there are more possible iterations of a game of chess than there are atoms in the observable universe? This means that if every atom in the universe were a game of chess being played simultaneously, there would still be more possible games of chess than that. In fact, the number of possible chess games is estimated to be around 10^120, while the number of atoms in the observable universe is estimated to be around 10^80. This goes to show just how complex and intricate the game of chess really is!

Stockfish says the gambit is unsound: after 18...Rc7, White has a virtually won position, and if 21.Nf3, white is completely winning. The tactics seem to force really obvious moves: white just swaps down and uses the extra pawn to win. Or, after Rc7 there are some lines where black regains the pawn, but white can activate his king and leave black's king trapped, and that's enough for a win too. I was just analyzing it because I don't like facing the slav, and the exchange variation is becoming popular among GMs who also don't like the slav. Thank you and have a good day. [edit: oh yeah, I see you mentioned it. Fischer or Karpov: one of those players who were good at seeing when the position revolved around a single feature, and things like "good knight versus bad bishop" were distractions. See Fischer v. Petrosian, candidates final, game 5 I think? The one where Fischer has a knight that looks dominating and just exchanges it for a bishop that's been on d7 the whole game. Because Fischer's pieces were more active and to fully exploit black's cramp, he needed not one open file, but two, and that "powerful knight" was in the way. Super instructive game, like a lot of complete blowouts are -- I highly recommend it.]

I wonder if anyone is working on making a computer program that can figure out what the best move to play FOR A HUMAN in a chess game would be? Like a move that requires 10 exactly precise follow-up moves to be good would be evaluated as worse than it normally would be since a human probably wouldn't find all those moves. Or conversely a move is evaluated as better than it normally would be if it requires 10 exactly precise moves by the opponent to defend successfully. That's just off the top of my head - possibly other human factors could be considered too. And of course the "best human move" would differ depending on the skill of the players involved.

I believe if pawn to a6, bxc6 comes with check and you don’t lose the bishop or the queen because the bishop captures the black knight with check. Black would be forced the recapture with the queen or else black will lose the queen due to the queen being undefended since a6 was played. If a6,then bxc6,then qxc6 is forced or black will lose the queen and white is up a bishop.

Ke8 would not work because the f pawn will fall if you move the black king due to the outside A passed pawn. If ke8, white will play rxf7, then black will recaptures with the rook(rxf7). White responds with Nxf7. After this black cannot capture the knight (kxf7)due to the A pawn promotion (a7,a8=queen) is unstoppable if you eat the knight on f7. Either way the e6 pawn will fall or the f7 pawn will fall. It is hard to see at first and I hope my explanation is clear. So basically ke8, rxf7, rxf7, nxf7, at this point black is forced to play bxa6 in order to stop the passed A pawn and white wins the f pawn and the knight escapes to safety. So trying to protect the pawn is impossible. Hope that helped and that my explanation was easy to follow. Feel free to ask questions if it still isn’t clear.

Who cares what Magnus thinks. He had a point with chess classical being all about preparation in engine times. FIDE have got to change things. Make it like F1 where you have to play year round in different locations and different openings.
