Warwan Valley Trek |LadakhToKashmir

Warwan Valley is arguably India’s most exquisite trek. This crossover trek from Ladakh to Kashmir is so remote that it is also called the “Lost World”.
As Indiahikes rightly mentions: “The 9 day trek is exceptionally stunning even for Kashmir”.The trek starts from an isolated village of Panikhar in the Zanskar region close to Drass,Kargil and ends in Inshan,a remote village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. While the trek is a difficult one, in terms of beauty it by far surpasses the scenarios of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg. The pristine hidden villages of Kishtwar truly seem like a part of heaven. These parts of Himalayas offer a scenery and challenge that is unlike Himachal, Uttarakhand or Sikkim and is remarkably unique.Monsoon is the best time to visit this place as post October the snow makes the trail impossible to cross. The starting point of the trek Panikhar is a 9-10 hour drive from Srinagar. One has to cross the Zojila Pass and drive over Dras and Kargil. The first sections of the trek has many clear blue alpine lakes, glaciers and beautiful meadows. One has to walk along the lengths of a glacier to make a crossover into Kashmir, this section arguably make this trek a little difficult and it stand out when you compare it with Kashmir Great Lakes ,Tarsar-Marsar or Nafran Valley in Kashmir. The Paradise like meadows in Sukhnai offer you a sight that only a few have experienced until now.The highlight of the trek is the Bracken Glacier. We were lucky to camp at the glacier at night and experience the thunderous sounds of rockfalls. This Documentary contains the first video and night lapse of the mighty Bracken glacier (4480 meters) on the internet.

About the trek: indiahikes.com/warwan-valley-...
Here is a writeup describing one of the most difficult days of the 9 day trek:
With the first light of dawn hitting the dreamy deltas of Donala we started our walk. After 13 hours of trecking over loose boulders, glacial lakes and a high pass, fatigue had started to kick in.When suddenly on a descend, the trail bent to the left and the mountain walls receded in front of our eyes.In a flash the majestic stripes of Bracken glacier bared itself to us. It lay there between the high mountains under the shadow of the clouds like a breathing beast taking an afternoon nap.
We climbed to a ridge for a better view and only from there we could fathom the scale of this vast garden of ice.The stripe like moraines made the entire glacier look like a road connecting the skies to the earth.
At night the deathly silence of the valley was broken by the whistling winds and thundering roars of rockfalls. Mountain tops broke off and fell thousands of meter adding to the debri on the glacier. The dense clouds covered the moon and the wind moved fast as if to brush away the dust.We were the first trekers to camp at Bracken and witness this drama.
Early in the morning the clouds filtered the first rays of sun as they dabbed over the Bracken, giving it's coat a fresh glaze after a cold stormy night. The multiple glacial streams revived themselves and scurried their way into bottomless crevasses that rid the surface of the glacier.
The horses that carried our supplies had to turn back from here as the crossing was too risky. We walked the length of the glacier to cross over to the other side
where there was a promise of civilization.

Unbelievable video Abhirup! I remember when nitesh sent us all the photos of this very trek to document. I was mesmerized. The glacier, the meadows, the changing landscape. Everything about this trek! This video just brought those feelings back. Thank you for sharing this to the world.

Hey @abhirupbose3249. Amazing. I did KGL last year. Im planning to do this in july. Couple of questions. Which trekking group did you go with? Porting option available? Was the trek too difficult? Better than KGL if you have done it?

Hi Abhirup, this is indeed amazing photography. Stunning. What camera/equipment did you use? While walking were you able to click pics or videos? Most time lapse videos you must have done on reaching the camp site? Pl do share about whats gone into creating this beautiful work.

After the trek if you are planning to stay in Kashmir,it's advisable to make the bookings beforehand. There was a lockdown on the day of independence day when we visited. However I don't think there were any concerns on security, everything felt safe.
