Everyone has been asking this, so I figured a video would be a good idea. I was not wearing any braces at the time my ACL and MCL were torn.
Here is some info from DonJoy’s website on the Custom A22 Titanium braces that I’m wearing.
Uncompromised engineering delivers the world’s first titanium brace striking the perfect balance of weight, strength and profile.
* Environmental Protection - Anti-microbial coating helps neutralize odor while increasing comfort and soft goods longevity.
* Enhanced Performance Management - Uncompromised engineering delivers the world’s first titanium brace striking the perfect balance of weight, strength and profile.
* Accelerated Comfort - Cushioning cells absorb shock, promote stability and proper fit.
* Freedom to Perform - Aerodynamic integration of straps and liners reduces overall profile which facilitates comfort, speed and cadence.

I ride with Mobius braces and never, ever think about them. Coincidentally, I rode with them today and was bragging about them today. I was bragging that I wear them while I'm riding and they're so comfortable that I then wear them around camp, waiting for the next ride. I've never had them move on me, and I've never had them sweat on me, but, admittedly, I also wear them over under-gear. A guy can get the Mobius for under $400 (for the pair). They're excellent. That said, the videos are excellent. Keep them coming.

I gotta be honest. I own mobius braces. I love them. They fit me great. They are however a tad bit bulky, however they are specifically made for riding. Not walking around or anything. I wear klim lite pants and they are great. I personally would never ride without them. They are my favorite. It is all with preference. Just because he thinks that, doesn’t mean you will.

This is so helpful because I don’t ride dirt bikes but I do work as a stuntman and I need low profile braces and adding pads to them can be rough working many hours at a time. So this added pad that can be purchased with the brace is such a relief!!! 👊🏻😊

I have POD K8 full carbon fibre braces. So many adjustments available in them that you can pretty much have a custom fit feel and they are built to be completely dual sport so the knee cap gaurds can come off making them way lighter and comfortable for every say use. A little more affordable at $1300 CAD for 2. But I love them and never ride without them.

And I ride here in the -hell-on-earth, humid heat of South Carolina. I literally don't think about them when I am on the bike. Just my experience with Mobius. Heal well and fast.

All of the MX knee braces work themselves down, it's really uncomfortable but they've protected me for over 20 yrs not just on my bikes, snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking etc. and I've had plenty of accidents, fortunately, I've never hurt my knees which is a shocker in SX and MX. I've had my hips replaced, shoulders replaced and spine replaced, pins and rods throughout my body but my knees have been great because I started wearing knee braces before any accidents.

I love my DonJoy braces. I got them for college football they are way more comfortable than all the others I’ve tried. I use them when riding dirt bike as well. The one thing I’ve noticed is that you will catch the hinge sometimes on your plastics and frame. You get used to it after awhile. After using them consistently you will probably feel bare without them.

I completely tore my ACL/PCL/Meniscus when riding (without a brace... oooof). I have had many custom braces made over the last 6 years (Ossur, Don Joy etc.). I actually tore my ACL 2 separate times while wearing 2 different custom made Ossur CTI braces. I love my Don Joy! I think I have the beefier version of your custom brace ($2300 vs. $800), but it's the only one I trust my knees too. Well worth the cost and pain of going through multiple knee surgeries you could avoid! I have probably crashed hard 20+ times while wearing my Don Joy and know for a fact that my knee would have torn completely again with any other brace. As a bonus, Don Joy paints your brace with heavy-duty paint and they look good for a long time. I definitely agree with your comment about the CTI being inadequate for motocross and even trail riding. I have been able to convince my insurance to pay for my braces because they understand the $2300 cost is going to be less than more surgeries (they usually agree after significant fighting and back-and-forth).

I have the mobius x8s and wear the compression knee sleeves with them and don't notice them being too hot. Of course my temps are not always in the 80°F+ range when riding, only sometimes. Did you wear knee sleeves when trying them? The foam padding next to skin will make them hotter, skin cannot breathe etc. Agree they are kind of bulky, I wasn't too sure about them when first I got them but I forget about them after a little while. I have one or two pair of older pants that are too tight to fit the braces in but I've quit wearing those pants anyway.

The problem is, those complaints are made up. They are not hot with proper underwear, they fit in your pants, you may just have to buy the next larger size with some of them. And the level of protection and comfort they provide is excellent. Good luck riding motocross in that thin patella covers from Don Joy. He paid big bucks for them and now wants to justify his choice.

Great vid with an actual real life test for the Donjoy. I’m sure it’s everything you said it is. Personally being a Mobius and EVS bracelet owner. I can tell you that the EVS felt more robust and during squeezing the tank, I couldn’t feel stress on the LCL, I do with the Mobius. If the number two harness is in or below your knee crease, you’re not aligning it correctly. On Mobius, make sure that your knee is at 90° and push it firmly from the #1 strap area. Then tighten the #1 strap up as high as you can comfortably fit it. Now the #2 harness will be above the incorrect position where it was in the knee crease. Fastening the #1 strap as described is the key to stopping migration. I ride 5 to 6 hours days or longer and don’t experience any migration but I don’t notice the heat. Maybe I’m just used to it?

If you look at 2.43 you can see that the straps of the Don joy brace are much higher. One of the main features of the mobius brace is the x wire system. That is designed to help protect your knee against over extension injuries. With the Donjoy you won't get that benefit because there is nothing stopping the back of your knee coming out of the brace and over extending your knee.

  • @JoshStreetDesign

not true, because the DonJoy is an over under design, the Mobius is not. Ask me how I know as I sit here with a completely destroyed knee from wearing Mobius. All other knee braces with out the over under design is basically just a pimped out guard.

I would have to disagree with most of this entirely. I've been wearing Mobius X8 braces for about a year (around 65 riding hours) and I think they are incredible. If they are uncomfortable or too hot for you, I'd say you either got the wrong size off the bat and/or didn't fit them correctly with the interchangeable pads they come with. When I bought mine, I had to change some things around to make them fit well and comfortably, but they come with easy to follow directions on how to do it. I also wear stance moto socks under them which help with comfort. If they feel tight or bound up when you sit on the bike and bend your knee, you may have been putting them on wrong on top of them not being fitted right. You are supposed to secure them with your knee bent as if you were sitting on the bike, then snug them slightly after that. I've had various close calls and I feel that these braces saved and protected me every time, and I personally don't even notice that they are there. I have a few friends that have them that love them as well. Its also hard to compare braces that are $600 for a pair to braces that are going to end up being $1800 for a pair. I'm not just trying to be a naysayer, just want another opinion out there for anyone who may be considering getting them.

Thanks for the comment. You disagree that I like the Don Joy brace better in every way :) I even worked with the owner of Mobius and sent him my measurements when ordered his braces last year, so I know I got the correct size. I'm glad you like your Mobius braces. IMO, they don't compare and I won't be wearing an off the shelf style brace any longer. Custom fit, custom built is the only way to go for me since fitment is everything.

Okay I will say this right now I bought leatts full length underarmor style design pants that fold up over the brace to reduce the falling down effect. Fixed all the problems I had with my braces I still have to make sure set the pants correctly but that is a minor inconvenience. I still wear my braces at all times I would rather be hot and burn more calories riding than not be protected. Also I bought moose Sahara gear this helped with the heat issue so a few things I have found cost be less the 1800 dollars. Also after I stepped off my bike recently at 30 to 35 in a wheelie I would say my mobius braces do there job no knee injury and I walked away without a scratch

SO TRUE! I had the mobius and it was really tough getting on and off the bike and I’m 6’2”. I could barley swing my leg over the seat because they wouldn’t flex much. Hey bud I tore my acl in my left and right knee. I tore my right knee first door arenacross in New York when i was 16 . Had surgery got prescribed a cti 2 custom knee brace. Did my rehab started racing again and went to unidilla national and tore my left acl not wearing a brace on that knee. So went through surgery and everything and got a cti custom brace for that knee as well. In my opinion they àre great braces but I'll tell ya I could not keep those things in place for the life of me. I was constantly pulling them up. I beat the crap out of them and they stayed together. I was do for New ones and I looked into the Donjoy defience 3 custom braces. I went to the doctors office who performed my operations and he just wrote me out a prescription for both left and right braces. Got à cast made of each knee and had both braces in like a month free of charge other than my custom paint job and the knee cap protectors. I'll tell you these donjoys are so comfortable . They do not migrate at all . If your looking for good quality braces I would go with donjoys or cti. With the cti braces don't be shy if they don't fit or stay in place speak up right away to get the best fit. With the cti bràces I didn't speak up because they were my first braces and figured they all did that. But if you have a cool knee doctor have him write u out a prescription for whatever braces you choose and your insurance should cover the chàrge.

I do suggest some light tape over the straps to avoid the tightness from backing off on 6 hour rides. I also ride in the blazing heat and they are totally fine and I my body temp runs hot. Knee heat is the last thing on my mind. Protection is key and I dont mind investing but $2,000 to outfit both knees with braces and the pads is tough but I'd be interested in doing a comparison review.

The biggest complaint I've had with the braces I've had asterisk cell, and now fox pods. Is they're so damn bulky you don't feel like you can grip the bike as well. If those donjoy's are smaller with better protection ill be getting fit for a set.

  • @DmitriyAdv

I have the Donjoy defiance custom and it is amazing. I've had a bunch of other braces and the Donjoy fits far better than any of them. It's incredibly strong, light, and comfortable. I've had it on for 12-14 hours a day during gnarly dual sport rides and barely notice it's there. The Donjoy patella protector is garbage however. I really don't like how they attach to the brace and I feel like the impact brace fitment. I ended up using some Leatt knee/shin guards that I just wear over the brace. They're a bit more bulky, but they are a lot more comfortable and protective.

I wear mobius braces and they are really comfortable. No problems with heat for me. Do you wear anything under your braces? That makes a huge difference. For an off the shelf brace they are really good IMO. If I was to get a custom set of braces for riding then I would definitely go with CTI.

I guess I'll throw in my .02. I wear the Mobius X8 knee braces with Fox Flexair gear. I live in Phoenix, AZ and it gets a little hot here in the summer (insert sarcasm). I ride in the desert/ Enduro's, Mountain climbs. IDGAF how hot it is (TBH I don't even notice it). The Mobius to me is the most protective knee brace there is, and gives me confidence while riding (I've had just about every off the shelf knee brace you can buy). If you can afford the Don Joy or CTI custom (without using insurance) great. If not, then in my opinion the Mobius are not that bulky or hot. Of course all of this...is just my opinion

Sorry about your injury. I am on month 14 on a ripped apart achilles, and just broke a couple few bones in my other foot. Frustrating stuff. I can probably ride after 10 days of that, but none of my boots fit, foot is too swollen... You can get something called a "Fit Board" to continue to work your muscles, which you will lose if you don't work on them. You can also swim. I tore a calf muscle due to my achilles rupture, about 4-5 months after the original injury due to weakening of muscles. I'm 50 yrs old, so the recovery time of injury is all a sudden more noticeable. All that said? I never quit riding, I was off roading the day after my achilles tear. I couldn't walk, but I could ride...

Tore my ACL less than a month ago riding while wearing my custom CTi braces. I had the #2 wedge (There are 5 levels to adjust extension) in the hinge at the time of the crash. Strain MCL and PCL, minor lateral meniscus tear. I have had a Donjoy brace for my left knee from tearing that ACL in my teens. It fit well, however it does not have a comfortable knee cup. The design hasnt changed much in 20 years for the knee cup to be improved. I like my CTi braces but I recommend the #3 wedge. The #4 wedge is too much. The #2 was clearly not enough to prevent hyperextension. My knees had a natural hyperextension from birth so part of it is case by case. But I would rather go without a helmet than knee braces at this point. That's how bad this sucks

Kyle, now that you've been back into the swing of riding again I have no doubt that you are wearing your DonJoy's for every ride. I have a few questions post second time around. 1. Are you using the DonJoy Patella knee cup with the shin guard or have you moved on to some other type of knee guard? 2. Your right leg has undoubtedly gained muscle mass by now. Have you had any reason to have your leg remeasured and a new brace re-fitted? 3. Could you make a follow up video about the brace and how it feels to be using it in everyday riding situations?

Dunno about Mebius, but I use Asterisk Ultra Cell brace and have zero issues with comfort, heat or their bulk. It's put on and forget. Yeah you need to choose pants accordingly but in these days it's not a problem at all. Also Asterisk has bigger "arms" that wrap around the leg than mebius or that custom brace has. And it's a very good thing as bigger arms mean less chance of brace rotating at impact and not doing it's job. Also you MUST wear some kind of sleeve under your brace, it's day and night difference in comfort level. Asterisk came with one but it can be easily made out of old base layer.

I’ve wore knee braces along time I’ve always used cti one of my friends uses Don Joy I’ve had minor injuries with my braces one he has has torn his acl with his braces on. I’m not saying cti is better just that the one thing knee braces have a hard time doing is preventing twisting motion injuries both of our injuries have been when you toe hooks something and your foot turns backwards. My injury broke my lower leg which the brace can’t prevent, his torn his acl. One thing Don Joy offered him was 1000$ insurance if you tear an acl or mcl while wearing there braces.

This is one of the first videos I've ever 'disagreed' with you on. You are correct that fit is everything, and with every person being unique, it's inevitable that some products won't work as well for some people. That said, your complaints with the X8 sound completely alien compared to my experiences, and the experiences of many friends of mine. I've never heard anyone complain of them being too hot, and we ride in 95+ degree, humid-as-hell NC. They are "bulky" compared to regular knee guards, but the very easy fix is to buy pants with extra leg room to fit. I've had a half dozen pairs of pants since I got mine, and all fit without issue. Same with my friends. As for the fitment, they are "off the shelf", but they literally come with a dozen different pads to get the fit where they need to be. It did take me several rides to get everything dialed in, but once I did, I completely forget about them for the day. Will they be as good as a custom set that cost 3-5x as much? Certainly not, but mine fit darn good, and I have no issues with articulation at all. So while your issues with them sound very real, and your praises of custom braces sound very plausible, the fact is that the overwhelming majority of riders will be well served by something off the shelf like the Mobius X8s. I think you're the exception here, not the rule.

@@DirtBikeChannel a helmet feels hot and bulky. Would you ride without one? I have to agree with the above, seems a tad silly to own braces and not wear them. We only have one pair of knees and even after an operation, no joint is ever the same again. The reality for most riders is that it's a stretch affording the mobius, let alone custom braces.

We are all beginners and hope to make this a life long activity to do together. I’m buying gear for everyone and am having a hard time finding knee braces that fit them based off the websites fitment specs. My 6 yr old is way to skinny and isn’t into any of the knee braces yet as far as size goes. My 10 yr old is right in between the Youth PODs and my 11 yr old is in an adult XXL. Do you have a recommendation as to kids knee braces? Would you even use them at the very beginning? I have the pod k4 braces now used with a set of asterisk knee brace pants and they are absolutely amazing. Any brace is better than no brace but you should have tried a different pair if you were not pleased with the mobius!
