Just replaced the items in this video. Seemed to do the trick, no more noise. I used the small washer, think it is ok. Will check in a week to make sure I do not need to change out for thicker washer. That seemed to be my only concern if I got that correct or not. It had the thicker washer on old part when I took it off.

Why new pulley set is DIFFERENT FROM OLD ONE PLEASE

Great video, thanks. Two questions. Why does the kit include the big pulley wheel? Is there any part of the old pulley wheel which wears out? Secondly, I replaced this bearing 8 years ago using one washer curing the problem nicely. After an additional 8 years I am again having the original issue. Is it possible to add the washer I did not use last time to perhaps cure the problem again? If the bearing has worn a little and needs a little more pressure, adding a washer is just a little cheaper than buying the whole kit again.

Hi, I have a Maytag top loader washer, Model # MAV3855AWW . Very first start of agitation, it would make a grinding noise. It went away after 10 seconds. Major problem is when the washer starts to spin, the tub spins, but the agitator still works as if it still in the washing mode. The tub does not spin as fast as it should. Thank you for any information you have.

***** It sounds like you may have a problem with the brake or with the drive pulley thrust bearing.

How do you diagnose that this part is a problem? I just replaced the motor on my Maytag a week ago because the original motor seized. Could barely turn it by hand. Was smelling what smelled like burnt candles for a couple of weeks but our Maytag Performa Model Number PAV2300 seemed to be running fine. Now after a week with the washing machine running like New a odor and smoke is coming out of the new replacement motor that it shuts the washer machine down. At my witts end at this point. Don’t just want to throw parts at this 16 year old machine. Any ideas as to what is going on? I should mention the machine while running is doing what it should be doing but my guess is something is causing it to make the motor overheat and there are no funny noises coming from anywhere. I am stumped. I take the belt off which I replaced with a new one at the same time I replaced the motor. Pump pulley turns freely back and forth. New motor pulls turns freely back and forth. Transmission pulls turns clockwise freely but not counter clockwise but does turn my hand counter clockwise making me think maybe this is putting stress on the motor. I am about to give up and purchase a new washer soon if I come up empty here. Any and all help is appreciated.

Today I did this replacement - but it didn't fix the problem. My washing machine will spin but it won't agitate. It has occasional spasms, but no consistent movement. I removed the base agitator and the splines looked okay, so I put the machine on a wash cycle without the agitator. The centre metal post isn't moving. Please, can you tell me what's wrong?

You may have a problem with the transmission, which is the component that provides the agitation or you may just have a problem with the drive belt or pulleys. If you are able to tilt the washer back and inspect the drive belt and pulleys from the bottom, you should be able to isolate the problem. Remove the drive belt and inspect for excessive wear. Check the motor and transmission pulleys for slippage. Turn the transmission pulley by hand in a clockwise direction as viewed from the bottom. This should engage and easily rotate the input shaft to the transmission. If the pulley does not rotate freely or if the agitator shaft does not oscillate continually while turning the pulley then the transmission is most likely defective and should be replaced.

I am the same, did this replacement, but the racket noise that is coming from my washing machine continues. It agitates and spins, just extremely noisy. You can feel the vibrations in the floor, but the machines does not walk or anything similar.

I have a Maytag Performa with this setup. The machine fills and washes fine but the tub will not spin. I verified this by marking the inner tub and noticed it stayed in the same place. The clothes come out soaking wet. These videos show how to replace the pulley but do not state the symptoms. I notice there is a ramp in the pulley that corresponds with small part under the E-clip. Does the ramp release a tub brake when the big pulley is turned in the proper direction?

I have a maytag mav208dww that isn't spinning up to top speed. I replaced the thrust bearing, but I couldn't get the reference arrow to fall between the marks with either of the washers ( and when I ran a spin, it wouldn't get up to speed still). Also noticed the agitator will randomly speed up and slow down durning the spin. Any suggestions??

When checking under your model number for the symptom “noisy” the top parts customers have ordered to correct that issue beside the belt is drain pump, snubber ring, brake rotor or stator. Here is a link to our site for your model symptoms to read our customers issues to see if they might match up with yours. If not, I would suggest contacting the manufacture for trouble shooting. www.partselect.com/AdvancedModelSymptoms.aspx?ModelNum=MAV208DAWW&mfgModelNum=&fkMfgID=1&ModelMasterID=6379&PID=43

I have a Hoover HAV4200AWW I replaced the Transmission Pulley & Bearing with the kit. It still will not spin. It was very hard to get the E clip back on, and the white plastic cam that fits in the transmission pulley would move with the shaft. Something else is wrong. If you try to turn the drum by hand, it is very hard to move. I checked between the drum, and tub, but found nothing that would prevent it moving. What would cause the brake not to release?

  • @partselect

    @partselect

    2 жыл бұрын

if the cam is position right you should be able to turn the main pulley by hand with the belt off and the machine unplugged one way and the machine will agitate. then rotate the pulley the other way which will rotate the cam and release the brake and the tub should turn freely. Sounds as if the brake is not releasing properly

Is the belt slipping on the drive pulley? If so, check the motor glide and tension spring first. You should be able to rotate the drive pulley by hand in one direction and the agitator will oscillate and in the other direction, the inner tub should rotate. If not, check the thrust bearing and adjustment of the pulley before suspecting anything else.

I have a Maytag PAV5158AWW and the symptom was not spinning or agitating - but it did drain water. No noise noticed. I replaced this (thrust bearing and motor pulley) and it didn't fix it. Any other thoughts? One thing, re: the alignment and pulley adjustment at the end, is that when I turn it by hand the arrow JUST makes it to the pair of reference points. That's without using any washers; just the 'E' clip. Am I right that if I used the thin washer that it would prevent it from even going that far, so I should leave them both off? And even if it isn't quite getting far enough, I imagine that it would still turn some when I run it? Any other thoughts?

Does the inner basket turn when you rotate the drive pulley by hand in the counter clockwise direction? Does the agitator oscillate when you turn the pulley clockwise?

When you turn the pulley counter clockwise you should meet some resistance as the cam contacts the pulley and forces the brake spring to compress. This action releases the brake and will allow the basket and transmission to turn. Check to see if the pulley and cam are properly installed.

What about the smaller pulley (also on the bottom but towards the front right corner)? I was thinking my issue was the belt, but when I tipped the washer over I found shredded pieces of the pulley on the floor and the pulley was shredded and jagged. And if I replace the smaller pulley will that solve the problem or is there some more serious problem that means I should just replace the washer? I am looking to get at least a few more years out of it. It's a solid machine and not filled with expensive electronics like newer ones. And should I go ahead and replace the belt while I have it tipped, in case the shredded pulley also affected the belt? Thanks.

Also, the washer spun and agitated almost 100% ok (though it would sound fairly loud and unbalanced) until a few weeks ago when it started getting really loud. Eventually last week it started making the burning smell so we quit using it.

Hi Gary, the smaller pulley is either on the pump shaft or the motor shaft and are not available separately. We do see some motor pulley failures occasionally and the part is relatively easy to change. What is your model number and I can check parts for you?
