David Wells was a bulldog. A good old fashioned ballplayer. I thank him for the time he spent in Toronto giving us all he did winning a World Series and later in his career winning 20 games. He was at .600 winning % for his career and even better in the postseason. A winner and probably at times underappreciated.

*Later that same year in September, David Wells took a perfect game into the 7th inning against the Oakland Athletics. If I remember correctly, it was broken up by one of the Giambi brothers with one or two outs, and it ended up as a complete game, two hit shutout... or Oakland might've scored one run. Either way, it was another dominating performance by Wells that season, who was 18-4 in 1998, and 4-0 in the postseason.* *As far as I know, no other pitcher in MLB history has thrown a perfect game and also taken a second perfect game attempt into the 7th inning in the same season as Wells did in 1998. Mark Buehrle and Roy Halladay both have a perfect game and a no hitter, but I'm pretty sure neither of them were in the same season, and I believe they both walked or hit a batter in the 5th inning in their no hitters.*

Both Wells and Don Larsen graduated from Point Loma High School in San Diego Ca. The only two at that time to throw a perfect game in Yankee Stadium.
