Was Nebula worth all the effort? Maybe not

Ғылым және технология

One of the most beautiful PC's I've ever build was nearly canceled. Today we are going to talk about some of the most frustrating things about a build like Nebula and why I almost gave up on it.

    I hope you guys are staying safe. Sorry about the funky lighting in this video. Believe it or not I have no studio lights at my house and am only lighting these videos with the hue lights I installed in my gaming room and the natural light. Today it is raining so the natural light is not very strong. Sorry about that.

    hairychesticles1 agree 100%. I’ve been a fan of SLI since the Voodoo days and it’s difficult to say goodbye. Your idea (while most likely technically impractical) for having a card to handling RTX-Ops would be fantastic and reminds me of how some people would actually buy a lower end card for dedicated PHYSX. Back in 2013ish, I built myself a system with 2x GTX 780ti’s in SLI and a GTX 750ti that was used as a dedicated PHYSX card. Sure it wasn’t practical in the least but was cool!

  • @DerektheMenace

    @DerektheMenace

    Mishaal Dawnak it depends on a few factors with the biggest being dependent on each title/game. Also the drivers need to support mGPU (multiple GPU). And the support for mGPU has been falling for years with less and less support over time. A good example of this is Unreal Engine 3 & 4, which are the most widely used game engines, both have native support for mGPU yet many developers using UE 3 & 4 do not bother. There are workarounds that can be hit or miss but per game support is really the best. Others can chime in on how it’s a waste and you will never see a doubling (rarely even 40%) performance gains and that timings can get really bad (I have been pro-SLI long enough to be sick of that discussion).

    My life in quarantine has been rebuilding my devil's canyon PC with a new custom loop from EK (aluminium parts) and an old mATX case I had laying around (Zalman T5). Fact is that fitting all those parts in this tiny case involved a ton of modding/cutting/general headbanging, so I managed to spend more than a week on this. You, Linus, Kyle, Paul, Steve and also the general PCMR community inspired me to build this machine and I want to thank you for that.

  • @blackzaru

    Honestly: a single 2080Ti ftw3 under water requires a 240mm rad at least, a 9980XE requires a 480, 420 or a 360mm just to stay. So, with 2 2080Ti and a 9980XE, he would roughly need 840 to 960mm of 120mm rads. He was 840mm of 140mm rad... That's alright... for stock cooling. But then he decides to flash both cards bioses which greatly increase their maximum power draw, overclocks them, and proceeds to overclock the cpu... He almost doubled his power draw right there. No shit that the cpu and card will run hella hot, you are going way past what is considered a rule of thumb for watercooling. He easily has over 1000W of power draw from this system with the bios flash and overclock on full stress test, and he has about 1000W of heat dissipation power (would have had more if he used proper pressure-optimized fans). It was to be expected. At least, props to him for realizing it... but damn... It was a bit obvious.

    Let's fix Nebula. I would add an external radiator as Johannes Lemberg suggested. I would go with the aqua computer airplex gigant. And connect it up on the backside with flex tubing, quick connects and a stupid amont of fans. And if I was Jayztwocents I would do an custom paintjob on it to match Nebula or make it unique and place it on the desk. Or maybe add only one fan at the top like the Corsair One...

After watching a lot of your videos and Gamers Nexus I learned about the different components of a computer as well as how to pick parts for a more tailored system. Once I had all the parts I put everything together and pushed the button SUCCESS no magic smoke, all the lights came on, and for the past week things have been great!! Didn't see anyone comment the answer on here so I thought I would throw that up here. Measure/Navigate twice, sail once. Playing battleship games, 5 miles can mean the difference between Docking at the Marina Del Rey, and running right into the Santa Monica Pier. Big Deal, glad Nebula's tubes turned out perfect though.

    i mean the case allone is 1000$? I got my 928 for 1500€. Thing with that case is, that it looks good and is big. Problem is, that they could have done a much better job. Why the F cant you install 4 420mm rads? i mean even 2 additional 30mm thick would be great... you have a slides instead of holes in the front. Even for 120mm fans/ rads. but you cant place it there. i got a 280mm there because iam using only 4 screws in the wrong holes (the bottem 2 from the middle and the top are my tops) and 3 140mm ultra slim fan that have 120mm mounting holes. and the back is even wors. you cant have a rad there without fans or if you move the fans to the outside. and even with the normal configuration a had to buy 90° adapters for my cables because there interfering with the bottem fan... I still love that case but man, if they had made it 5cm longer and taller to acommedate for the mounting, it would have been nearly perfect for the job. but In Win only makes the cases so you can do what they think of in it. want a little bit extra and you have a bad time.
