Watch our contributors' immediate reactions to 2024 Oscar nominations: The shocks, the surprises!

After a slew of wild surprises from the industry-related guild awards that have been bestowed upon us in the last couple of weeks, it should be expected that the 2024 Oscar nominations this Tuesday morning would bring us a few jaw-droppers. As predicted, “Oppenheimer” dominated the nominations with 13, but “Poor Things” did not come far behind with 11. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Barbie” underperformed, missing major categories. Following the announcement, contributors Charlie Bright, Tony Ruiz and Christopher Tsang convened to discuss their immediate reactions to the shocks and surprises. Watch the lively video above.

Thank you for your discussions. Would've loved to see a surprising yet worthy nomination like a Rachel McAdams or The Iron Claw.

As much as I love Scorsese the KOTFM screenplay Miss was not that unexpected. The writers whole argument was that they did not adapt the book as written so if you had issues with the movie, you had issues with adaptation.

Chris and Joyce's vids are so much more fun and insightful than this I'm afraid. Maybe have some vets like Tom O'Neill (miss seeing him) to make it more worthwile.

I still think American Fiction can win Adapted, especially with how CODA turned out as our winner in such a competitive field, the one that was broadly liked amongst the voters ended up winning the category. As for Original, even if The Holdovers wins BAFTA, Talk to Her was the last film to win JUST BAFTA & go on to win the OS category; recent films like The Favourite & Licorice Pizza only won BAFTA & lost the Oscar to the film that won GG. So, unless The Holdovers can pull an upset in BP as Green Book did (which I'm not seeing atm), then I think Anatomy of a Fall can win OS, especially when the Academy usually throws the award to the director who had a hand in writing their script & maybe the only chance Anatomy can win something.

The best picture race is not a done deal. Something I know about The Oscars is that the best picture is usually a heartwarming feel good movie. I just don't know if "Oppenheimer" is that film, because I certainly didn't have my heart warmed feeling seeing it. So eventhough it is very likely it's not a done deal.

time to stop being delusional about oppenheimer losing holdovers didnt get sag ensemble neither did poor things which is a red flag
