“Like Sonny” is one of my favorite Trane cuts

Me, too.
Two highly creative individuals come together to create a multifaceted contrast that is pure art, not a bad deal.

it wasn't so much a rivalry, each man was searching for something and consequently they inspired each other
Fascinating story.. .

Thank you! Cheers!
The Audubon ballroom, where Malcolm X was assassinated! My friend almost purchased it at auction but at the last minute the City of New York pulled that property from being auctioned. In any case, they are both spectacular and will always be remembered. I love Sonny, possibly because I never saw Trane live and I also spent two minutes conversing with Sonny which was the experience of a lifetime.

I'm thankful He's still with Us❣😍🤩 He's called My Auntie "His Little Sis" the majority of My Life💥💖 It'll be nice if We're Gifted to share space with one another again 🤩😎💖
I want even born yet, but I know this one.
There was never any rivalry between these music cultural icons. Their music was on different paths. If there was competition it was generated by those seeking to make money off of these great friends who not but love and respect for each other. Music is not like sports, so quit trying to make it like sports. There are no winners or losers. Those polls mean nothing…..first place ??? As Miles said, So What 🤬

💖💖💖💖💖🤗 Thank You so much for saying these IMPACTING words!!! They're apparently needed by those who refuse to accept that this genre of artistry is Regal 😍💥🌅
Well, we know who won.

Do We? The societal conditioning We live in has Us so twisted that We're even having this conversation about 2 Endearing Men who are Beloved Family-Friends!!!!! John's not in this Realm of Life & Sonny is still here!!! I love them Both!!! They're Extended Family!!! My Aunt Aisha Tyner can attest to this💞💥💖... We all love one another💫🤩😎🥰💖

Who I guess I'm missing out
I saw Sonny at MOMA in 1965. It was a trio with Billly Higgins and Henry Grimes. I think Higgins played with his tongue.

@@JazzVideoGuy It's a very powerful memory. As is the time I met Ornette getting onto the subway after failing to find him for two weeks. I searched everywhere. Then, at the 42nd St subway stop, I saw the back of a man carrying a ton of horn cases and I ran up to help. Tapped him on the shoulder from behind. That was amazing! Ornette was kind to me.
After listening to a Branford Marsalis interview I wonder if the big difference was that Sonny built up a vast reservoir of melodies andsongs as the basis for his limitless improvisations. Which the old school jazz way. Whereas Trane was more methodical in building of chords and digital patterns. Not sure.
I've heard them both over time, Coltrane and Rollins. I have Coltrane lp records bot no Rollins.

@@JazzVideoGuy In my opinion, Coltrane is Hendrix on sax. He simply moves me in the direction like no other.
Friendly competition...

ADMIRATION WAS A PROMINENT PART OF OUR MUSIC... INSPIRING COLLABORATION! ❤
Sonny Rollins is the 4th major school of the tenor sax Trane is the 5th major school. Sonny Rollins influenced Trane and helped him kick his drug habit. So the answer to your question is emphatically no.
