I'd say this morally justifies the piracy of everything WB owns the rights to.

I think this is "cutting the fat" in the eyes of WB execs before they do layoffs (and possibly close Rocksteady). The fact that WB even doubled down on live services after Suicide Squad: Kill the Rocksteady Studio became the latest in a long line of absolute failure live service shows they refuse to learn the actual market conditions and will learn the hard way. These execs could technically be sued by their investors, publicly traded companies are by law required to act in the interests of shareholders and this gambling addiction type decision making is fiduciary irresponsibility wasting billions of dollars on multiple live service games hoping one will be popular to monetise over and over. Just like how a gambling addict will keep on putting money into a slot machine hoping one of the spins will pay out. I'm convinced that cutting back anything that could be considered expendable by them is a consequence that their decisions are backfiring on them and cutting things to make their decisions look less bad than they really are. Indie devs need to take this as a warning, the AAA space and large IP holders are not trustworthy, you need to invest in your own IP that you can own and stay away from the big publishers that have no real expertise in the indie space. Stay away from WB, EA "Originals" and Take Two's "Private Division" and if you cannot self publish, there are publishers with good indie expertise like Humble Bundle & Devolver. The indie space is doing so well it's taken up the AA space that the big publishers and studios started abandoning 15 years ago, the wider gaming industry can withstand a AAA collapse but smaller studios need to be able to carry the torch without them.

Buy WHY are they delisting these games?! I keep hearing people talk about how easy it would be to transfer publishing and how shitty this is but WHY is WB doing this in the first place? Did they have a falling out with Adult Swim or something?

That is really awful that some games will become unavailable due to a corporation mishandling them and not even allowing them to find a new publisher if that hadn't done so already. At least Death's Gambit: Afterlife was published by Serenity Forge so the best version of the game will still be available. I may have to pick up Headlander before it disappears, I've been curious about that one and I guess now this gives me incentive to prioritize purchasing it.

I’ve long since had my suspicions about WB; I’ve been saying for a while that I trust them even less than EA or Activision. This absolutely seals it. F*ck WB Studios. From now on I won’t only be avoiding them, but they’re blacklisted to me.

common. but should never be normal. When a dev sees that big pile of cash (big for an indie) and the opportunity to publish the game can be really hard to think alternatives like scoping down and going for a smaller publisher. But big corp, specially public traded ones will screw you over. It is not a matter of IF, it is a matter of when.

Sigh... I wouldn't be surprised if WB went bankrupt like THQ and Midway. David Zaslav is as stupid as Elmer Fudd. Dillongoo said he would like to purchase the RWBY IP. Then, I hope that Midway's games and Atari Games' games will be purchased by Atari and Raw Thrills, and Gauntlet will be purchased by Arrowhead.

I'm hoping these games will go on a deep sale during next week's Steam Spring Sale. Yeah digital only games can suck when de-listed. But on the other hand. Let's be honest, many of us have a huge backlog, that we'll never even touch a lot of the games we purchased before we die.

It's disgusting ! I HATE COD, Fifa and other "mainstream" games which are most of the time boring and just sequels of sequels. Too bad there is no big company with a real interest in indie games. NEW IDEAS come from indie companies... not AAA studios.... !!

I've heard a lot of braindead excuses for these big companies to destroy media so that no one can have it, but, "Don't have the resources to transfer them to their original owners" is a new one. Not that WB hasn't already been evil and exploitative for years, but congratulations: this is a new low in what seems to be a frantic race to the absolute bottom; can't wait to see which big name does what stupid thing next. 😒

I quit buying digital games. I have hundreds of digital games on switch and maybe 70 physical. I was bummed that Tomb Raider didn't have a physical release, still hoping it gets a physical release because I'd really like to have these games for the Switch.

It's one thing if someone starts arguing for $1 in-game fee to reload your gun. But just saying "hey this game is costing us money"...yeah, they're gonna cut that.

@@TheMisterGuyYou realise this was cut to be a tax writoff right? The excuse of 'it's costing us money' is about as shallow as you can get. WB failed in their mainstream game production, and other areas of business so badly their market value fell by about 15%. They're shitting a brick now trying to justify to their shareholders they are doing something to actually make up for that, and cutting down in nonessential areas is a good way to do that. It wasn't 'losing them money', it just wasn't a core asset of their company. If WB had any real intention to do this because it was a real cutdown, they would consider selling or trading the IPs, if you can't see that, you must not have a very good understanding of corporate strategy. The real area WB's money is going straight into the furnace is their live service shitshows like suicide squad: Kill the justice league, which is a triple-A game that didn't gross as much as a double-A one.

@@agentduck9285 "You realise this was cut to be a tax writoff right?" I don't know the details but it does sound like a tax situation. It's perverse that they benefit by dropping goods and services from the public, but business decisions are often forced by larger systems than just the business. "It wasn't 'losing them money', it just wasn't a core asset of their company." If this is true, this seems very strange. I understand "this isn't the main thing we do" but...if it's making you money, why wouldn't you just let it ride? There might be a completely sound answer to that, I just don't know their situation well enough to guess what it might be.
