My two young sons and I rescued a baby chipmunk the same way. It was floating in the middle of a giant reservior in the dead of winter and seemed just minutes from death. I scooped it up with my hat, put it on the bow of the boat to warm in the sun, took it home, fed it crushed pecans, and raised it to about half grown in a big aquarium. Then I turned it loose in the yard, where we would catch glimpes of it living its life for several years.

Pigs are excellent swimmers that can swim across rivers and streams in search of food, habitat, or safety. Although some myths persist that pigs can't swim, they are actually quite good at it! Pigs are natural swimmers by birth, much like dogs and other animals can swim naturally if thrown into the water.

Heading north out of Kailua, that pig was never gonna make it to Maui. My cousin fights the wild boars of the Big Island, so I am of mixed feelings on this one. Obviously "the universe" sent the little one out into the wild blue yonder and by sheer chance(also the universe) humans were there to save the day. I think it's the saving part that is the take away- but I would have called animal control before releasing her. They are a dangerous invasive species that wreaks havoc on the native flora and fauna.
