The “patina” on bronze is not from corrosion; it’s the oxidization of the copper in the alloy. If copper is resistant to corrosion why would you call it “corrosive”?

Rado has a nice Bronze Diver for about $2,800 USD.I own one for over 18 months its patina nicely. To me its perfectly priced. Bronze is a niche watch in a collection don't over spend.

Nische watch? Out of my 3 dream watches, two of them are bronze ;) Christopher Ward C60 Bronze Trident 40mm & Tudor Black Bay 58 Bronze So it will be a warm-looking little collection 😂

My Baltic is getting great patina after only a 1 week of wearing it. Has not been in the pool or ocean yet, just outside in florida. Looks great and I like that baltic alloy will not get any green splotches.

I love the look of Bronze watches. Just like you said, the warmth of gold but without the price tag and a bit less flashy than gold too which is plus as well. Recently ordered my first bronze watch to see if I'll like it in practice too. Just a bit worried about the patina going overboard and it looking a bit too down in the dumps. But I guess I'll just have to clean it often enough :D

A bronze case looks good and the fact that it gets a patina is also a good thing. But I find that I am limited by the bracelet, because the metal of the bracelet should also be bronze, otherwise it is not harmonious. And since bronze hardware not always available, especially for pull-through straps, I had to use some with black hardware because at least they match the black dial.

Memphis Belle has fantastic bronze watches!

I thought that bronze was corrosion resistant and that is the reason it was used in marine contraction, propellers etc. The patina is due to superficial oxidation but the rest of the structure was not damaged. Or am i misunderstanding things? Teach us please.

You are correct. But, because here rely the big BUT. As much as some rusty gunky green oxidation and harsh brown patina is not much of an aesthetic issue on a boat propeller that stays in deep water and nobody will see /touch it. Such oxidation is visible and will increase in time while on your wrist, so not really nice, not to mention it will stain your skin, closes and worst might create rash on your skin. There is a reason tgat such material was NOT used in the watch industry before late 80s, when it started to be used only for fashion/hype requirements...

If I wear a bronze watch and constantly swim with it in the ocean and lakes pretty much daily should I be worried because it's bronze? Will it turn my skin green since I'll be in the water a lot?

It is more the process of being always in an humide environnement. If you swim then dry it, it will not affect the bronze except salty water, just rince it. Between the watch and the skin, if it is humide and salty for an extended period of time, depending of the alliage it may give a green tint to your skin.

So if the metal is corrosive does that mean the metal will fall apart over time?

No, it is a superficial effect. It is quite corrosion resistant and is even used in marine environments for its overall stability.

I've never understood what's the big deal with bronze. It's softer than steel, it corrodes, and it's substantially heavier. What's the point? Just for the "patina" effect? Seriously i don't see where's the fun [if any] in that. SS and titanium are far better alternatives, IMO.

It is “alive” and ages with you. Look up “Wabi Sabi”. Some people are into that and some are not. It is a matter of taste.

it's a niche in the watch community, it's usually for people that already have a few watches in stainless steel and titanium. I have a bronze watch but I would not recommend if it's for your one and only watch.

Just don't get it myself - they look skanky and turn your wrist green...awful material for a watch imho. But to each their own 👍🏻

I wear a bronze watch right now and normally, it does not turn your wrist green. I tried to accelerate the patina with boiled eggs and I did it extensively, so the oxidation layer was really preeminent. I wiped the excess oxidation with a tissue and then I started wearing the watch and it still didn't turn my wrist green or dark. In fact, the cuffs are constantly cleaning the bronze case edges and it looks really warm and nice.
