Turn off all internal burners and close the lid to smother the fire. Open the lid after about 20 seconds and let the smoke billow out (anything salvageable will survive this step…anything that doesn’t was already gone). Go in the house, find a mirror, and look at a failure. Only in that order will you find future success.

Sure, turning it off at the grill knob should be done first, BUT you could have a leak on your line and propane could still be pumping out... until you stop the propane flow valve on the propane tank. The tank is ALWAYS placed away from the grill as can be seen in the video. The flames won't touch him.

Close the lid too. It will starve the grease fire of oxygen should go out very quickly. Resist the urge to open it too soon. A hot grease fire that suddenly has oxygen again will flare up in your face. Always keep a dry chemical extinguisher 🧯, or baking soda handy as well as a wet beach towel. Never put water on grease, but a wet towel will starve the fire of oxygen.

A supervisor walked in the break room and said she had a small grease fire going, got a cup of water, and walked out. I realized what she was doing, and yelled at her not to do it because it was dangerous. I ran out but wasn't fast enough. She said I was right after pretty good flare-up. She was okay, and I asked why she didn't listen. She said she thought I was joking.
