choice or by the machinations of an unscrupulous boss. Rich Californians, have seen a couple homes fall off their stilts. They were intentionally built right on the break of a steep hill. Once the top soils, bushes and trees were removed to build the home it was bound to happen. We had a real gully washer, and the house, that was not tied into the bedrock, fell off the side of the hill. No one was injured, they only lost a few million dollars, the construct company was fined about a half million for not tying the house into the bedrock. That was one expensive pile of trash in the end. The sad thing, the local people warned the new owners that those hills were prone to mudslides and rock falls, they were ignored. //es//A 70y/o Avid Outdoors Lady and a Native Born Oregonian.

Who cleans up all of the junk and structural debris? Does this stuff just wash away in the tide? I saw huge pipes projecting through the cliffs and well below housing slabs, so some sort of public drainage is going on. Between the construction trauma, the surface weight of all the human crap and clutter, and the ongoing vibrations of moving vehicles, what’s the mystery? I can hear Mother Nature ‘‘

From the edge to 100 yards inland that coast is in imminent danger if collapse.

And here through to the rear we have the best diving board in town....! Did I mention the price...?!

Hollywood should make a movie called EROSION.

My neighborhood looks different and they destroyed a cove I used to hang out at, but this is way cool!

I am fascinated and must know if the house with the long gray deck, actually had a pool underneath... it certainly looks like there was a giant cement box under the deck... if it use to be a pool... wow, what a place it must have been... that would be very very interesting to see what the coastline looked like say 30 years ago...

I was wondering the same! It would be great to find some picks from 30 years ago or 1918... There may have not been any house a hundred years ago , but I'd still like to see how much further it was out.

T.K.W. There's an amazing website called the California Coastal Records project, by a guy who's been flying his plane up and down the coast since 1972 taking photos. At least the famous Taco Bell isn't on a cliff ;). I used to live in the Bay Area. Waiting for some of those multimillion dollar homes with the best view of the Golden Gate that I've been in to come down before I die. Those are built right on the cliffs.

I wouldn't even walk my dog along that road. The surface underneath is composed mainly of alluvial silts, clays and gravel. Like building on one of those inflated bounce castles.

When did they start to allow ppl to build so close to the beaches? In the late 40's or 50's?

Even one thousand year is enough for leaving there many generations of humans. That cliffs can help for a long period.

People who have lived in the state of California have no fear it has to hit them in the face before they get the message. When I was visiting my family they had no fear. I was about to go bunkers worrying about my mom counting her money right out in the open after she went to the bank. I mentioned it all she said was you been in the country too long. My sister was the same way.storms don't bother them earthquake doesn't bother them. They do not like the fires.

Ha Ha The P4 is a great second choice, I was looking at a refurb Inspire 1. I have a lot of crap now a Mavic, Spark, Typhoon and a Phantom 3 but that Inspire just looks so freaking cool.

It is a losing battle.

I would not still be there waiting to see if the rest is gonna fall or not! Yeah I'm chicken!! I wouldn't be able to sleep or anything else. So sad!! Peoples life changed....

We have the same issue on the beaches here in Florida. No one should be living on these barrier islands. They are ephemeral and designed to shift, disappear and reappear with the currents. If the government wants to put in some infrastructure such as road, parking concessions and beach features for the public, I would have no problem with that. Now their are fighting to make the beaches private! The incessant repairing and and rebuilding off the government (.)(.)'s needs to stop. Same thing in California - build a half a mile or so from the beach and when it is about beachfront, take it down and relocate it. This is just a colossal mess for the selfishness of a few people.

Those people paid for these homes to be built,now they're having to pay for them to be cleared out & on top of that, they 'll have nothing to sell to help defray the cost. This is why I bought my house inland 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. In a few years I'll probably have some ocean front property for sale. lol

So...... why isn't the stuff being moved out of there? Its all going down.

Mother Nature gives and she takes away.....

When a million dollar home slides into the ocean, is the ocean a more valuable resource? Yep.

Instead of putting boulders only on the coast line why not put breakers out in the ocean to slow down the waves.

I don't understand why building houses on sand dunes was a good idea. They should clear that all out and it needs to become a nature preserve

What led them to believe they could build there... Oh, right... greed. The only perpetual motion machine on Earth, is the Earth (always has been, always will be).
