16 was a slightly above average execution of a direction I don't want. The world had tremendous potential, but it felt underbaked. Clive was a really good, but not great character. I really don't want them chasing the action style, but that is my preference and clearly they want to focus on action. The underdeveloped side characters is sad. The icon fights are amazing, but that is the only stand out content. This game is fine, but its not what I want from FF. SE can keep being confused about under-performance while Atlus and others steal their lunch

I liked the game a lot but what really annoyed me about it was the gearing system, fetch quests, and lack of good rewards for exploring. In games like FF 4 and FF 6, hell even FF 9 exploring the dungeons usually resulted in getting better equipment.

Started off really enjoying it and my opinion rapidly changed during the 2nd half of the game. These were my main issues. Bleak & Bland world setting, boring side content, uninteresting villain, lack of party, lack of interesting side characters and there was no worthwhile exploration in the game. It missed many key features of a great final fantasy.

I wouldn’t say it was a failure, but it’s quite underwhelming both as an rpg and a hack n slash game knowing just how many talented people worked on this For something that regularly gets compared to the likes of Devil May Cry and Kingdom Hearts, I found the combat and enemy design, especially bosses to be quite limited and repetitive. I'm still not a big fan of the ending, the main villain, how some of the characters were handled, the lack of rewarding exploration and RPG mechanics, the MMO style fetch quests that added very little beside stopping the pacing of the story to a halt, Clive's normal sword combo strings being so limited, Ifrits moveset being *even* more limited, and the use of a mechanic as unengaging as cooldowns in a fast paced hack n slash game I can admit it is a well made and polished game that succeeded at some of things it tried to do I liked most of the cast and some of the themes were compelling Making you pay $25 DLC for a $70 game also rubbed me off the wrong way, just because it is normalized in modern gaming didn't make it any better, especially since it added such little content compared to some of the other DLC from Square Enix for their games like KH3 or FFOrigins, i expected them to be better than this i do believe this is a fairly high quality game that a lot of people would enjoy, I just still find it aggressively middle of the road both as a JRPG and a hack n slash game

FF16 is not a bad game, but it is not a good Final Fantasy imo. I think it lacks a lot of what makes an FF game (parties, non-action combat, classes, etc) This game to me feels more of an action game with an FF skin/flavor, it should not have been a main entry.

Gonna pre-face with that I haven't played FFXVI (don't have a PS5). But the game had some big hurdles before it even got released. I'll list what I think they are below: 1. Square-Enix has burned a lot of its good faith with fans with "lackluster" titles since FFX and even FFIX for some fans. 2. PS5 is still a system not a lot of people have (see above). 3. Games are now 70 USD or more so people are selective with purchases. I mean Zelda, Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, Madden 24, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Jedi Survivor all dropped within a few months of XVI as well as... 4. FFVII Rebirth being right around the corner. Most people probably skipped it to wait for Rebirth. 5. Turn-based is still great for a lot of people and the departure hard for some to swallow. Especially when you have modern turn based JRPGS that are thriving like the Trails series. 6. Fan-fare around the game was not large. I really didn't see a lot of ads or videos about the game until maybe a month or 2 before launch and barely any after launch.

I am an absolute die hard trails fan but to say the series is thriving is just not true. The entire series has sold less copies worldwide then FF13 has, and 13 is considered to be one of the worst. Critically it’s thriving sure but absolutely not commercially. Also almost all the games you listed didn’t come out the same month, they came out the same year

If it gave me a diverse cast of party members that had chemistry, comedy, and tragedy as they bonded and work to overcome their own personal backstories together, I would have thought it was great. Let me PLAY with these characters, develop my own personal bonds to them, find fun combat synergies and make them feel like iconic FF jobs. Put those elements into this mature style of world and I think it would have done much better. Because to me, thats what make Final Fantasy special.

Others have mentioned it below, but since you asked, while FF16 is a return to form story wise in comparison to FF15, its lackluster in so many other areas. I enjoyed the combat, but the pacing of the story was horrendous. I like to explore the worlds of the games I play but FF16’s world, while beautiful, had very little to show me. Half the sidequests were super boring. I admit that some had very powerful moments, but the actual gameplay of the fetch quests put me to sleep. Finally, the gear customization and rewards for completing quests felt extremely dry. I could go deeper, but I don’t want to rag on the game too much. It’s really is a good game, but it leaves a lot of to be desired. It has me asking: what do ppl consider “final fantasy”? What does Square consider “final fantasy”? I wouldn’t say FF16 isn’t a final fantasy game, but it’s such a radical departure from what the series used to be that I struggle to understand what makes a game “final fantasy” anymore other than a few summons and a title

I feel quite the same, people say this game has good character development but Clives arc ends way to early, Jill goes from guilt ridden love interest to boring love interest. Joshua completely changes (naturally) but is somehow less of a character than his 10 year old self. Cid and Benedickta die too early and rest get their "development " after an exposition dump at the end of their side quest.

The problem with 16 is it’s FF Lite trying to cater to a fanbase that doesn’t like FF so they tried to make it more casual. The gameplay is the nail in the coffin and is completely at odds with the world and story. FF used to be an innovator but now it’s desperately reaching for trends in an attempt to stand next to much bigger franchises and it’s failing objectively according to the poor sales.

Obviously while I know FF7 Rebirth and its direction (minus the story, no hate) is probably the more preferred approach when moving the series forward. But even then I wouldn’t mind if a new FF game or even a new IP that Yoshi P and Creative Studio 3 would take what worked and didn’t work in this and improve upon it. As there’s a solid foundation I feel with this game.

Personally i felt the story tackled a lot of themes in a very shallow way. the combat isnt that deep as the build craft doesn't really do more than force you to repeat the same moves because theres not really a need for a specific build outside mob builds and boss builds. The characters get some development but i feel the blacksmith quest shouldve been the standard not the except in quest design. Also Jill sucks, she's the love interest who was traumatised by a cult nation. After the ironblood are destroyed shes just the love interest. It kind of lessens their relationship to me because i cant see them as friends because i cant see jill as her own person.

After playing through FF7Rebirth, it makes FF16 look even worse in my eyes. There is no fun party dynamic or humor at all. Compare how you feel about Aerith to Jill by the end of the story. The combat is very simplistic (no elemental weaknesses or strategy really needed). And it doesn’t even let you play on hard to start. The open world areas are quite bland & empty. There is little RPG customization. You can’t enter many buildings and there aren’t many towns so you have little connection to the world. The Eikon battles are gorgeous but not particularly challenging & QTE-heavy. Its best characters are gone too early (Cid, Benedikta, Kupka). It’s not a bad game, and Clive is one of the best FF protagonists period. But there’s no way this cast & world will resonate with people like FF6, 7, 9, 10.

The only thing wrong with the game is sometimes the enemies/bosses feel like tanks. Having to wail on them for long periods of time gets a bit exhausting to me personally. This is the same with FFVII Rebirth/Remake too. That said I don't know what the perfect balance and execution for that would be. Other than that I felt the game was perfect. Incredible story and character developement. Side mission structure I hear some had issues with but not me. One of the best Final Fantasies in the series. Characters, music, story, and fun gameplay. People complain about everything these days... I mean Remake and Rebirth catered towards the fans a TON and people have massive complaints about those games too. Can't make everyone happy. The whole 'notmyfinalfantasy' thing is a bit overboard though. Nothing about this needs to a movement or a protest lol

16 solidified to me that final fantasy as a brand needs to utilize branching spin-offs like what atlus is doing with smt series. if 16, tactics, tactics ogre are piled together to a spin-off series, it would make much more sense. it would also alleviate the biggest concerns it received such as not being rpg enough and having no party members. it could pull out its own thing because it is its own spin-off series. 7 by itself has become a spin-off series by itself; audiences, whether they actively noticed it or not, knows that 7 has a bunch of games and media attached to it and almost akin to a spin-off series. dissidia is another spin-off branched series and before square enix passed that series to a third party developer, the two first entries were perfect. whatever the marketing team told the public, i have always seen the kingdom hearts series as a final fantasy spin-off branch. then they could also make a spin-off branched dedicated to classic final fantasy ala fantasia. they should really rethink and retry their original thought process for "fabula nova crystallis". the problem with that was not the idea itself but their execution if it. if 13 landed better, and better i mean 7r and 16 levels of better, it could have worked. heck, if they continued the original vision of versus 13 and not rebrand it as 15, id even dare say that it could have saved the entire "fabula nova crystallis" spin-off branched series. their statement that "final fantasy is a big, grand adventure that pushes tech to its limit" could always be justified by reserving the main line numbered to that, a game that has the biggest budget, bigger than life entry with the bearing of the "grand" final fantasy brand. they really just have to admit that final fantasy as a brand and franchise has become too big, out of control, that they have to swallow their ego and lower their pride for it

Simply put, the game was just incredibly boring. Sure, the cool bits were cool, but boring bits were REALLY boring. The combat system was fine, but it never evolved into anything, you just got more skills. The Arcade mode's ranking system could've been a cool addition to regular combat; to spur you to do things as stylishly as possible, like in Devil May Cry. Also personally I hated the cinematic QTE stuff in fights. They really watered fights down and killed any hype for me. They were especially bad in Eikon fights. QTE's aren't inherently bad, but in XVI they were as pointless as it can get.

I've never played a FF game (though I own a few). I have watched other people play through FF XVI several times. What I liked about it most is the story and characters. I really vibe with the main Clive and Joshua story. Everyone loves Cid, Gav, and somewhat Benedikta. I enjoyed Dion and his family issues. And that ending makes me cry every time. People have compared the setting and story to Game of Thrones and I agree with that comparison in a good way. I don't even mind the villain and his motivations. All of the voice work and visuals were stellar. And, of course, Torgal best boi. However, reasons why I don't think I would enjoy playing the game myself: 1) enemies and combat seem kinda repetitive (coming from someone who does like action games), 2) you only really get to play as Clive which seems limiting compared to other FF games, 3) the world looks mostly empty of content in between settlements or combat set pieces, 4) lack of big incentives to keep leveling and playing into end mode or new game plus, 5) the environments also got repetitive and boring after a while.

The open world approach does not need to be in every game, and honestly just throwing it into a game can feel lazy these days if it’s not implemented well (personally I’m not a huge fan of the Rebirth approach, it really ruined the pacing for me even though I know a lot of the content is optional). My main issue with XVI was how most of the side quests were so meaningless, there were good side characters and some very impactful ones but tons of glorified fetch quests.

16 is a amazing movie, and ok game in my opinion. The battle system was lacking complexity but the mini boss battles were the complexity part. In ff14 has this problem, it simplify jobs so anyone can play them optimally and the complexity comes from boss/mini boss fights with full of mechanics and etc. The issue came from Clive being too op for the bosses and the mechanics were not fast enough or frequent enough to cause a challenge. Plus the whole open world is not an open world, quest were super boring, and almost no memorable scenes besides eikon battles.

I think their time ended too soon and fast and there was no lasting impact. Another thing is if we could have issued commands to the other party members as well but hey, over all, I still give the game a solid 8.7 out of 10z

The game isn't perfect, but I don't feel that diminished what this game does so well, and how it harkens back to classic FF whilst providing a new gameplay experience for fans. I think it perfectly represents what FF as a franchise stands for even if it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I certainly enjoyed what it brought to the table while keeping that spirit and feel of FF alive more than ever.

I have mixed feelings on FF16, I like it and don't like it but I do have to say that the bad does really outweigh the good and I understand why a lot of people just straight up don't like it at all. It's fine for a game to have flaws but FF16 has way too many flaws that are just so unjustifiable. There's only a few things that I like about the game so here's some of the issues that I have with the game (most of this is a copy/paste but is very long lmao): The pacing of the game was so off. The 13 year time skip is completely understandable but to this day I still don't understand the 5 year time skip. I also thought it was ridiculous that none of the characters personalities or even appearances except for Clive's even changed after the 5 year time skip. There's also no explanation as to why Joshua stays away from Clive for those additional 5 years. Literally none of the other characters again except for Clive even get to shine on their own and we don't learn much about their stories or why they are the way they are. It's like they all only exist for Clive's development and I find that so insulting to the characters and a complete waste of them. Out of all of them though, I'd say Jill was without a doubt the character that was done the dirtiest and I'm sure everyone knows why. Unfortunately, the only character that we see all of the other characters bond with is Clive and they get no other meaningful connections with anyone else The side quests except for the endgame quests were repetitive, boring, and unrewarding. All of them were either just fetch/kill quests. Even main story stuff is repetitive. You go destroy a crystal/stop an antagonist, come back to base, do crappy side quests and repeat that throughout the whole game. The loot you find in the game is not that great The gameplay was way too easy (I didn't die a single time in my playthrough) and the design of it is lazy because it didn't have much enemy variety, no enemy weaknesses/strengths. The other characters in your party are completely useless and hardly do any damage in battle and what's even more ridiculous about the gameplay and is probably the stupidest thing that I've ever seen in an FF game is that the characters in your party are immortal and can never be incapacitated in battle. What the actual fuck is that? It makes no logical sense for any party member whether they're playable in the game or not to have eternal fucking health. Whoever designed the gameplay for FF16, you deserve to be fired for that reason alone, I don't care. The game has an unnecessary ambiguous ending, but the game still gives off an obvious hint that Clive dies from the curse. I don't really see a point in ambiguous endings unless the game is going to have more somehow, and if Clive is dead then I think that throws part of his character development out of the window. Part of Clive's character arc is about him living and there's even multiple characters in the game especially Joshua, Jill and even Cid scolding him to save himself. What was the point in all of that only to have him die in the end? What purpose does having an ambiguous ending like this serve? They also threw part of Clive's arc out by bringing Joshua back. That "accept the truth" part of the game doesn't really hit as hard as it does when you first play anymore now that we know that Joshua is alive. They also didn't even develop Clive and Joshua's relationship that much after they reunite despite their relationship apparently being the most important one in the game. The developers could've done a lot better than this. Such a wasted potential, and I think it's hilarious that the developers pretend that they don't know why the game didn't sell to their expectations. You know, I think if they had just given what the fans wanted for the DLCs, it's possible that that alone could've saved the game. They admitted that they knew what the fans wanted before the DLC even came to be but they didn't care what people wanted, and look what happened lmao. Hardly anyone even played it, and I'm glad because that's also what they get for lying about what the DLCs were going to be about. To me, the game was going well at the beginning, but it just went downhill after the 5 year time skip. As for your question as to whether the game was a failure, I'm gonna have to say both yes and no, but mostly yes.

I loved the story (with exceptions), but the gameplay was a little easy, even Final Fantasy mode. I didn't like the supposed ignorance Clive had about being Ifrit and killing his brother. I also hated that it had to be a sad ending. It seems everything in this type of story has to be a depressing ending, now. It didn't even really make sense with the other characters who died through magic use, unless you think the removing of all magic took that much energy from Clive. I haven't dug into the arete stone, because FF is mainly about the story to me. I liked the Eikon battles, to a degree, but they were so different from the main gameplay, it was difficult to adjust. I am typing this as the video plays, so sorry for the subject changes.

No elements or status effects were in the game which made the gameplay kinda of easy to broke some skills. Final I had no problem with just playing with Clive however it would have been nicer if we were able to play with other characters or at least give them combat command like his wolf.

When I finished I ranked it Mid Upper level in the series. I think it does a lot really well, and to it's credit - it does everything it's trying to do and be fantastically. I went through it trying to play and enjoy it for what it was, rather than what I wanted it to be, or what I felt a Final Fantasy should be. I had a lot of concerns going into the game, and while many were alieviated during playthrough, a lot of them were kinda always there. For example, I didn't feel it was as "dark and grim" as people had said, I full on expected Game of Thrones levels of swearing for example but it was still pretty chill and just regular dialogue, but I did feel it was a little bit lacking in Final Fantasy charm, part of which came from taking itself very seriously. I wasn't a huge fan of the cast overall, Clive is a great character with a great portrayal and his seriousness isn't the issue, it's that everyone else around him is super dour and serious too most of the time - Cid excluded (but, well IFYKYK) Combat, I felt was enjoyable and satisfying but also felt very one note, every enemies, mini boss, major boss, Eikon, Final Boss, were beaten using essentially the same strategy and there's no variation in the battles, so no matter how satisfying it felt like repeatedly eating a delicious lasanga. I felt this especially coming off the back of Remake then later playing Rebirth, where you still get satisfying action but also a lot more tactical thought. There's a version of FF16 in my head, that will never happen but that's my writer's brain at work. Overall I did enjoy the game for what it was... but I also felt it lacked as a Final Fantasy.

My problem with the game was that the majority of it was bland. The icon battles were hype and unique, but the majority out outside of that was just dull. The game wasn't just visually gray, but tonally. Towns weren't unique, character designs were dull, and the story was trying to take itself way too seriously, so it lacked a lot of the usual goofiness you'd run into in an FF game. Yoshi P didn't even want Choco bo's and Moogles. It's so weird how much of a contrast it is compared to XIV, which has everything from every game, but also it's own unique and hyper diverse identity. FF16 in many cases is good, but it's arguably the worst FF in some regards. The equipment: This has, by far, the worst equipment system of any FF. Outside your starting accessories, about 90% of the accessories are, increase ability damage by 10%, or reduce cooldown time by 10%, roughly the same thing. There are no weapons that have any appreciable difference between damage and stagger. There is no equipment that has appreciable difference between HP and armor. You have one character, with effectively two stats, and barely any customization with the accessories outside a few pieces. The crafting: Basically, because of how garbage equipment upgrades were, and how you'd craft the best equipment to progress a few minutes into the story to be given better equipment than what you crafted, this was by far the worst and least rewarding crafting system of any FF. Exploration: Related, the open world sucks, to me, by far the worst open world. Due to the aforementioned equipment and crafting sucking, there is no incentive to go out and explore once all that set in. The little shinies that you pick up are a pittance of gold or some crafting stuff that's functionally useless due to how bad crafting is or already having more than enough. Fighting mobs becomes annoying after a period of time, especially ones that have stagger bars and take a long time to take down for minimal rewards. 15's open world in comparison was significantly better just because the stuff you found actually mattered. The Dungeons: You know how people constantly hold up FF13 as being a corridor simulator? 16 is significantly worse. Garland's Castle, the very first dungeon in FF1, has more branching paths than any dungeons in 16. Seriously, go through a dungeon, map it on a 2D space, and you'll find that it's nothing but corridor-fight area-corridor-fight area-corridor-boss area, where if you're lucky you'll get two corridors that quickly wrap around to the same spot. Its obfuscated by the lack of a mini-map, intentionally I would imagine, but after a long period of time this wore on me Leveling: First, gold is useless outside they very early part of the game where you don't have gold to replenish your potions and need to suicide to get health back. Second, leveling sucks when you get to the mid 40s, where it becomes such a massive grind that it disincentivizes you from leveling. The Eikon Skill system is nice at the start, but once you reach the mid-game, it becomes useless, because you'll always have enough AP for whichever skills you want, and then eventually you'll reach a plateau where you can mix/match between eikons, but there isn't a steady progress. Compare this to say, FF12, where the LP system makes it so killing even low level mobs always benefits you, until the point you cap LP near the end of the game. The Hunts: There's a point where I realized that every single hunt was just a reskin of a regular mob/boss, and basically the same mechanics with a couple twists thrown in. I didn't hate this, but having played through 12, 13, and 15 shortly after, and even 10's monster creation and Rebirth's elite enemies, this just feels significantly less rewarding than other FF games. The Story's Darkness: While I really like the story, there was a point where, I just couldn't care anymore because of how dark everything was. Uncle Byron was by far the best character in the game because he was the only source of amusement in the entire game. I loved the characters, but it became hard to care when everything was, lets make everyone as miserable as fucking possible. And here's the thing: I liked the combat, I loved the characters, I thought there were parts of the plot that were better than any other FF or game, where it peaked as high as any other game. But so much of the small stuff was just, horrible, to the point it dragged down the entire game for me.

I started with FF VII but I have played all of the main games from 1 to 16 and Rebirth and Remake. I have not played 11 or 14. I have been gaming since the ATARI 2600. It was one of the most interesting dynamics in all of gaming for me, and it was what was basically motivating me to keep playing in the first half of the game. The reunion was amazing. And then they dropped it. It was like the developers didn't know where to take Clive and Joshua after the reunion. No explanation of why Joshua AVOIDED Clive the entire time. If it was because Joshua didn't want to be near Clive after getting Ultima, Joshua certainly didn't seem to mind that after the reunion. It was so bad I stopped playing after Clive met the Odin guy and just looked up spoilers. Clive and Joshua are the central characters to the story. They drove it. Then by their reunion that bond is effectively gone and they never try to rebuild something new. This makes bringing back Joshua very lame because he only takes away from Clive's arc of self forgiveness .

No it is not a bad game. It is just absolute mediocrity in rpg deparment. All the things you praise for example, I think they did at best, well, pretty well. Story and the epic nature was the best thing and the linearity worked for this title. Characters were just okay. Clive and Cid best ones. No game has just a disrespectful amounts of issues, especially if you consider this as a Final Fantasy title. Items and the world exploration is non-existent. No game series has as great of a beastiary as FF, way this game used is same creatures over and over and over, is just gaming development at is laziest, Yes, combat is, okay. Fun at times. And super easy, holding hands easy. And no, I played max and without any helping items. I think this game just like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, are prime examples of players just not appreciating true passion in gaming development. Both are just 6-7 grade games, 16 8ish at times. Same time something like Trails Into Reverie, or Yakuza games show what jrpgs can be. While SquareEnix stumbles with Final Fantasy. And no, this is not good starting point as FF game, bc newer players will find it hard to go back to earlier games, thinking this is the streamline FF.

No, it's not OK that they changed turn based battles. It's not the same game anymore.

I thought it was a decent game, but it was a garbage “final fantasy game”. I don’t like major changes in my franchises so when I saw it was action battle system once again I decided to wait for post Christmas mega price drops to pick it up and even then I didn’t play it for another couple months after buying it. I want Final Fantasy to play like it did for the first 10 entries. I have not been happy with anything after FF10. I loved 11/14 but I don’t think they should have been numbered games. If devs have an idea for something diff then it should be a new IP. FF should be turnbased/atb/ctb with a world map etc.

It’s a shame people bag on 13. I hated 13 when it released too too but it’s the most challenging FF game and become one of my favorite. I just played it this year. 16 felt dishonest to me. It’s not a real FF game.

FF16 was definitely an S tier FF. But I can see why people say it doesn’t feel like FF combat wise, I think the devs should have included combat options that were defining on old titles like Fira-Firaga evolution, bio, poisona, dispel, haste… it feels like they could have integrated those options but opted for them not to be included. Oh, also the side quests, I can see why people hated them. Other than that, one of my top FFs for sure

It definitely not S tier to me. It's near FF13 to me on my list which is at the very end. Yoshi-P intentionally created the game without them and proceeded to lie to the public why this and that couldn't be implement. Yet a game developed after FF16 called FF7 remake was able to do everything FF16 didn't and more. With the release of Rebirth they added those double-tech into the battle mechanic which only has embarrassed Yoshi-P and his crew further this includes exploration of the world and side quests so much so people were getting sick of it because there were too many which is a good thing and with the release of part 3 of FF7 remake we'll have the ability to fly in the airship. Almost everything Yoshi-P has said has been one lie after another. While I never bothered to get the DLC of FF16 I heard you can control one of the party members? If this is true that proves further the guy is a liar.

RPGs are defined by beign story driven and by having growth mechanics for its characters. FFXVI fails on these aspects. Its story, on general terms as you've described it, seems well written, but in reality it was poorly executed and without heart. FFXVI has bad dialogues, weak characters that don't mean anything for the gamer, a disastrous growth system for Clive, etc. I personally hated this game so much that had to suddenly stop playing it after the Jill volcano chapter, where she suddenly had to stay in the infirmary while we discovered that Otto had a daughter, who fell from the sky with more charisma and protagonism than what Jill could ever dream of having for herself, and turned Clive, now called Cid (as if Cid had been that memorable), into her fetch dog... I also hated the new recently appeared NPC, who was a strategic genious and turned into Cid's advisor... Who the heck is that woman and where did she come from? I believe FFXVI was a game written by AI because it lacks heart in its execution and as a result it ends up with empty characters. How is it possible that Jill ended beign a weaker character than Otto'w daughter, a recently appeared NPC? What the hell haopened with Joshua and Clive's relationship? The game tries to be grandious through its graohics and voice acting, but it's poorly written and doesn't manage to have meaning for the gamer un order ti keeo going forward with its story. Its gameplay is also weak, because it's more of a smash fest, than a strategic gameplay... And there's allways a strategic component in RPGs, wether they're turn based or action based... The thing is that once Jill was relegated to the infirmary and autistic Clive became Otto'ss daughter fetch dog, I turned off the game and exchanged it at a local Gaming Store for Ratchet & Clank Rift Appart, which ended beign the best decision for my money, given that R&C is a great game with lovable characters, a cool story and great gameplay. F* Square Enix... I started loving RPGs because of FFVII OG, but since FFXII, imo, this company produces garbage games.

Daring to take risks ? More like trying to appeal to audiences not interested. Sorry i do not take your take that Turn Based is dead because HURR DURRR try to appeal to people who arnt that interested. Badur's Gate 3 proved that some methods of combat are far from dead. FF16 trop me was a weak FF bland side quests and content and areas that felt more like an MMORPG than a single player RPG. It is an ok if not great but it isnt excellent. As for FF i think the Devs are missing the mark and FF will continue to die unless they go back to their roots. All FF is now is another 3rd person action game maker. I didnt even buy the latest FF& remake and i may never buy it.

I never finished it, and the comments are right. The game is hollow when it comes to being an RPG. There’s no elemental affinities whatsoever, status ailments, or deep character customization equipment. Better yet, any party composition. The “upgrades” don’t matter in the game and that’s just scratching the surface of what else it’s lacking. It’s just a flashy combat single player action game, nothing else.

i learned to enjoy the games for what they are, instead of complaining for what i think i want them to be. so what i think of FF16, i will say this : i give FF16 10/10 Because of the narrative of the game, the personal history of the dominants and how it plays out to move the the game story. and they mange to capture the right emotion in the eikon vs eikon battles in the righit time. as for the ending they give two interpretation without replaying the game if you do the side quests in the end, is Clive alive ?, who wrote the book ?..., you don't see this in a videogames. Clive and Jill relationship is grounded and real like the most not "HOLLYWOOD TYPE DRAMA," it may be boring to 90% of people but... *i saw a lot of criticism that Jill is bland and boring, i guess they Tifa fans 🤣🤣🤣,i think Jill character design done well, it's modest yet attractive at the same time without being sexualized, as for her personally you don't see her act desperate for Clive attention, just because she was not put into situation to push back agains Clive that does not mean that she is a side character.
