Was CHARLES HAMILTON "Punched" Out The Game? What Stunted His Growth?
Charles Hamilton was right there with Kendrick Lamar and had the same opportunity or better to have a similar career. Kendrick Lamar blew up and became the best rapper in the game at one point, while Charles Hamilton went the complete opposite direction. He got into a battle with a female he was in relationship with and exposed secrets she wasn't cool with at the time. It led to her punching him on camera and that started his downfall. He began to get in more on camera situations that caused him to be clowned and that was basically his undoing. Was CHARLES HAMILTON "Punched" Out The Game?

Charles Hamilton was his own worst enemy: Beefing with his own labelmates, made up stories about how he was friends with J-Dilla and his mother, not taking his mental health seriously, got arrested for punching a cop, not letting Interscope manage the vast amount of music he had, etc.
Man I always remember that Serious Jonez battle in the barbershop. "Not going back and forth, cut it off, go up to the roof and pull out the ratchet and let it off" always had me in tears lol
A big issue with Charles was he had too much drama. Everytime he was in the news, it wasn't about the music, just trouble he got into. He actually got a second record deal in 2015 with Republic. He was doing good with his second round but he wasn't a priority on the label. His album came out the same week as labelmate Post Malone and... I'm sure you can guess who's getting pushed more. But for the most part, yeah... it was too little, too late.
He was ahead of his time and that mental breakdown hurt him as well I would love to see him come back around cause I was a fan of his
The guy was supposed to be next up coming out of Spanish Harlem he was supposed to be where Kendrick Lamar is now he once had a legendary cypher with K-dot.

Didn't know he was from Harlem, now I see how he linked wit Max B at the time.
If you've seen the Red Bull documentary they did on him back in like 2015/16, it's a pretty good watch. He links back up with a bunch of his old friends that appeared on his tracks back in the day, but there's a real low point in the doc where he goes on a cruise ship with his mother and she suddenly passes away while they're on the cruise. That part really made me sympathize with him, like I could just feel how alone and empty he must've felt at the time. It's a bummer his debut album release and that single from Empire didn't quite re-spark his career.
Charles is my dude for life. The true definition of "looks can be decieving". Dude could sample anything like the old Kanye and made songs in a style that showed his vulnerabillities as a man yet savage like a bully roasting your whole fit. Imo he was in that Drake, Cudi, 808 and heartbreak lane before that potential was met by the Uzi Vert's and Juice Wrlds of today.

I was actually somewhat cool with him for a little during what people claim is his downfall. He's an amazing and humble dude but he definitely was battling depression in a sense during those times and I believe lashing out at some of his fans also stunted his growth. I literally watched him spazz on people for reasons unknown other than he was really down and out and those people weren't doing much but praising his talents while giving little opinionated thoughts not to come off rude. Still wish dude the best but i haven't spoken to him in like 10 years

Thank you for this one you gave a pretty fair assessment.. the one piece of information I would add is that Charles Hamilton rarely did features that would benefit his popularity mainstream wise. I think he was even mentored by Pharrell during his Interscope tenure. Alongside Cudi he planted seeds for rappers to get more melodic, alternative and express vulnerabilities. We can hear the Charles Hamilton influence in artist like Earl Sweatshirt, Tory Lanez and Steve Lacy.
