I find it interesting how much of this stuff is covered (by a degree of separation conceptually) by 2 Minute papers, from temporal coherence (what they call their video module), the combining multiple image sources to build out a vector space and a few other things

  • @Tyler_Titus

True, but why not just add a minimal amount to the total camera count (maybe 1 or 2) and not have to interpolate blank space in the relevant zone at all? Skip the 2 minute paper altogether??? No compute usage overhead to interpolate important data sounds like a win to me. The "blind spots" would still need processed but I would think the overhead would be relatively minimal in comparison would it not? I guess cameras cost too much..

A few of the questioners seemed confused on how the compute capability of Dojo would be crambed down into an individual Tesla vehicle. That's not how it works. The massive computation is to intially generate and train the algorithms. Once those algorithms are ready to go, it won't take much computation at all to actually run them. . Think of a hammer for pounding in nails. Do you or I have to source our own wood and steel to forge the components out of? No, we simply go to the hardware store and buy one pre-made (vehicle-ready algorithm). But, someone _did_ have to source, process, and produce that hammer for us (Dojo simulation training algorithms).

When Google bought Boston Dynamics, I was sure that they planned to use BD robots in the context of Google/Deep Mind AI work. On the surface, that would make perfect sense -- robots as the interface to the real world. After all, the most important things about the world are not written anywhere, and you cannot learn them by scraping web pages! (Just like with learning to drive a car.) But apparently Google could never figure out what to do with the Boston Dynamics' know-how, and it was too expensive to keep them. So they went on to sell them to Softbank, and SoftBank made a good penny by reselling them to Hyundai.

So many unanswered questions. 1. What about privacy? It's taking photos of everyone and tracking their movements, what safeguards are in place against hacks/ government intrusion? Do you store this data or is it deleted? 2. What about autonomy? If you want to drive your car on an unpaved road the AI won't know what to do. Especially offroad.

Sure there are privacy concernes. But i also see the potential. Instead of google Streetviewcars. You just tell your fleet to take a snapshot of the world and they start consuming the neighbourhood. and one day later you have a new imageset totaly with orientation data, gos location and intelligent labels. I think tesla could be the next google streetview. insane!😎 But here in germany you were allowed to tell google that your house has to be pixelated and in the end streetview was dead here.

Ava Rosa, but showing the Auto Pilot brain trust shows the huge amount of “what if’s” are involved in “every day” driving. These engineers are doing all they can to anticipate ALL possible situations… it’s a huge job. I don’t blame Elon for being hesitant to make all his very hard and expensive work “open source.” Dave in Phoenix Arizona USA
