SERIES SUMMARY
The Alpha Jay Show reviews animation episodes, animated TV movies, cartoons, and other things as a main series. I have reviewed many things from Fairly Oddparents to SpongeBob to Teen Titans Go to The Amazing World Of Gumball and many more. Expect a fair, open-minded and non-pandering review of whatever episode I use. Bear in mind while I do use copyrighted material, it is highly likely that my content falls under the legal defense of fair use.

-
SHOW SUMMARY
Things are crowded in the Loud household, with 11 children -- 10 girls and one boy -- causing craziness in the house. As the only boy, 11-year-old Lincoln is in the middle of all of the chaos. Whether his sisters are giving him unwanted makeovers or he's racing them to the couch to gain control of the TV, Lincoln is often getting involved in antics with his siblings. Lincoln's best friend Clyde, who happens to be an only child, is jealous of Lincoln's large family and is always willing to play his part in the schemes. Clyde has a crush on Lori, Lincoln's oldest sister and self-proclaimed boss, who is dating Bobby, who holds many jobs -- including lifeguard and mall security guard -- even though he's not very smart.

Alpha Jay Show {} People are overreacting. Cool, they did that in the episode. But that's the extent of my excitement. I see it as just another character trait that separates her from the rest of the kids and makes her unique. I'm not a regular watched of the show, and I haven't even seen a full episode, only stuff like this where you see clips and silent footage being talked over. But I think the show is great and something not done before. It's a fresh idea that I can't personally say I've seen anywhere else. And the uniqueness of each character is pulled off perfectly without them seeming too far out there. They all feel like real people. And again, this is all spoken from the point of view of a non-viewer.

i think its really great the creator did something right for a change bringing up same sex love into the show because the want the viewers to know that love can be what you want it to be a man or a woman or two man or two woman or any kind of person or thing

They also did something else right in this episode: Leni is portrayed as a popular blonde girl, and us viewers would assume she would go after hot, rich, skinny boys. But nah, She went for the cute chubby guy that works retail. I think that's adorable.

Clyde literally has two dads. Why is anyone surprised? Because they did it twice? Plus it really should have been obvious from the beginning. I think in that group Sam is the one that visually stands out the most and thus is likely an important character. I predicted she was Sam before the reveal.

I'm just now getting into the show but if I had to take a guess as to why it boils down to two things: 1) Even though we should be in a phase of normalizing this form of representation like Alpha said, there will be dozens of people losing their minds whether they're lgbt+ praising representation or parents freaking out because they "don't know if their kid should watch this." I love that this is in the show and as I watch am interested to see where it goes as a viewer and not an overreacter 2) I think it's because she's 15 in the show. I don't know this for sure but I don't thing there are a long list of lgbt+ children/teenagers especially in cartoons/animation. This could actually be a big deal as most people in that community start to come to the realization about their sexuality at this age and that's something not really shown in this type of media very often. Normally, film/tv/animation make the character an adult for some reason when this younger age could be something nice for younger viewers learning about who they are. I can understand the loud response if this is the reason, but I still hope it's one day normalized

It's probably because Clyde's dads were introduced really early on, and at least one gay couple is common in modern day cartoons. But teens and children, it's incredibly rare in animation at the moment, and Nickelodeon took a huge step making Luna a lesbian/anything that involves a same sex attraction (she could be bi? Who knows).

@@danielw.6922 Hmm, Yes but you have to understand Christian pushed it under the rug too. When a Christian nation tried to pull it off. Most islamic nations have very few allies. Where as Uganda a nation that's part of the UN and geneva and is a christian nation. Tried to push a kill the gays bill that was promoted by US based Evangelical Christians. Which was only stopped by the UN. However you can still be imprisoned for life, same as killing them. So in reality Christian extremist are no better than Muslim extremist. The only difference is people push back against Christians and have a world that will push back with them. Where as muslims are sanctioned off, has few outside contacts and influences. This doesn't include the LGBT who died in conversion therapy or were driven to suicide. Even the conversion therapy which has been shown not to work. Which is nothing more than a fancy concetration camp. Is used by Christian parents. Because those extremist rather torture, or have their kids committ a greater sin (Suicide) then be gay. So what we learn is this. If it wasn't for Human rights, Christian extremist would be right there beside Islam slaughtering every homosexual they can. That's literally the only thing that separates the two. And no just because Christian extremist are stopped by human rights organizations does not make Christian extremist better than islam. Thankfully not all Christians are zealots who have a murder boner and forget the commandement "thou shalt not kill."

Most of my excitement of the scene comes not from what is happening, but more who it's happening to. Luna takes a risk that will make her happy, and it looks like it was a good call based on the end of the episode. They knew it would be like a sweet twist ending by the music they played, showing that they hoped nobody would expect this, and honestly, I was only able to guess that it wouldn't be one of the sisters getting the letter. When that last scene came on, I realized that there were two surprises in one great episode!

I think the subtlety and down to earth feel made this episode very acceptable. The writers went at this the right way, whether it was this or could have been a guy or girl in a wheelchair. People relate to the Loud House because of its vast array of characters and how they feel similar to that person. I'm glad the Loud House writers are taking this sort of subject and going at it without preaching or acting like social justice warriors. All in all, well done episode.

That's actually a really interesting idea. Maybe someone like Lynn falling for a person in a wheel chair or who needs crutches. Heck it doesn't even need to be a romance. Have her form a friendship that forces her to slow down and be gentle, while forming a relationship based off common interests (sports) and personality. On a side note, it kinda saddens me that people are so wrapped up with Luna's female crush, that they ignore the fact that Leni (pretty, looks obsessed valley girl) has a crush on a (let's be honest) fat boy. This, I thought, says alot about Leni's kind hearted and accepting character.

  • @NoahGower

Leni's crush was also a nice little detail. She doesn't care what a person looks like and probably worked with him (I'm guessing that's the drama department). I like it when the plot has the relationships... simply happen. I hate it in general when a show goes out of their way to make a relationship making it seem as if it is the most important thing a show has ever done regardless of who is in the relationship. Here, the connection happens without the show screaming at you about it. The only problem with this episode is that it will probably attract a number of gay-relationship obsessed fans (read: those tumblrinas), which will make this fandom quite cancerous in the long run (kind of like what they did to steven universe and adventure time).

  • @NoahGower

It was shocking cause it was a well written twist in a well written episode. I'm excited to see where this goes, but I'm not holding my breath for a LGBT revolution that will never come as the existence and general acceptance of moments like this show that everthing is going fine. So everyone just calm down and enjoy. That goes for celebrators and detractors. To detractors, LGBT character aren't going anywhere and they're not going to "taint your youth" or whatever. And to celebrators, more LGBT character will come in due time. Not every character needs to be LGBT. Let them come naturally and they will be better witten for it.

I was a little surprised (pleasantly so) seeing Luna's crush be on a girl, because growing up I had NO queer representation in the shows I watched. I mean, on Disney channel's A.N.T Farm, when Chyna got cast as a boy in a school play, opposite Lori as the lead girl (or vise versa, don't remember) when the girls went in for the kiss between the male and female characters of the play, they got grossed out and turned away from eachother. And that could be attributed to the fact that those particular girls simply aren't gay themselves, but it still put out a message of girls kisssing girls is "gross." So I was ecstatic to see a family/children's show that had a main female character canonically interested in another female character in a romantic way. It was a big deal for me. Another example, the first time I saw a confirmed gay couple in a kids show was on Good Luck Charlie (the two moms of Charlie's friend from pre-school), and the show got cancelled with no further episodes. Not only did, "The Lound House," not get cancelled for having a main character display same sex attraction, but they have another main character with two dads! "The Loud House," has been making me very happy on the representation front.

Maybe because I'm "old" (at least, by how old I think some of you may be in comparison--didn't you say you were born in 1997, Alpha?), but I kind of got an idea that Sam was a girl from something that may have been an animation error, and if it was, I'm sorry and I don't mean to offend any LGBTQ folks, but in the "signal" part (where she's on the bus), she's only wearing one ear ring. Her left ear. In the old days, left ear for men meant that they were straight and right meant that they were gay. Conversely, if a girl wears an ear-ring in her left ear only, it was a "signal" that she is a lesbian. Again, it may have been an animation error, but she wasn't wearing a paper-clip in her right ear on the bus. Again, I hope I'm not offending anyone; it's just that used to be a thing a long time ago and I don't know if it still is.

To be honest, it's crazy how people reacted towards this. Luna is bisexual. She has a crush on a girl. Okay? Like? Is that a big deal? It's 2017. Being non-heterosexual isn't a "bad thing" anymore. Kind of off topic, but I'm honestly glad that they have implemented Luna being bisexual. Many people don't support bisexuals. *Radical* Christians think we are " committing sin", and that we should "stick" to a heterosexual relationship. Heck, even the LGBTQ+ dislikes us. A lot of members and supporters of the LGBTQ+ are saying that bisexuals shouldn't be included or accepted because we are "part straight" It honestly hurts. I'm glad that my girl Luna is a representation of us bisexuals

Christians are just a bunch of narrow-minded bigots who think their beliefs are better than everyone else's and will stop at nothing to try and convert as many people as they can to their cause, so who cares what they think? And the LGBTQ+ are hypocrites because they want to be accepted as normal people alongside straights, yet at the same time they reject bisexuals due to the bullshit "part straight" argument, so they ought to get their shit together. Luna being bisexual was a ballsy move on Nick's part, but still noble nonetheless.

Yes, I'm gay, but that in no way makes me similar to Chris Colfer or George Takei. I may have some similar traits, but not because I'm gay. Also, I saw Luna giving her letter to a girl a mile away because it's become the new hip thing to do in media. Need to show that you're not a bigot. Add a gay romance. Not saying that this one was definitely that, but it's become so prevalent that it's getting hard to tell the difference.

@Issac Evilman- You are a small candle of hope in the dim cave of groupthink. The LGBTQ "community" is designed to consolidate and render uniform the opinions of those within. This is good for a small number of 'victories', but will inevitably spiral into a state where the leaders seek only to gain and keep power. Thus the movement shifts from fixing problems to making them permanent.

  • @cannibalisticrequiem

I know this video is four months old, but I want to add my two cents. Personally, as someone who is bisexual, it makes me happy to see any queer representation in a TV show, especially kids media, as it was sorely lacking in it when I was a kid (the most I got was queer-coded characters, they were implied to be gay, lesbian, bi, etc but it was never outright stated, as not to offend the pearl-clutching straight parents-- Mr. Simmons from Hey, Arnold! is a perfect example of this). However, the problem lies with the fact that because the LGBT+ community is so underrepresented in children's media, that pleasing us is piss easy. We've been so starved for queer representation, that we'll voraciously lap up any scraps given to us. We lose our shit because it was rare to see a representation, let alone a positive representation, of ourselves in children's media, so when we see the rare affection shown between an unfused Ruby and Sapphire, Korra and Asami holding hands in the last shot of The Legend of Korra, or the reveal of Dumbledore being "gay the whole time", even though it was never mentioned in-universe, and wasn't mentioned until *after* the books had ended (same thing happened with LoK), we tend to get a bit overzealous in our excitement of seeing a small sliver of representation of ourselves. And because we know that certain networks will yank shows right off the air because of it (Disney Channel's Good Luck Charlie had an episode where the parents of a classmate of Charlie's are two mothers, and the show was quickly cancelled after conservative parents made a stink about it. And as for the quick blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of a gay couple in an episode of Star vs The Forces of Evil, the internet lost their shit over it, but conservative groups didn't really care, as the show airs exclusively on Disney XD-- a channel many people don't watch, as it's not on basic cable). While it is annoying to see, the only way this hype will die down is if, as you said, queer characters/relationships are normalized. However, the only way that will happen, is if network executives stop pussyfooting around with queer-coding, and queer-baiting, and *actually* publicly have an out character or couple, and to not give into the pressure of removing/cancelling shows or characters, because conservatives take offense to our mere existence.

My problem with this episode is that it literally DEPENDS on you being shocked by the twist. Think about it. If the real Sam that was always in the background was another boy, what would be satisfying about the ending? That her siblings were just looking at the wrong guy? It's an episode full of filler just so they can surprise you at the end with LGBTQ support. If you want the gay relationship seem more normal, it has to fit naturally into the story and shouldnt need to be surprising for the episode to lead up to anything.

Thatguy Line Honestly, I don't really get what that has to do with anything. You can have an organic, romantic story between two girls without needing episode-to-episode continuity. All they needed to do was not make the "Sam is a girl" reveal thing a twist, and have a same-sex crush story within the episode. The plot could have been the Louds trying to help Luna get up the nerve to talk to Sam, or any other romance plot that doesn't rely on the big surprise that they're gay

I didn't actually watch this episode, but I feel like it was actually trying to say that falling in love with someone of the same sex is the exact same thing as loving the opposite sex, cause it makes you think that it was the guy only for it to be the girl. It shows that being gay isn't just for a pleasurable night, it's actually falling in love, just like people do in a straight relationship. If they showed that sam was the girl right away, people wouldn't see that there is no difference between being gay and being straight.

zigmus00A yeah to me only being interested or like a character simply because they're this or that instead of their actual personality is honestly shallow to me. People should like the characters for the characters not just because they represent yourself.

this episode did surprise me a little, but that's only because I have been watching cartoons since as long as I can remember, and not have they once shown anything that had to do the LGBTQ community. I was happy that they ended this episode like this because it not only showed children but families that you should take a risk and voice your feelings to the person (no matter what the gender) you like

Trash Keem Since multiple governments around the world consider that love is love and allow LGBT or at least L&G marriage, kids have to know it's normal nowadays. Who knows, maybe they have one or more friends whose parents are Gays or Lesbians. And what you actually call "shit" is just another form of love, a love between two persons of the same sex. And if you want to forbid this "shit" to kids, let's just forbid kids to learn what is love until they are older (unless it is fraternal love or parental love)

I'm glad someone FINALLY addressed this. I love how the writers went about it as well. They didn't just focus on her and make it a big deal about what gender the character likes. They NORMALIZED it. Same thing with Craig of the Creek (normalizing a black family). I wish all shows could do this. This is what people mean when they say a lot of characters are unnecessaryly gay, just so a network can say they're "inclusive". And you can feel the cringe and how unnatural everything is, a good example would be the sister in Atypical...or almost every show we watch. Hope to see more natural representation like this

I raved for this episode knowing that somewhere a young lesbian suddenly knew that the crushes that she was getting was normal instead of being afraid or repressing it. My first step to coming out was seeing actual f/f relationships and knowing it was an option (Thanks, Sims 2!)
