Was it the right choice? Bluebell Photography

I thought I would do something a little different this bluebell season, so I let my audience vote which lens I should shoot with. And you guessed it, the lens of choice was 100mm. But not just the photos, oh no, I filmed the whole video at 100mm also. What a challenge!

The gear I use to make my content (although this is always changing!)
Sony A7iv + 20mm 1.8G - My main KZread camera for shooting out on location.
Canon EOS R8 + 16mm F2.8 + Zhuyin Crane M3 - I use this for a combination of stills and video B-roll
DJI Pocket 3 - Used for videos where I cover a lot of ground
Sony A7iii - this is my primary stills camera that works with native Sony lenses and all my Canon EF lenses on the Sigma MC-11 adaptor
Canon 5D3 - I use this camera when I use my EF glass and there is no benefit in adapting
DJI Mavic Pro 2 - My first drone, and I can’t see me replacing it. It’s amazing for both stills and video
Go Pro Hero 8 - for adverse weather conditions that my other cameras might not survive!
Insta360 - X3 & One inch edition - for 360 degree video and BTS content
Microphones - DJI Wireless Mic, Rode Wireless Go, Rode Lav Go, Rode Video Pro+, Rode Video Micro
Photo Tripods - Sirui ST-124 with Sirui ballhead, Peak Design travel tripod

Great shots Ben! And I watch most YT on my laptop, alone. Shocked you managed to get a successful focus stack on a flower outside as even a fractional breeze will scupper you. I've never managed to use it with success outdoors on natural subjects. Obviously my locations are much windier!

I believe the in camera focus stacking still has each individual RAW file available to you that you could stack yourself in photoshop/helicon etc, after the fact. Great video! I am almost always watching alone.

I enjoy using the 70-200 when out in a bluebell wood. If I think the video will have content in it worth viewing on a large TV (such as many photography videos) then I’ll cast to my TV when the rest of the family are using their own devices. Otherwise I’ll watch on my iPad.

Thanks Andy, I specifically post my videos at the same time every other Sunday so that if anyone does watch my videos on their TV for example, they know that it will be ready for them at the end of the weekend, whereas if I posted them randomly more people would watch when it is convenient and perhaps on mobile devices. My YT stats suggests that most people watch my videos on a Sunday when they are released.

Single watcher here as I imagine most viewers of KZread are. Focus stacking. I shoot Olympus/OM System and we get a combined jpg plus all the RAW files that make it. I take the RAW files in Zerene Stacker and can choose which ones I want to use. This way I can have sharpness where I want it plus the blurred BG.

A bit of both. Usually I watch most videos alone, but when the wife and I go to bed, we watch a video or two, usually of other photographers, but actually we indeed have watched a few of your videos together. Btw, if you do your focusstacking in Lightroom (by "edit as layers in Photoshop", autoalign, autostack, flatten) you'll get a DNG.

The thing with addressing your audience in singular or plural is a bit of a paint point for me. You created the video not just for me, but published it for everyone, that is how KZread works and i just happen to be watching it. The singular form seems to just intensify the para-social relationship aspect of all this which i don't necessarily think is something positive. I even had that in gym class where the trainer addressed a room full of people in the singular form and i feel like they think i am stupid and forget that I'm in a room full of people just because is focus on my workout.

Hi Ben just me and the cat watching he’s hoping a mouse might pop out from the bluebells 😂 my camera doesn’t focus stack in camera but does produce the images to focus stack, so do that after in PS which means you can choose which to include and as Gordon says eliminate any if there was any wind. Perhaps you can extract the raw files from your camera which made up the composite image?
