"You have all you wanted...Emperor..." He has what he asked for but as they both look the chalice is empty. Gold, but nowhere to spend it or anyone to recognize its value. An emperor in service to another. A chalice, but nothing to drink.

Calus and the Witness were definitely the best parts of the expansion. I also love that you can clearly read the Witness's barely suppressed contempt for Calus. He hates him. But he recognizes his power and so he's happy to use him. The same is clearly true for Nezarec. They don't even share the same goals, they actually oppose each other, since the Witness wants to bring an end to all pain, which would, I think, literally kill Nezzy. But you see it in the way he looks at Calus in the same scene you described. The way he calls him "Emperor", making the title sound so hollow and ephemeral.

Even during his exile Calus, had an obscene amount of material wealth sailing around the galaxy on his planet devouring ship he's always had more than one single person can even fathom, let alone enjoy to the fullest and this isn't even mentioning how lavish his time as emperor must have been. Caiatl comparing him to a hungry dog chasing something he doesn't know he wants is really apt, because it's his family that Calus really was missing this whole time and the one thing he could never have so he replaced it with anything to distract himself. The Witness saying that he fears purpose and that being his ultimate failure is also correct to an extent, because Calus is probably less down for what The Witness has planned then Rhulk and Nezerec, but still just wants to be a part of something greater than him even at the cost of his own power. I think the item that sums it best is the Heartsteel sword, you can collect made of a quantum-locked Cabal metal that will always remember and in time retain its' original shape no matter what's done to it. Passed down in Calus' family for millennia and despite being ousted by his own daughter, Calus has spent most of his exile sending her the blade to ensure that legacy doesn't end, only for Caiatl to send it back each time, broken and with the head of the messenger to boot. This was the only form of communication Calus and Caiatl had for many years and for Calus, a reminder that the past cannot be undone so easily that he never liked to acknowledge for long. Always chasing the next revelry instead while harboring a long life of suffering due to separation from the one he loves above all. He's really one of the most tragic characters in all of Destiny. ....And then Nimbus comes flying in for the unrequited fist-bump, get this man off my screen lol

"What is the veil?" Question of the year, indeed.

1:53:00 "what about exos?" I think in Zavala's mind, exos are included with "humans" since they were never a faction hostile to the Last City. The Awoken distrusted humanity for centuries and refused to take part in Earth's battles on either side: they were explicitly _not_ our allies until House of Wolves. (Petra's announcement "the Reef is now open to you" is a pivotal moment in the history of both humanity and the Awoken, but it tends to go by unnoticed by most players.) And of course the Eliksni and Cabal need no explanation.

The reason for Elsie having a fish thing is in the collectors edition lore book i believe. She found it on an abandoned space station on an astroid above neptune

parts of this story can also be found in the lore tabs for some of the Lightfall preorder items - namely, the Quicksilver Storm exotic auto rifle (which was first made available early as a bonus for preordering Lightfall's Annual Pass edition) and the Speed Metal exotic ghost shell.

Definitely my favorite thing of Lightfall was whenever the Witness or Calus on screen There's alot to dissect whenever they interact, during the Witness & Calus's 1st cutscene, the Witness looks at Calus's empty chalice & looks disgusted, this can be interpreted as the Witness immediately knew that Calus has all the power he ever wanted, but he still wasn't satisfied, it wasn't enough (notice how after that, the Witness never calls him "Disciple" like it did in the 1st cutscene, only as "Emperor" afterwards. Also if u noticed there's moments where the Witness wants to capture the Veil but also seemingly wants it destroyed (like it stated when it possessed Ghost), it only said it as a way to hasten us, if Calus failed to obtain it, it could always possess Ghost instead There's also an activity on Neptune in the bottom left called "Veil Containment" it covers information on the Veil however I suggest u wait till u cover the rest of the seasons as it takes place over the course of them & contains spoilers for some seasons if u havent played their content

An important bit of lore you might want to check out post-campaign is the veil containment mission. I don't entirely recall when you unlock it, but when you do it's on the left side of the neomuna map, just off screen when you first click on it.

That was honestly the most epic Calus fight gameplay I have seen holy shit.

Dang this has made me appreciate the little things of Lightfall that I didn’t pick up on the first time. I’m glad you had better managed expectations than most of the community (including myself) did when it launched. I think most of us felt pretty disappointed by the quality and pacing or the writing, and still do to some degree. I’ve warmed up on it a little but I still feel a lot of issues. But it’s also nice to see those things appreciated for their positives. I’m curious to see what you think of the seasons as you progress through them. I think you should be able to make it *just* in time for the final shape.

This wasn't mentioned in the story, from what I remember, and was part of lore entries. I think. So I'll explain the cloudstrider question. Yes. It's nanotechnology. something in a similar vein to SIVA. But not SIVA exactly. It's implanted into them and augments their bodies, making them larger, and stronger.

Lighfall post-campaign has a lot of important information, but a huge part of it are audio logs that came with the seasons, so there is a little spoiler from season of the deep in one of them

As soon as Rohan was introduced he immediately screamed the "two weeks from retirement" cop trope that is so often used. So when he died I had literally no emotion because I'd already known he was gonna be written out sooner or later.

Lightfall. Finally. You're in the home stretch now Terra. Honestly, kind of the most disappointing expansion to me, story wise. The seasons that follow are actually pretty good though. I think Lightfall had a LOT of cool concepts. I loved neomuna and the cloudstriders, and how they were on guard against lightbearers because of the old Warlords. And most of all, the fact that Lightfall ends on a Loss. That was great. But things just felt a bit too...rushed. no explanations, no connections, no real depth. Things were just happening. And that disappointed me. Lightfall had the potential for more. Anyway! I'm just starting the video, I hope you enjoyed this. I'll probably leave comments about questions you ask as it goes. Can't wait for you to see the seasonal stuff.

Even with the reputation this expansion has, I am still so excited to watch this !

Fun fact, you wouldn’t be able to understand Nezerac is saying in that mission you did if you hadn’t worn his helmet. Pretty cool!

You seemed to have a lot of fun with this. Thank you for going in with an open mind and not listening too hard to some folks who may have been a little too harsh on this expansion.

Lightfall was definitely one of the expansions of all time. I can't say I hated it, although it did send me into a horrific depressive spiral the night it released due to everyone and their mothers trashing on the expansion I'd just spent a hundred dollars on (I preordered the Annual Pass edition like a sucker). Strand is pretty fun, so at least there's that.

I cracked up at "the square hole" joke more than I should have. Here I am almost two hours later still laughing to myself.

Lightfall may not be everyone's favorite from a narrative stand point, but the music slaps

I love how Strand was hinted at all the way back in Beyond Light by the Drifter and Eris. 😁

For how little of the overarching story Lightfall progresses, I really enjoy a lot of the little stuff in. Theres a lot of good little character moments in it, and I especially like Osris's story. Idk why but everyone seemed pissed off with his character when this launched, just saying he was annoying and should shut up. IMO hes perfectly in character, this is the man who was the best of the best, a literal legend, master of tons of stuff, and more. And in 1 second has it all taken away from him when Sagira dies, then spends over a year possesed and then in a coma. And like he says in Seraph, he feels like a "relic" cause of how much hes missed. And now here in lightfall, hes frantic because the end of everything with the witness is on our door step and he obviously has a chance to stop it, but also wants to prove hes useful and can contribute. And the entire campaign, and the process of learning Strand is learning to move with the flow and take things in stride. Idk I think its actually some really good character work, which if it ended up as part of a season I think would have been taken much better

He had incredible character development in Witch Queen and became more wisened and humbled. But throughout Lightfall’s campaign, it went entirely undone like he unlearned all that. He’s making rash choices and outbursts like he would have from Curse of Osiris. That’s not good to undo all that growth even momentarily. From my opinion that’s what I experienced so the dislike isn’t exactly unwarranted. It’s good he learned more through his time on Neomuna, but trying to connect the behavior is uncanny. Veteran players who played for years know Osiris and made enough of a bond to understand him.

Fun fact: Every now and then there are a few places where you can hear incomprehensible whispers, if you play Nezarecs's Sin you can understand the whispers

Great video! I found it a bit funny that the video ends as abruptly as the campaign can feel like. xD. Heads up, you can play through the Lightfall seasons to get the story organically if you do it before the Final Shape launches! (I'm guessing your friends have probably already mentioned this, but wanted to shout it out just in case. The seasons are currently free as I understand as well.) You're in the final stretch now, looking forward to the next few videos leading up to launch!

And you’re basically caught up! The seasons have some more story but that’s pretty much it, abrupt ending without explaining too much of what the veil is, just that it was super important. I’m not sure if you’ve done it yet but there is a quest that does talk about Rohan, Nimbus and some other details that would be really cool to know, it’ll answer a small question you had in a previous video 😊 I won’t say much about the Veil (there’s really not much TO say I’ll be honest) but at the time all we knew is that it was somehow linked to the traveler some way I will tell you this, the first season (defiance) doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense, but it was kind of fun to play! I’m not sure if you’ll play it or watch it but I hope you enjoy every moment regardless I know you’ve got your gang already but if you ever do need an extra body to do stuff I’d be willing to help, I’ve got nearly 5200 hours in the game and haven’t tried enough of it, you’ve probably done more raids than me at this point! But I can hit a mean dps phase 😎

Lightfall definitely left us with a lot more questions than answers, but if you’re willing to explore and dig it had plenty of fun content in its own right. You’re almost caught up now, have fun with the current seasons, and with the Final Shape in two weeks!

Glad you enjoyed lightfall overall, imo its not great but its not the blight on the world some people seemed to describe it as. IDK if you know this, the issues with lightfall is that it was effectively cut in half and stretched out. Back even before beyond light Bungie layed out a road map that was Beyond light > Witch Queen > Lightfall as the final trilogy of the saga. Then when Witch queen got delayed they announced final shape as the "True Final" Chapter of the saga. Once you get through all of the expansion and the seasons you can see the "full picture" of what they wanted to do and its very good imo, but something caused them to pump the breaks. The good news is even if lightfall was a "break pump" final shape, from everything we've seen is shaping up to be back in Witch Queen territory, cant wait till we're all there

Oh! Also, before I forget, just in case you haven't recorded the seasons yet, make sure you read the lore entries for the seasonal exotics for the seasons. Weapons, Sparrows, Ships, that are from the season pass and the season quests. They tend to have REALLY important context. ESPECIALLY for Season of The Wish. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU READ THAT SHIP DESCRIPTION once you're done with the story. I won't say why. Spoilers. You'll understand when you see it.

The cloudstriders were made with modified Siva and Radiolaria. therfore thy only remain for about 10 years

Lightfall was supposed to be the final expansion and I think a combination of corporate greed/ necessary delays from COVID led Bungie higher ups to simply cut what would have been the final expansion in half, stuff it with a lot of Strand training montage filler and call it "the artistic vision of an 80s action movie" as they marketed the expansion after announcing Final Shape would follow and then also including a lot of story shenanigans like the dumb ending where our Guardian literally hands over the Veil as they forgot the Witness could possess our Ghost. The most damning evidence that this is the case is the opening and closing cinematic, which fit together PERFECTLY and basically have the whole Vanguard + Elsie and Mara watching the Witness for the entirety of Neomuna's story and doing nothing AND the abruptness of the Witness' attack on the Traveler. These were one cut-scene meant for the end or middle but was cut for filler to go in between. Not telling the player what the Veil is at any point in the expansion (those expository scenes were added after they get some negative reception for the story) means that we should have known what the Veil was BEFORE going to Neomuna in the original script and Bungie, (forgot?) to account for that when they padded out the expansion. Even Strand itself may have even been originally slated for Witch Queen, there's a lot of evidence it was cut from there and replaced with Deep Sight for plot and to give Lightfall Part 1 more meat.

Also I don’t know if anyone told you yet (I also haven’t finished the video yet) but wearing some Nezarec gear like Nezarecs Sin I believe gives some special lines occasionally 🙂

This season was so Megaman NT warrior I loved it. Love old school digiscape-style net worlds

No spoilers but I think as you see the next couple seasons you’ll feel the sentiment that players where feeling about many of the pending questions that light fall made you ask and want to have answers to. I think there are many things that made lightfall fun and am happy that you had fun with the expansion. I love how you put it this is the beach episode of destiny the thing that hurt was for a lot of people it was hyped to be infinity war before the endgame.

THE VEIL

Lightfall is fun but greatly flawed. Strand is such a fun addition, but the story had taken a back seat for the sake of giving Strand the limelight, pun intended. The Veil has been the major criticism, being the macguffin that had no explanation until several weeks later. Even Neomuna, one of the biggest revelation as a hidden bastion of humanity, has been overshadowed by Strand and the Veil goose chase. To clarify: gameplay was good, world-building was poor.

I think it's funny you played FFXIV, my favorite game, from start to current finish. Then you went and played my other favorite game, Destiny 2, to current completion. You're just going through my list. LOL Keep doing it, you've become one of my favorite streamers over time because you enjoy the same things I do. Very good entertainment, thank you.

To be completely honest, I'm coming back from season of the haunted, so i missed out essentially almost the entirety of lightfall this year, so now you know my perspective. This is how i feel about Lightfall (maybe spoilers) First off, i only bought lightfall once i came back, as i saw how overpowered strand was and how useful its builds can be. Now, story wise, i enjoyed it, like people complaining about the story being bad, i mean its a bit meeeeeh, but the cutscenes were really good (besides the first) and i think there were a lot of moments which i actually enjoyed it. But gameplay and price wise, holy sh*&, i payed $30 for that, and i still feel scammed. Lightfall feels like it's worth 20-25 USD at most. 21 steps in the story line ending with 3 or 4 steps of filler dialogue is unacceptable, especially during it's original selling price of $50. The gameplay was so lack luster, absolutely nothing interesting, it ruined the hype of strand because it kept forcing us to use it while slowly degrading its capability. And then each mission was essentially just us finding a strand source, then getting our light suppressed, destroy light suppression thingies, with strand, kill a boss with inf strand supers, then rinse and repeat. I honestly feel bad for those who pre-ordered full price for this dlc. I honestly can relate as i pre-ordered d2 collectors edition before the official launch in September. At least i haven't ever pre-ordered a game since, but hears to hoping that "The Final Shape" will exceed expectations! (typically because bungie has a pattern of release good, bad, good, bad over and over again).

While not the end of LF story I’m curious how you’ll approach LF’s seasons. Do you plan on playing them or watching it, I’m curious?

I was just running post lightfall and ran into a mission called "Strider" I believe. It takes 3 days to fully complete that mission before moving on. That's 3 days I don't have to spend on one video. SO. After seeing that, the current plan is to video react to defiance, deep, and witch. And then play as much of wish MYSELF. 💀 (I will still play these seasons off camera as much as I can in goblin mode)

I’m glad to see someone actually taking the time to understand Nimbus’ character. People have been bashing them since LF dropped, and it’s really sad to see. I’ve even had CIS people telling me, a Non-Binary individual, that Nimbus is bad Non-Binary rep because they find them annoying. They were 100% out of place in LF with their cheerfulness, but that’s exactly the point. Nimbus is using their positivity as a shield, something to make them feel normal in an abnormal situation. After Rohan’s death they use their humor to cope with his death, but you can clearly see it effects them when they’re just with you and they let the mask fall. Nimbus, by the way, is a Codename. Their real name is Dara Danu, and before they became a Cloudstrider they were 5’1 and not even 100lbs. Now they’re 10 feet tall with arms thicker than a human head. I’m not ashamed whatsoever to admit that I’m a hardcore Nimbus Simp. Overall, I really appreciate that Bungie didn’t default to the Non-Binary character stereotypes and I love the details in their design such as their earrings switching from pinkish-red to off-white then to blue like the trans flag and them wearing high heels. They’re just such an underrated character, and I really wish people payed a bit more attention to their dialogue and lore.

Onward to the seasons.

There’s a fun little lore book that accompanied the dlc that explains a little about the past Cloudstriders. What’s really cool about it is it’s flavored as a children’s program, and it’s riddled with Neomuni propaganda

the only good thing about lightfall campaign is strand , but it's a whole damn grind for all the fragments and aspects

I will say this dlc has really fun gameplay and I even enjoyed some of the cutscenes with osris but it just feels like they put the story last which was very disappointing because the main reason I play the game is story

Lightfall gets a lot of hate but it was not a bad expansion, it's sotry is bad, but not the worse, and it's gameplay is probably top 3 out of all the expansions. However it's by far the most disappointing release, such great buildup only to stumble hits hard

I'll echo what others have said; there is ZERO logical reason for any of you to be posting spoilers and ruining the story for Terra before he gets to experience. What do you gain, by making such a post? What, attention you don't deserve? Like honestly, it's SO pointless and does nothing whatsoever EXCEPT ruin the story, so maybe just... grow up and get a life? It's not that hard to ONLY discuss what is in this video and nothing from the seasons. It's so incredibly, stupidly simple to understand.

It was fun, but almost completey carried by strand. The campaign and first season was so insanely mediocre that nobody tuned back in for some honestly pretty solid follow-up seasons.

Strand itself is the best thing we’ve gotten since forsaken. Everything else sucked.
