The best piece of advice I have ever received is from my best friend who always takes good care of my career and future. She always advised me how to be motivated and confident while working or studying. However, she told me stories about the past life challenges that she faced in her teenage, and she became a self-motivated and more resilient woman. Since then, I always kept her advice in my mind precise and concise while choosing my career. For instance, I made the right decision whether to apply for a job or to apply for a master's degree at the university. As a result, I have selected one of the best and most prestigious universities in the world. In addition, my life is going smoothly by being motivated and confident. In contrast, sometimes I need to face some difficult situations while making the most important decisions in the future as well. In my view, I believe that this advice will help me to fix my all problems without any hesitations and fear.

My response to new prompt: To speak about the best piece of advice I received, I think about someting my grandfather tells me. He says it is important to focus on the things that we controls. For example, in my career, I can no always controls my success. If I have a bad boss, then I cannot success. If I focus on this and need this to make me happy in my life, I won’t be happy. It is better to focus on things like my hobby. For example, I like playing basketball. I can train in basketball and get better skills. I can play with friends and we can have fun together. I can play a lot or not play a lot. It is mine control. Another example is family. I don’t have childrens or wife now. But in future, I can focus on being a good husband and a good father. This will make me feel success.

This essay looks great but quite long. It took you more than 6 minutes to write it in this video, which is longer than the given time in the test. How do you recommend adapting it to our given time? Maybe remove the examples? Or having less arguments? What do you think?

Good questions! The 2 most effective ways to save time are: 1. Don't use an introduction like, "In this essay, I will discuss...". Rather, start by answering the prompt directly. In this case, you are asked for your opinion so start by stating your opinion clearly. 2. Don't use a conclusion. A concluding sentence or paragraph isn't necessary. In general, in your response you should address each part of the prompt as this will help you get more points. In this case, there are 3 things you are asked to do: 1. Which do you believe is more beneficial for the environment (public transportation or private vehicles) and why? 2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of public transportation 3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of private vehicles Thus, It makes sense to make your response 3 paragraphs, one paragraph for each thing. This is what I did. However, you could have just 2 paragraphs because the first paragraph will be an advantage for one of the modes of transportation. However, 3 paragraphs would be stronger.

@@ArnoLearning the most challenges I think for DET are time limited and spell familiar(typing speed), no time to think, no time to typing correct words.

@@dyinglee7074 Definitely. This is why I joke that the Duolingo English Test isn't just a test of your English. It also tests your typing speed! I recommend to many students to become faster typers because this will help you a lot on the DET.

It depends on the prompt you are given but in general an introduction like, "In this essay, I'm going to discuss..." is not a strong way to begin.
