WASH AND GO with DIY FLAXSEED GEL | Natural Hair | TheLifestyleLuxe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I do a wash and go using diy / homemade flaxseed gel. I made the flaxgel perfectly this time around too! Flaxseed gel is super fast and easy to make. The recipe and instructions are below. Enjoy!⁣

Flaxseeds Gel Recipe⁣

Ingredients:⁣
• 2 1/5 cups water⁣
• 1/3 cup whole flaxseeds⁣

Instructions:⁣
1) Add water and flaxseeds to a medium-sized pot and stir to making sure all flaxseeds are submerged in water⁣

2) Set stove to a high heat and bring water to a boil (STAY NEXT TO POT DURING THIS WHOLE PROCESS)⁣

3) Once water starts boiling remove pot from eye and set stove to a low-medium to medium setting. Put pot back on eye and continue to boil for 8 minutes constantly stir the pot so that flaxseeds do not stick to the bottom of the pot. ⁣

(After about 8 minutes of boiling, water will be a SLIGHTLY thicker liquid (it will still be watery). There may also be a small trail of slime that hangs from your spoon once you remove it from the put.)⁣

4) After 8 minutes, remove pot from hot eye, cover it and allow it to completely cool for at least 2 hours.⁣

5) Pour seeds and gel into a clean wig cap, pantyhose, cheesecloth or milk bag. Squeeze the gel into the pot to separate gel from seeds. Then transfer gel to an airtight glass container or jar. ⁣

6) Store gel in fridge for up to 2 weeks. Store at room temperature from up to 4 days. ⁣

The easy way to do this is to simply strain the flaxseed mix with a regular strainer while it's still hot . It will thicken up as it cools down so no messy hands and no need for pantyhose. 1 to 2 tablespoon of flaxseed will yield enough for 2 week's use as the gel doesn't have to be very thick to get the hold and other benefits. Also, too much flaxseed may contribute to the likelihood of flaking. Add some oil for additional shine, smoothness and to minimize any hard cast.

Coat hair in oil (I use castor oil) before applying the gel should help keep the flakes and crunch away. Water/Aloe juice, oil then gel.

Much easier if you strain the Flax seed out of it while it’s a still alittle bit runny. As it cools in a jar already strained out it comes out perfect, no mess.

After stalling for a good 5 months, I decided today was the day to finally make my gel and I found this video. Thank you to the commenters who recommended straining right from the stove. My gel is currently fully strained and cooling and my rinsed flaxseeds are drying out in the strainer. This was so easy and I cannot wait to try it out. ❤️ Also, your hair is GORGEOUS!

I came out nice. I make such a mess when applying this though lol. Flaxseed gel gives me AMAZING hold. I got a good 5 days out of my wash and go the other day using it! It does set fairly hard at night when I pineapple it but I just spray my hair down the next day with my water and aloe mix and it’s like first day hair. Best of all it’s cheap. 😄

Kinky Curly (KC) hasn't been completely honest with its ingredients. Several years ago, I worked with a cosmetic chemist to help create a natural curling gel like KC for my own haircare line. When they reverse engineered KC curling custard, they said it was no way they only used what they listed on the jar. They added some other things in their formula and I have no idea what it is. It would have cost $25K to reverse engineer the formula and I didn't want to know that bad.

Wow! Very interesting. I have been a KC devotee from the very start of my natural journey and when the product was in short supply at the height of the pandemic, I really wanted to find other options but nothing worked as well. Now that my hair care supplier only sells the 8 oz jar, I cannot justify paying that price anymore. So happy to have come across this video and your insider info about KC.

I mixed a scoop full of chia seeds in with my flaxseeds when I made my gel. Works wonders.

@@onelittleplum True but bacteria and yeast can still form without giving off a scent. The problem I have with diys is it's never really tested to see how safe it is. It's just guess work. Anyway, I do flaxseed gel but I only do enough for one use or freeze it for a day or 2.
