I have a lot of really great and supportive regular viewers on my channel that understand what these things are about and have the intelligence to look after their own well being and personal responsibility. For some reason though, this particular vid seems to bring out every whining safety sissy crybaby and environmental zealot who can't be bothered to read the description or info here but rush to post ignorant and foolish comments. It's got to be really old so from now on, comments which are just put up for the sake of having a sook about something already explained or just to grandstand will be deleted. People with genuine interest are most welcome to post questions on this or any of my other vids and I will do my best to answer them and help people build the different styles of burners I have made as I always have tried to do.

For some reason KZread comments seem to be some of the most hateful and argumentative on the internet. +Andy Elkins Disclaimer: I've only just watched this video so I may be wrong. At around 5:55 he opens a valve which delivers oil (gravity fed) through a PVC pipe connected to a 1/4" copper pipe into the burner.

geez louise, all the safety comments are absolutely ridiculous. those crying about lack of them, how bout this, the tools needed to make this stuff come with instructions and warnings.They are sticker-ed and labeled all over the place. if you dumb enough to burn a hole in your shoe and have a ball of molten steel burn the crap out of your foot, then there's your warning. they don't need to be gone over as a preemptive strike to save some idiot from hurting himself. Damn, it goes without saying, this is dangerous stuff. don't waste my time with all that BS. I hate it when I watch a video and some ass that is in love with the sound of his own voices goes on and on about PPE like he's General freaking electric himself. Damn, let them man make his show and it not be about the obvious and you go back to paying your union dues.

Well said! You would think this vid was about building a Nuke reactor in your own back yard the way some saftey sissys go on. I'm pretty much at the point of just removing the stupid safety comments From now on. They are not helpful and if some moron needs to be told to wear gloves or other obvious things then they have no business even looking at these vids with a thought of building, let alone using one themselves. The saftey zealot warnings are aimed at people that would never think to get their hands dirty making something themselves so therefore are pointless anyway. If they are here for entertainment value only, then again they are pointless. The people that do things themselves are here to learn things beyond puting on gloves or eye protection. They have already well and truly passed that level.

That is some crazy flames poring out of that thing. Nice job!

Yesterday KZread recommends a video on a homemade sandblaster. Needed it. Made it. Today this. Needing it. Making it. All of the sudden KZread cares about what I need. My heart is touched. And I love this thing. Can't wait to find a use for the heat I can make with all my old motor oil.

For melting aluminum it should be great! The reducing oily flame should help prevent the oxidation of the aluminum into aluminum oxide and give more pure aluminum

Made one like this from an old air compressor tank and blower off of an old kids bouncy castle, Worked great to melt old water pumps, lawnmower engines etc. Did not smoke either. I burned used motor oil.

Got inspired and built one from a 4.5 kg gas bottle, works a treat once I got it going. had issues getting it to get hot but watching this I see I need a fair bit of fuel/rag to start then plenty of oil and whooee much fun to be had.

The start up is what most people have problems with. many get a good fire going then have a freak out and then kill it just when the thing starts getting up to speed. once you get a feel for them though it's very easy. The key to them is heat and plenty of it.

Thanks mate. Have a look at my other visd. I use the same types of burner to heat water in a converted gas heater and many other things along those same lines.

A while back I bought a used wood boiler furnace . I set it up to heat a large concrete slab with pex tubing . I've thought many times about trying to retrofit it with something like what you have . With the kind of heat produced in your vid it would be a great savings to my heating bill in the winter time . Your video is great inspiration !

Thanks for the kind words. I cut a LOT of wood for my elderly father to use in his wood burning heater and know how much work that is. I'd so love to convert it to oil for him. So much less work with more than adequate heat. If you used something like the fuel control I have in one of my other vids and developed some saftey systems like under/ over temp or flame sensors, these could be made every bit as safe and reliable as commercial units. I'm working with some small electronic boards from fleabay to create some controls for this very purpose.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MAN! Such a great, informative and really educational channel that deals with real world, usable information. I've enjoyed all of the videos I've watched and can't wait to fabricate my own oil burner now. Keep them vids coming, please... BTW, love your sense of humor also. I wish I was your neighbor, but I'd come over with a case of beer and to help you as your assistant, not to complain!

I just love all your videos oil burner.........I live in northern Canada and I still play with all the designs that you've made/built and its -30 degrees celcius here atm.............I don't know why ppl have trouble firing up their burners......I always seems to be able to fire mine up..................I recently built a foundry and I used ur simple spray burner with just a Cpl fittings and damn I tell ya......that thing gets hot.............I was able to melt steel in my furnace.....and ive melted down about 300 pounds of copper so far and about 600 pounds of aluminum...................my last run I used a 1/2 inch thick steel crucible using an 8 inch diameter pipe..................and I did not notice soon enough that I clearly melted one whole side of it.........................I really really enjoy seeing all ur videos.............ive watched every one of them at least 20 times each......................thanks for all the videos and your safety talks are awesome................keep'em coming oil burner.............look forward to more insane and crazy ideas you come up with

Wow! Thanks very much for your kind words. I'm stoked to hear you have been able to put the things to good use. Some people seem to get them lit first time out and some have trouble. It did take me a while to get the knack of it but once you learn what to look for it's second nature. Just have to keep in mind they have to be HOT and the rest takes care of itself. What do you do with all the aluminium? Do you cast it or sell it for scrap? I have melted things inadvertently as well. I get a lot of questions about is it hot enough to do this or that. Problem is not will it melt it, the problem is don't take your eye off it or you'll melt every damn thing! Thanks again for the feedback. It's hearing from people like yourself that make this rewarding to go on with. I really appreciate hearing what you have done with these.

where I live it is way up northern Canada and only way to get out of town is by flying..............so I melt all my own metals for casting and making parts for anything from a kids toy to heavy machinery............as it is sometime impossible to get parts and supplies to my location............we don't get regular flights up here everyday sometimes only once or twice a week so I have no choice but to build all my own stuff...........even if I order stuff the cost of the freight is sometimes way more than the part itself so it really saves me a lot of time and money by building and making my own things....................sometimes I do sell my aluminum, copper, brass, cast iron ingots to a scrap yard but I have to wait until end of January once the winter roads are made and open....................I have a thermometer and when I tried to measure the temperature of my foundry it goes overlimit and the thermometer is rated up to 4200 degrees farenheit ...............veg oil is awesome ........keep making your videos and I will keep watching and enjoying them..........thank you very much for a very interesting topic....................last night I made a burner with propane tank and the flames were shooting out of it like about 15 ft of pure madness...lol........................thanks for all your awesome and cool videos oil burner

I'd be interested to hear more about your needs for disposal. How much you need to get rid of over what time frame? I was thinking of building a mega burner but saw no practical use. This could be the Justification I need! :0)

***** Why ask at all? Is is such a terrible thing to allow me to take responsibility for my own well being and make my own choices? Do I come across as such an idiot or so inexperienced as you don't think I know what I'm doing and the inherent dangers? I don't tell other people not to wear whatever they want, why do the safety whingers all feel the need to force their ways on me? I really wonder how many people that crap on about what I'm doing without gloves etc have actually used this sort of thing themselves and have any experience in what they are talking about. It's pretty clear that most haven't but are merely repeating what they heard some expert say so as to look knowledgeable and take the moral High ground. Anyway, check out my latest Vids. ***** I believe that 99% of the people that whine about safety do it in fact because of purely selfish reasons in that they want to be seen to be knowlegeable when they in fact know nothing about what they are seeing or have any idea of the real risks through complete lack of experience. Getting a burnt finger isn't going to Kill me and it's nothing worse than hitting onself on the thumb with a hammer. I think many of the safety zealots are idiots because they go on about things which aren't a risk at all, Like wearing a mask which I always do, not for safety but because of self presevation. They also go on about bleedingly obvious things That anyone could clearly see and never mention things which a person may miss like I tried to do with my Veg oil danger Vid. So far ALL the real dangers I have Identified in doing these Vids and using these burners are hidden things No one has yet warned me about which makes all the safety comments basicaly useless. Glad you like the Vids and I'll endeavour to keep doing them whilever people are interested and entertained by them. :0)

So many times it's patently clear these people are incapeable of any hands on fabrication themselves and almost without exception, never have anything they have done themselves on their account. Not everyone has the facilitys to do things but as you say if you don't have the knowledge or experience, just shut up and watch or go somewhere else. Don't try and make yourself out to be knowledgeable in something you are not.

Stanlee O'Tool I know exactly what you mean! I have seen so many products and machines that I didn't even know existed because they aren't used in my part of the world. And that's commercial things, let alone what people come up with and make themselves. Then there is the thing of if you have a problem or want to fix something, there are usualy quite a few vids on how to do it. There is a lot of crap on here but it's outweighed by the tons of useful and entertaining material!

the only thing that i worry about is the kid that watches and says well doing this or that seems to be just fine practice. so no its not just effecting you. i dont typically tell anything about safety. but youtube reaches so many people. you are bound to cause someone harm other than yourself i seldom where gloves.... but i know what im doing and dont put out videos just a thought

There will always be those that want to throw their safety warnings around. If you are to the point where you can actually cut with a torch then I am sure that you have at least looked at the book that came with it. Or perhaps noticed all of the leather shit hanging on the peg hooks next to the equipment at the store. Give the guy a break, he took the time to make a video and share some knowledge with the rest of us. I have used a plasma torch without all of the necessary leather, if it’s cold I wear the jacket if it is 110 I opt for just the gloves. What he does is his business. Calling someone names because they took time to make a video for others? 9 seconds into the video you can see he is not wearing gloves. If his safety bothers you that much then you should hit your back arrow at around 9 seconds. That way the conversation will actually remain about the project. For one I say Thanks for the video!

As i sat barefoot on concrete wearing only damp swimtrunks and a cutoff t-shirt, I felt a little bit of a zap while MIG welding a kickstand on my MX bike, so no, not completely safe. I simply took my spare hand off the footpeg and used both hands to hold the torch, and finished the job ;)

Thanks. In practice it was a poor air blower. Was from a car. Some are good, this one was not. Normally I use Jumping castle blowers. Fairly easy to get on Fleabay and the like and cheap. See my many later vids.

What's with all the Nanny comments???. In the First World War 14 year olds would lie about their age so they could fight, now people are scared of a bit of DIY!. I think your next vid should be blind folded chainsaw juggling :-)

It's amazing how western society has and is faster becoming a bunch of pathetic wimps scared of their own shadow or breaking a fingernail. That long cool droning sound the fire made nearly made me fall asleep on the freeway. It freaked me the fuck out. I regained consciousness and realized I had driven 5 miles at 70mph without any memory of it.

I realize that some people like to act tough, but welding with no gloves and tacking before you used a mask is just plain idiotic. Ill plasma cut with just glasses, screw the tint, but welding without a mask or gloves is just idiotic. Please add an annotation or something so some moron doesnt hurt themselves because they saw you get away with this.

How about an annotation that says " If you are a candy arse saftey sissy, leave DIY stuff like this to your husband and you confine yourself to knitting and scrapbooking.... only with saftey scissors and rubber kniting needles". OR, how about " This is a DIY channel not a kindergarten. If you need to learn basic, fundamental saftey issues to prevent you hurting yourself, please visit the appropriate channels aimed at your level of incompetence. Leigh Davis While to a normal person that is a totally logical suggestion, the problem is a moron would either not read or fail to take any notice of a warning anyway. It may however appease the semi idiot safety zealots so would be worthwhile from that POV ! As someone commented, All the equipment comes with safety warnings in the handbook and stickers everywhere so if the idiots have taken no notice of this already, why would they take notice of anything I did and WTF do people think it's my job to play mother? If idiots Hurt themselves, GOOD! Not like they are an endangered species, there is no problem at all if a few want to cull themselves.

Oil Burner I dont care how you word it.. Either of the options you gave would still work, but why not just "remember to always follow all safety instructions, I am not responsible if you get hurt repeating this process." Simple, respectful, and absolves you of a potential frivolous lawsuit because guess what? We live in a country that people like to try and sue everyone and blame everyone else for their carelessness. Why not take a simple step to avoid any hassle from the morons and make all the people telling you, you should do it shut up instead of turning this thread into a giant argument?

I am a wood worker and love making things with my own two hands, so when I see others doing the same with other mediums, I enjoy just watching and learning even if I will never use the knowledge. +William Weaver I can relate exactly. I am hopeless with wood but I watch Vids on it all the time particularly people turning huge slabs into bowls and the like. When you put Vids up here you certainly get a lot of arseholes making stupid comments but then you get comments like yours and other people who use the ideas and benefit from them and it all becomes worthwhile and rewarding. I just have fun with the idiots now and appreciate the kind words people are good enough to say. Thanks for your support, it is greatly appreciated.

Kamil x I think it sounds like a Steam Locomotive working hard up an incline.

Any information on how long a 200 litre barrel would last with this? The heating potential of this little thing is pretty big.

Sorry, I thought you meant the drum itself. I have vids where the drum is a burner and get asked how long it will last before burning away. As for oil consumption, it depends entirely on how much heat you want to get out of it. If you ran the thing at 300Kw for metal melting you'd get about 7 hours out of a drum full. If you ran it at 30Kw for home heating, you'd get 10 Days heating for 6 hours a day. If you ran it at 10Kw for water heating, you'd probably have hot showers for a month. All depends how you use them and how much heat you are pulling out of them.

I like the pulsing noise better than I like the steady flame sound. Great burner. I loved the design of it

+TheFF47 Nor do I have to explain what is already in the description that people can read themselves nor answer every question already covered at least 50 times before. Sorry if me not doing what people are too lazy to do for themselves offends anyone. I try to answer the intelligent questions that are not covered for those genuinely interested. Unfortunately I don't have time to keep going going over the same old things for those that are not.

+utoobube it really spoils the whole point of putting vids up to show people ideas when all so many do is look for irrelevant shit to bitch and whine about to elevate their own non existent status and empty lives. Not even 1% of the whining comments I get are from people who have ANY vids up of something they did. I'm not bothering to respond any more other than to just delete the idiotic comments as they appear.

I'm a fire bug don't burn stuff down but love bond fires and stuff and that is a great way to deal with oil waist and can be used as a melter as well a two in one that is awsome

You would definately get higher quality welds if you would put the effort into grinding all the paint and whatnot off of the perimeter of your welds before welding the pipes in.

homerun443 Clearly you are a practical man that has a pair and not a whining safety Sissy. Most of the complaints are because I don't wear gloves when I'm welding. There are so many people that get upset when you don't live your life the way they want you to or do what they want not make your own decisions.

I try to show these as a heat source rather than cover every application. People have used these for grain dryers Chook shed and greenhouse heaters which I would have never thought or or have access to anyway. Bit like an industrial engine. You get the motor and put it on a lawn mower or a rice huller or a cement mixer or brick conveyor... whatever your purpose. For some reason it seems many people can't understand that and have to keep asking " What's it for?" I guess if you can't figure out what you can do with it, you didn't have a use for it an the first place. What is your intended application?
