I know the owners have plenty of money but they still worry about costs. 10 kts is slow but increasing the speed by 2 kts doubles the fuel consumption, another 2 kts and another x 2 in costs. A 50m yacht sailing at 12-13 kns uses approx 6000li per day, plus generators at 250-500li per day depending on load. Ultralow sulphur MGO is currently 62c/li, so $4000/day and owners dont want to spend nearly $8000 for the sake of 2 kts. A busy yacht might spend 180 days at sea which means an extra $1.4M/year.

No, it's to make it easier for the pirates to attack you, take you hostage and hold you and the yacht for ransom because you can't outrun them. 🤨... 😄😆😂

My sweet spot is around 8 to 15 litres per hour - 6 to 8 knots - 49 to 67 foot loa. Preferably Gardner powered. I choke at triple digit fuel (even anything above 50 LPH) consumption, the cost is ridiculous over a decent voyage.

@@csjrogerson2377 I'd imagine there's a larger component of range. The owner optimized the boat for being able to go far, and in turn gave up on going fast.

Not really as range is also limited by hull shape, stability and how much fuel you can physically carry. In addition if you go really slowly and with low consumption you get long range, but there isnt sufficient storage for food. Most yachts carry enough for 2-3 weeks, but if you're only doing 6-8 kts you dont get far. Fuel is generally 5,000 NM at cruising speed.

BLUE II is so much more attractive than the modern yacht styles.

I love Blue 11 12 knots is fine.............you don't spill yer beer......!

Skat is also a well known card game. Not sure why we should think it has kinda more obscure 'animal poop' meaning in this case.

Norn in currently in Dublin. A first visit. MY Air is in Cork, but that's a regular. We don't get too many Superyacht visitors, so always exciting, although Kaos was in Dublin last year too, moored in the bay were Bono lives. .

Not sure if this has been said already, but the word "skat" in danish and norwegian, as well as "skatt" in swedish literally means "treasure". In both danish and norwegian it's also used much like the word "love" is used in UK english when speaking to another person in a loving/warm manner.

Perhaps the older looking yacht is slow because it is a full displacement hull? If it is ice rated perhaps that would make sense to have a FDH for long range and stability in harsh weather. Maybe the owner is prioritizing that over speed. Just a guess. Thank you for the informative video. Your content is refreshingly free of hype

Blue II is one of my favorite yachts. If you would have put that on your thumbnail photo, i would have clicked on this video a few days ago. The 2 styles of yachts I dislike the most are military looking and any yacht named after a James Bond Movie.

BLUE II has a canoe stern and will handle well in following heavy seas because waves can’t grab her. SKAT also means TAX in Danish I saw her many times in Copenhagen over several summers.

Skat (Skatt in Norwegian) also means Tax. Kind of ironic since Kjell Inge Røkke fled Norway, and moved to tax haven Switzerland.

It’s really ironic that that a tax refugee as Kjell Inge Røkke have a yacht named Skat. After that the Norwegian government give his firm a lot of money during the COVID pandemic he takes his money and leaves because I don’t want to pay his personal taxes.

If money was limitless , I'd have ' Dilbar ' , on a budget lol, I love the layout of ' Loon 221' , realistically , a Dinghy from Argos lol

I think I'd have Skat. I like the aesthetic. I'd have to rename it ".xlsx" due to it's history.

Between the yachts today, I'd pick Blue II. I'd no doubt have the support vessel look more like Amadea and similar "sleek" yachts, and have the helicopter and modern things there. Also a swim platform stern 'just in case' I wanted to lounge and swim in turquoise waters. Even though I love the ice hull and the possibilities it allows for. Great Video, some of my favourite type of looking and explanations.

It's a Danish term meaning "Treasure". A term of endearment often used for a child or a sweetheart - much as an English person might use the term darling. It's all a bit soppy.

You showed Silver Shalis, I worked as an Electrical Designer on that boat back in the day for the build.

Love that Blue 2 boat. It looks so benign, especially compared to aggressive designs like Skat. I would definitely rename Skat, I wouldn't be able to look past the meaning of the word in English (with an alternate spelling). I would be tempted to rename it to "Schat" which means both treasure and darling in Dutch.

If you have electro motors it means the shaft and propellor can do ALOT of revolutions. That yacht can be WAY WAY faster then the papers tell you.
