Me and my wife were totally confused. She gave up right away... I sat there with voltage tick tracer to make sure it had voltage... then I fiddled with the knobs a bit, then stuck the dingus end of my tick tracer into the lid switch hole and it started. Called my wife and said honey I think know what the problem is... its the switch... she takes up a screw driver near by jams it in and the whole thing popped backwards... welp... your bypass video helped us out to where we can at least finish the load before we replace the whole dang thing now

I just did the same thing (without this video) to my disintegrated switch(keep the ground screwed to the washer body, shouldn't need to bother it at all, it's usually a green wire. This method avoids all that unscrewing the top panel and trying to move it around. My washroom is quite cramped and the method I made up worked perfectly.

god damn dude. i had the exact same roper as you do and had the same exact problem earlier this year so i figured i'd just replace it since the machine was 15 years old or so and i wanted something "newer".. biggest mistake ever. should've found your video instead and fixed it. now i'm stuck with a piece of shit HE machine that barely washes my clothes. edit: after owning the new LG washer for well over a year now, i must say, that thing actually washes pretty damn good. it takes about twice as long, so that's a pain in the ass, but the clothes come out nice and clean and not beat up by the agitator in the middle.

  • @steven_baconbits

    5 жыл бұрын

i cut and stripped the wire with a pair of wire cutters aka dykes. there is no ground wire this was just a simple low voltage switch. no taping just tucking it back into the wiring space. this was done to get the unit drained. On this washer model switch replacement requires cutting out the old switch that has soldered connections that cant be reused.

I was unable to siphon the water out of mine. So I bypassed the lid switch to drain it because the washer has to be moved to remove panels to get to that switch. The lid switch is a safety feature to keep people especially children out of the washer while it is running. Hope this helps and thank you for your comment.

Just do NOT buy a Roper. They are garbage. I have had this garbage for a year, A YEAR, and the lid lock does this so I have to unplug it and wait til it unlocks itself the cycles NEVER complete and stops working at the rinse cycle, sometimes the agitator doesn't spin though nothing is broken on it, and if a cycle does complete my clothes are sopping wet. GARBAGE. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY!!!

  • @steven_baconbits

Roper is a Whirlpool brand, and it's easy to agree they are not top of the line. Typically more affordable appliances are just older tech that's come down in price. The one I have is almost 20 years old no different than the basic washers most of us grew up with. A lid switch is a very minor problem for the age. Just like with cars an appliance can end up being a lemon and it sounds like maybe that's what's happened. It could be a problematic model and searching reviews might of alleviated that. The point of this video is not to promote or degrade a brand it's just to display an easy fix that's applicable to many different brands and models of this type of washer, and maybe others. It's a very basic switch bypass. Have a great day, Sincerely Steven.
