Wars in Ukraine and Gaza make defence spending increase ‘absolutely crucial' say military chiefs

“Time is ticking…a lot of former military figures think that spending now is absolutely crucial.”
The pressure is piling up on Keir Starmer’s new government to increase defence spending as a matter of urgency, The Times’s defence editor Larisa Brown tells Matt Chorley on #TimesRadio.

It is probably generally better for Western democracies to spend more money on defense than on similarly costly immigration.

_I fail to see why we need to increase our defence budget, when we don't live in Ukraine, Europe, or the Middle East._ Oh! Because of Starmers wide open borders policy... Of course...

One of the former military top brass interviewed on Times Radio pointed out that while building up our forces in peacetime to deter a potential agressor is expensive, failing to do so and ending up at war would cost even more. By the end of WW2 Britain was spending 46 percent of GDP on its forces.

Good thing stopping the feeding of Western military industrial complexes and US corporations like BlackRock and Lockheed Martin is the best compromise in the meantime. We should be pushing for peace in Gaza and Ukraine.

So we should just give in and keep letting Russia take chunks of other peoples land? Because thats what peace amounts 2?
