Playing this in multiplayer on the PS2 was a large part of my childhood. We typically had a house rule banning the Golden Gun and the remote controlled rocket launcher. Great video as always Josh. There's one small (and almost entirely inconsequential) thing I can add. That AIMS-20 wasn't just a "random sci-fi machine gun". Its an actual prototype weapon called the HK OICW. It was all the rage back in the late 90s/early 00s as the "future of infantry weapons". The main barrel is a 20mm airbursting grenade launcher, and the underslung bit is a 5.56mm rifle. And then it was cancelled because someone in the Department of Defense finally came to work sober and went "this is wildly impractical".
@bahamut256

Oh my God, you covered Nightfire. I can't wait to dig into this video! This game was one of those absolutely TREASURED childhood games for me. I have this core memory of me playing Nightfire on my Xbox while waiting for the airships in Final Fantasy 11. Or when I would wait for a group to fill up. I played Nightfire. I know, I KNOW the game isn't the best, and I've watched sooo many reviews on it to feel my nostalgic thirst for an old time favorite. But goddamn, it was my comfort game for a long time. That mission with the snipers, and you crawl through the abandoned power plant. I remember in high school asking my crush out, and her rejecting me. And how I spent that night working through that mission. It's just so baked into my head, this weird dream. Almost liminal how this game was so involved during my high school years. And if I think of playing it while I played Final Fantasy 11, that means it was previous to WoW coming out. WoW gave me a lot of great memories. But WoW didn't come out until after high school. -- I missed that Playstation train, so when people talk about Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy 7, Twisted Steel as their childhood games, I wasn't playing those ones. I had Nintendo. Super Nintendo in elementary school. Mario and Donkey Kong. DK2 has so many elementary school memories. Middle school was Golden Eye, Donkey Kong 3d. Command and Conquer. High School was Xbox, Nightfire, Final Fantasy 11, Warcraft 3. -- I wish Josh Strife would cover Earth and Beyond, because I can't seem to find any good videos covering it. And I played that game for what feels like 3 months before quitting, lol...
i LOVED this game back then intresting to see what josh will say
I remember playing the PC version of this a lot (I didn't have a PS2, Xbox, or GameCube back then). While the PC version did lack the vehicle levels, the levels themselves were larger than the console versions, sometimes slightly, sometimes much more. Another thing is the PC version was MUCH tougher, compared to the console version. One good example is the level title "High Treason" (I think it's called Phoenix Rising on console). This level is VERY long on PC and can easily take many people over an hour. This is that major "difficulty spike" level, especially since there are probably more enemies in this level than probably half or most of the console version. Unlike the console version where you can get out much quicker, it can take a while going through the building. While you don't have to go through every floor, you will have to go through many of them, plus the stairwell which are flooded with enemies. Not saying it's the "hardest" level, but for 1st time players, it could be a challenge if they aren't expecting it. There is one thing that also wasn't said, because the console and PC levels differ, the ordering can change. Example: After the Chain Reaction level, Bond sees the vent, then it cuts to bond on the rook with Kiko. At least this is how THAT level ended for consoles. On PC, THAT bond going into the vent starts a completely different level as Bond infiltrate's the base. It still ends the same at the end with Kiko knocking bond out with the tranquiller dart, but still. Another level is the Airfield Ambush (2nd level). On consoles, I think this was where you used the snowmobile and car, but on PC, you get a stealth section mission (at least the first part). Moving through the base in stealth took me a while back then (I was in my younger teen years). However, I LOVED the sniper section when you have to cover Zoe from the tower with a sniper rifle. I did eventually get the PS2 version years later. I honestly like both versions as each has their own positives. The PC version wasn't as bad as people kept saying. My guess, they played the console version first, when played the PC version, saw there were no vehicle sections on PC so instantly thought it was terrible.
@daminox
12 күн бұрын
I remember the biggest issue with the PC version being the poor bullet hit registry. Granted I've only played the demo, I vividly remember being annoyed at how half my bullets would go right through an enemy without doing any damage. I also read some reviews (such as in PC Gamer magazine) that mentioned this issue being in the full release of the PC version. I dont know how any developer can put out a free demo- which is meant to entice gamers to buy the full product- that causes frustration and anger lol

While me and my friends were too young to really enjoy goldeneye, we had this on gamecube. We played split screen multiplayer on this game so much that the original disc went bad and we had to get a second copy. The amount of time this game took me to beat the harder levels on singleplayer was crazy especially on the harder difficulties. I even found one of the guides for this game recently and ive been tempted to play through it using the guide. Such a nostalgic game for me, and considering it was a franchise tie in game (not specifically for any movie, but the last game in the brosnan line of james bond games I believe) and what a Gem of a game it was. This and Goldeneye are two of the best Bond games. I know people will say agent under fire but Nightfire was better. Also the name is badass. Perfect dark was the upgraded version of goldeneye, with the option to have 8 simultaneous combatants in multiplayer, with 4 humans and 4 bots, and the bots can go to such difficulty, they were literal aimbots, one glance that "blink and you miss", some if not all times you just dropped dead and never knew what killed you so fast But tranquilizers, when applied to humans made their sight blurry, when applied to bots made their aim go haywire and walk randomly (we lovingly named that gun "the dancer")

4 player multiplayer was pretty cool in this game. One of the few games I ever got to see the multitap being used.
It might be worth playing Agent Under Fire for comparison honestly. It followed a lot of the same beats like the gadgets, Bond moves, and the progression between on foot, driving, and on rails levels. The Nightshade character was also first introduced in Agent Under Fire, which is probably why she showed up in Nightfire for five mintues and then disappeared without a trace lol. The multiplayer didn't have the mini vehicles or quite as memorable maps, but it had some crazy modifiers, and you could use gadgets like the grapple phone whenever and wherever you wanted. Flying around with the grappling hook and low gravity turned on was an absolute blast as a kid.

This is an iconic game and I'm glad I still have my PS2 copy. The opening level alone is quite a map to explore in infiltration.
I always liked how Agent Nightshade showed up again after Agent Under Fire. It tied things together nicely.
This was my fav game as a kid I've been waiting on your vids forever I love this series to death :D
Love the series Joshy. Fingers crossed for Beyond Good and Evil Someday
33:39 Josh Strife Haye: You can really picture this being in a Bond Film me: Wactching No Time to Die Stairwell scene
Dude honestly you're one of the only people on this website where I look forward to your uploads
The first two syphon filters blow the OO7 games away IMO
Nice review Almost felt like I played it myself^^ I really hope you will also do Everything or Nothing. Loved that game in my childhood and spend countless hours trying to beat the spiltscreen mode with my best friend(we never did it). Also that was the second best ad I have ever seen in an KZread video :D
Nightfire on PC, at least in multiplayer was really fun back when this game was newly released. I wish this multiplayer experience could come back to 2024 or even 2025.
Damn... I may be "a little bit inebriated" but your voice draws me in like noone else's!!! Since Croc you have cast a spell upon me to never let me escape your gorgeous voice (and loooks). I like how biased and unbiased your reviews are even if I haven't played the game you are talking about. Great work! Please keep at it and have the lovliest day!!
I liked both Agent under Fire and Nightfire. Not because of their singleplayer missions but because of the multiplayer. Agent under Fire was very fun grappling around the maps, setting up mines etc. while we had lots of fun sniper and gadget duels in Nightfire.
I like the implication that josh will leave a can of gamer supps on the ground, walk away, and detonate it in an act of excessive product placement
Mastering the skill of hitting someone with Oddjob's hat from the opposite side of the ski lodge was a crucial part of my childhood.
Been waiting for this to drop Josh ❤ good time to eat cereal and chill 🌙
I remember playing this as a kid at a friends house, andi had so much fun having grappling hook shenanigans. For some reason I always thought it was a different bond game and couldn't find the grappling hook but your line about the skihut map with the minicopters triggered a memory for me lol.
The amount of fine detail you can do in these old games is mind blowing.
I love watching your videos, Josh. I can't express how happy i am that you decided to review this game. in 2005 at age 11, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. During my initial hospitalization my dad brought my gamecube to me and the only game he could find of mine to bring was this, 007 Nightfire. I had tears in my eyes watching some of the scenes from this, remembering my time sitting in a hospital room playing this game for hours and hours. Thank you for doing what you do.
0:53 Nice little jingle you got there Josh.
Ok, hearing the Voice of Rex Manning come out of the face of Remington Steele is just amazing! 🤯

right? when the picture flashed on screen, i had a moment of "wait, is that...REX MANNING?"
I've really enjoyed your videos and I have to say, I was not surprised and even delighted to know that you loved James Bond as a kid. You look like you did! 😂
My brothers and I used to play the splitscreen pvp for hours - usually the skyrail level. This video brought back tons of memories.
I love how they kept the "bond moments"mechanic on Everything or Nothing, IMO the best 007 single player experience.
Great video! I would love a video about TimeSplitters 2
That sponsored segment actually made me laugh. Good job! :D
Bro I freaked out when you mentioned Esthero. i love that artist. Her debut album Breathe from Another is a 90s Trip-Hop classic. Its actually one of the few CD's I own.
josh is such a good content creator. Honestly, every video i watch of his feels like youtube royalty.
Truly one of my favorite games on the PS2(now GameCube). Sometimes I still put in music or a podcast & play for hours.
Nice Remington Steele impression, Josh 👍
During Night Shift, after you tranquilize a guard, you can punch them while they're unconscious on the floor and they will despawn as if they were killed, but it won't count as killing them (making you fail the mission). This makes moving around a lot easier as you only need to take out each guard once.
