Sutcliffe, Boycott, Hutton, Root, Rhodes, Johnny Bairstow (WKT), Illingworth, Hirst, Verity, Trueman, Gough. That's a Yorkshire and England 11 which would be a match for any team, hard to know really how great Hirst was, but there is probably a lack of standout third seamer behind Trueman and Gough.

There were times when a Yorkshire team would have beaten the England team. Obviously I'm not saying that just because I'm a tyke......Also there were many times Yorkshire players did not get picked for England because they were fromYorkshire. In the past, selectors often picked players from Yorkshire when there was no way to avoid it. Fortunately for english cricket times seems to have changed.

If he picked himself at one you would probably critised him for rating himself above Sutcliffe. Batting 2 does not save you from pace. Generally the first over is not the quickest from an opening bowler.

@@SuperFerdie1965 If you know your history, when Boycott went into exile no one had heard of Holding or Thompson and it looked as if Lillee was finished due to a spinal injury. I agree that he was not the most endearing or exciting cricketer but critism should reflect reality.

Boycott said clearly that he was putting Hutton at 3 because he was the best technician and as Geoff's whole method and quality was about technique he's telling you that Hutton was better than himself. He also clearly said that he wasn't better than Hutton. I think you should listen before commenting. I know Boycott has a reputation for his ego but it's not unreasonable to select a Yorkshire man who scored more runs for England than any other Yorkshireman and on retirement scored far more test runs than any other Englishman.
