@birtawillnews4908 First of all you can’t compare the price of a watch where only one was produced and was sold at an auction, The only reason it sold for $31 mil was because two idiots with bottomless pockets wanted it! So there was a bidding war, Auction prices do not usually reflect an items actual value! If that watch was to go to auction again it may not even sell for $15 mil if there is only one person interested!

The lady said a Rolex will last you 20 years if you take care of it! Fudge, I have G-Shocks that have been snorkelling, up mountains, in rainforests, and they are working fine 20 years of wear and use. For a watch of Rolex prices, I would want to be buried in it at 120, exhumed 100 years later, and after a little winding, the Rolex is working again. 20 years my arse!

My Rolex is going strong for 31 years. My dad got it before I was even born in 1992 when this model came out. Now in 2023 he’s given it to me as sort of a rite of passage and it’s established itself as a precious family heirloom. 31 years hardly ever been serviced other than adding/removing links and the Authorised Service Center still says that the movement is still very good.

People don't understand inflation, interest rates, maintenance/upkeep costs, especially, if you're someone that likes to move around, owning doesn't always make sense especially if it's a mortgage. Plus, people blindly buy not understand entry and exit points. Sometimes it's just not worth the time and money. The same commitment one may make to a mortgage including the deposit, others can put that money to better use.

My grand father used to always tell me "kicking open a door that is already open." Sure he might not have been all there but he sure did have a nice watch collection.

Have the COSC requirements changed recently? Nico claimed that for COSC certification the parameters are +/- 2 sec day. They are in fact far less strict. "To be COSC Certified, a timepiece needs to be accurate to -4 to +6 seconds a day. " According to Mr Google.

Well there’s actually one thing wrong that Nico says : all the other watch brands use 316L stainless steel when not using precious metals. BUT some brands actually have 904L steel like Milus or Ball. That said, Rolex was the first brand to use that type of alloy.

It should also be noted that 904L isn't necessarily ''better'' than 316L, it has better corrosion resistance and can be made to shine brighter than 316L at the cost of being a slightly softer steel.

Omega experimented with 904l in the 1970s Rolex started using 904l in 1985. But yeah, Rolex is first at everything, and everyone copies Rolex.

And 904L is one of the standard SAE Steel grade (as 316L is), let's not get the impression that it was invented by Rolex. And how Nico said that it sounds a bit like that. All that being said, Rolex making all the metals for cases is really something unique.

No watch is waterproof they are resistant to water but never water proof (this is probably the only time I'll ever be able to correct nico)😂

Cosc is from -4 to 6 per day. The superlative chronometer which is what Rolex does when testing a watch is from -2 to +2, I think

Nico is the reason I got into watches. I decided to buy a g shock gm-2100b-4aer (the red dial one). I've had it since November and believe the the website pictures don't do it justice. It's beautiful in person

A point on steels - the 904L has been around for a while and was used in aerospace and other industries, though Rolex was the first to start using this steel in their watches in the mid 80s. It's not like they had an alchemist tinker away in a dimly lit dungeon and came up with a unique new steel - they do have a goddamn foundry, though, and produce all their shit in-house . I've seen a lot of crap online where people think they actually invented the steel or something, so just wanted to clarify.

There are other watch brands using 904L steel too (Girard Perregaux, Horage, Ball to name a few) although they are not forging themselves. Great Channel!!

It depends. Except for the occasional issues, producing over a million watches every year and keeping that standard high is actually a sign of very, very high QC.

My Seikos at -6 seconds a day for $200 on sale. Granted I don't have the flexing rights of having a Rolex but no one cares or notices the difference anyways. Don't get me wrong I'd love a Rolex as I just enjoy watches and luxurious stuff but they aren't really that special or innovative other than brand prestige.
