I think it's perfectly fine to prefer one game over the other. Minecraft is great and I appreciate the game. I've played it quite a bit. But I prefer Dragon Quest Builders. I like the RPG elements, art style, and sense of purpose. I enjoy it more than Minecraft and haven't touched Minecraft in ages. Others may feel completely differently. And that's cool, too.

Minecraft has a ton more block types, biomes, things that can be built, and barely any limitations. DQB2 has villagers who have jobs and a sense of society, an RPG story that takes center stage. In the end, those things about DQB2 are what make it more appealing to me, despite the limitations. I love creating stuff and watching my villagers use them.

I played Minecraft for a while and eventually kinda gave up on it. It was pretty tedious for me, and I didn't really enjoy mining for hours on end to get the materials I wanted. I also don't have the imagination and patience for large builds. I very much like Dragon Quest Builders 2, and am currently playing through that. I very much prefer the directed experience, and I don't mind the "hand holding" as I don't have much time to play games these days anyways. I do miss the redstone from Minecraft, though - I liked doing things in redstone.

To put things into perspective, if you want to build a roof in minecraft you need to build them out of staircase blocks. Yes, dqb2 is way better for building and creative mode doesnt save minecraft from that criticism. Dqb2 has a huge variety of blocks and minecraft is so limited in that regard.

Probably not as much fun if you played the second one first. Storywise, you're not missing anything if you jump into the second one first, they are not related (besides sharing the same world, kind of). If you played the first, you get one extra headgear in the second, if you finished the first, you get an extra recipe in the second. That's about everything to keep in mind.

Wood, Minecraft has an insane amount of Mods on PC. Some of which include furniture, the ability to cut blocks into any shape, pet dragons, and shapeshifting. And the community can share their unique worlds (the generated map not structures) through "seeds" which is just serial number which sets the world gen rules. Minecraft can literally be any kind of game. Especially with blocks that let you write in game code.

Wood, don't give up on doing something great! Once you get the buildnoculars, it's MUCH easier to make large structures. I felt overwhelmed looking at what other people made, but I've since been working on a large chapel and it's turning out a lot more beautifully than I would have previously thought I could manage. At most you just need to look at some of the other things people did, just to get ideas of creative ways to utilize all the different items. Like for my chapel I'm using stone railing in the WALLS, and making some triple-layered walls so I can have backlit stained glass windows, and all kinds of neat things I wouldn't have even initially thought of trying.

I’ve played both... wasn’t as much of a fan of Minecraft. Sure, your exploration is yours and your story is what you make it... but I really enjoy the story of DQB2, and then it’s end-game is like creative mode in Minecraft, but I enjoy the options available more in DQB2 than I do in MC. I’m also the type who loved building in the Sims. I like making. I don’t need to feel like I’ve mined everything I use to build... it’s more busywork to me than fun... and the fun, for me, is in the building. Of course, creative mode on MC does this, but I feel like I have more options still on DQB2. Not to mention that I prefer the aesthetics. I feel like DQB2 is both a structured story with some aspects of survival and a creative building sim... and MC is a building sim and a survival-gathering game without a story. And I just feel that DQB2 has a little more variety to offer. You still have to gather everything you use throughout the story of the game until you’ve done it enough to know how and for it to have almost gotten to be busy-work, and then you’re moved onto something else. There’s progression and rewards for having done all of those things enough within game, not to have to continue to do them by yourself. Of course, it’s preference... but for the money... and the fact that one of the games has a bit more content and isn’t a game that’s many years old and already on every other platform... I would choose to spend my time and money on DQB2. Tl;dr.

in Dragon Quest Builders 1, it was a bit tougher and somewhat similar to Minecraft, weapons broke constantly, your character could starve to death, the enemies caused damage just by touching them(and the attack range for the character was very small). and when you die you lose a good deal of your items and have to go re collect them where you died... also NPCs would get stuck on ledges if they followed you. But we could make some cool armor to prevent starving and falling deaths.

Now imagine Minecraft being updated with some of the features from Builder. Like a smooth combat system. Convenience features like building walls at once (late game perhaps). Something like the flying car (breeding a dragon after you beat the end dragon would be an obvious choice). Villagers that actually help doing the boring stuff like farming (not that getting food is a problem once you learn how to build a machine that automatically produces cooked chicken).

I had a lot of fun with DQB1, and DQB2 is taken to the next level in multiple ways. Really love it! Don’t get me wrong, there are things I’d fix in DQB2, but makes me really excited to see the series continue as a fun side series to the main Dragon Quest games. I really hope they make DQB3, especially with how much 2 was improved over 1. I was at like 150hrs played when I finished the story. I’m sure I could have knocked it out much much earlier, but I really took my time between doing the various missions and whatnot. But now I’m just getting into free building and the post-game.. I still have lots to do, unlocking stuff on top of just building my island! ✌️😎 To anyone that’s into creative building games like this, I hope you check out DQB2 at some point!

Since minecraft has both a creative and survival mode experience I think it's as good if not better than dqb2 but that's just my opinion
