I still think that 'The Girlfriend' is by far the worst episode from Gumball.

Is anyone else not noticing that Darwin used to be scared of Supernatural activities? And now he is dating a literal ghost. I think it would have been pretty fun have episode where they explore that and how Darwin got over his fear

This episode was surprisingly, the first The Amazing World of Gumball episode I ever watched on Television. So it really introduced me to the show, and it (for some reason) holds a special place in my heart.

This episode is one of the oldest ones I remember watching as well and imo is one of the best episodes in the show

because like the op said, this is the first season of the show, where they're still trying to make a name of themselves so they're a little careful and not yet as ambitious when it comes to episodes. if this were to be released on the later seasons, it could have been expanded beyond that rather than just leaving it in the air, again as op said. things like what happened in the summer of '83 getting an explanation or an extra episode could have happened if this was released later on as the series progressed. same goes to your pondering on the consequence of Larry's life getting ruined, putting him back to his lazy lifestyle he was once so known for, we didn't get a view of what had happened next, we're just left to assume that he snapped back and happened to get right back on track, which probably has lead as to why he manages almost all, if not, ALL jobs on Elmore. we then see the consequences of his subsidence in another episode to which you were referring to, which was when Elmore broke into an apocalypse within 20 minutes of Larry calling it quits.

continuation lol- this episode was released when the show was already very popular and had become a staple for cartoon network viewers. they had to be more creative with what they release to keep the show interesting and compelling. this pushes them to explain more about backstories of main and minor characters, giving insights into things that wouldn't normally be explored in the earlier days of the show

I remember watching this episode casually a couple of times and i gotta say i enjoyed it it doesnt portray gumball or darwin in a good light but i dont remember it trying to, last i remembered it was just a fun episode at Larry's expense and while yes that can be considered wrong and mean spirited i personally just consider this one of the funnier episodes

EBReggie It really isn’t. Did you not understand the point of the episode? It is completely obvious Darwin is in the wrong the entire time. And then at the end of the episode, Darwin does it in the wrong way. So it is a role reversal at the end and you get a joke. I just think people took the episode WAY too seriously.

Early Gumball is so different from the later episodes that someone should honestly make a video essay on how much the show changed.

Anias despite being smart really takes a lot from her dad, and that’s being incredibly annoying, taking advantage of Gumball and Darwin and Straining Nicole’s sanity

Now that I think of it... Larry looks like a paper bag (specifically, his head) instead of a rock in this artstyle.

Woahhhhhh I forgot this episode existed! I remember this from when I watched it as a kid, and back then I absolutely adored it. I thought it was the funniest thing to ever grace my eyes lmao I was a weird child

Finding the "worst" episode of gumball is like deciding on the "worst" diamond you could receive from a jewelry store. It's relative but never bad.

i prefer season ones less snarky, more innocent tone. while i realize im kinda alone in that, i do wish it stayed the way it started.

They didn’t tease anything, the summer of 83 is a gag where it’s SUPPOSED to get cut off. They make it really clear. And they don’t owe us a scene for something that’s supposed to be perceived as a joke.

This was my 2nd fave ep from S1. I always liked (envied) the professional laze about. The guy who has such skills in doing as little as possible.

I can't think back of a episode of gumball i truly did hate. One episode i always like coming back to was the episode about the entire family playing Gumball and Darwin's made up game, Dodge or Dare. a Full on episode parodying Jumaji.

LMAO so i just got the joke on around 10:45, where Richard says he'd resort to using his "supernatural abilities" to change the tv channel, which really was just a remote hidden and controlled by his butt cheeks. He does change the channel and causes Darwin to freak out, screaming and yelling out "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY!!!!!" Back to when i first saw this episode years ago, I took this as a reaction, as if he thinks that it's because of the ghostly powers which caused the tv to change, and because Richard says so that he has control over such things. But then you look at the tv screen after it changes, it actually shows a scene of THE Paranormal Activity movie, in which it shows the dark bedroom of the couple through a view of their security camera. It implies that Darwin has come to knowledge of the movie and how scary it is, thus freaking him out. It took me since season 1 to figure it out, and i- i feel old y'all probably figured this out sooner lol

I'm fine with the episode, but it bashes Larry so much he could've been named Squidward 😔😔

I couldn't do this. Season one of Gumball holds a special place to me. I first watched it about the time I was coming back from rock bottom at school. I don't think this is the worst episode because I just can't. Although the episode with the forest of doom? I'd say that's my least favorite since the joke goes on way too long and it's painful.

I’m so used to hear their voices in Swedish so I remember most of the lines in Swedish. A part of the show that’ll always be fun to me is the sun in the episodes “the party” and “the end”, because in the Swedish dub the sun has a Gothenburg accent and it’s so funny. Especially the part in the episode “the end” after the moon or whatever it was sings “Dude, you just got mooned” and the sun is like “What is wrong with that guy”. It’s way more funnier in the Swedish dub tbh. Back in 2015 I started watching Gumball episodes in English on KZread.

The summer of 83 would be a great episode for the reboot

I don’t hate The Laziest at all. In fact, I’d probably put it up as one of my favorite episodes. I just see it as nonsensical fun that doesn’t really have much impact beyond the episode itself.

I tend not to be crazy about episodes that focus primarily on minor characters because the show's given me no reason to really care about those minor characters so they just come off as gimmicky. A major exception to that is The Butterfly because it has a clever way of bringing everything full circle and tying it all together.
