I couldn't possibly imagine making worse decisions than what they are. Like any of us could do it better and I know how hard it is, I know how stupid it sounds to say stuff like that and I believe we could do it better without even trying compared to what they are doing.

I hope the devs at Avalanche fight back against this because this is ridiculous now, literally NO ONE wants live service, have WB not seen the failures of recent attempts (including their OWN) and the success of recent single player games?! This makes me so angry. How out of touch can they be.

First the decision that Batman Beyond animated movie was cancelled and now this? Who is making these decisions! I need an explanation because none of it make sense! This has to be some sort of case study or something cause it just doesn’t add up!

100% agree. There is a place for live service and I don’t fault any publisher trying to get one or two cash cows, but NO ONE at this point should be going all-in and “moving away” from single player games. It’s like these people just want to continue to repeat the mistakes of the recent past and then wonder why they’re not profitable and their games flop. Chasing trends doesn’t work 95% of the time. Someone with a brain at WB needs to get them on Hogwarts 2 as a single player sequel. Let them do a separate live service if they want.

The main reason HL did as well as it did was it already had a HUGE following. It was a mediocre game.

Another example of how executives are so out of depth with their consumer! More proof that these companies do not care about gamers, only their investors and money!

This is awful for one reason. WB owns the rights to sooo many characters and licenses. Netherealm needs to jump ship and they might be the only ones to do it. DC not gonna happen, the wizarding world not gonna happen, mad max, the matrix, lord of the rings. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!. This is tragic, and I hope it blows up in there face. I remember listening to you when Legacy was launching and you were saying that Legacy would open the doors for more studios to get involved into making their own HP games. Why can’t WB just let Avalanche do their thing with Legacy and open the MMO/live service idea to another studio? Is that too simple for WB executives? 🥴

If I was the CEO of WB games, I would develop a Superman game. I would develop a single player flash game and slowly tie other heroes together to make a universe in which people can establish emotions with every individual character at least 7 and then I would create a Justice League game. I would make a Harry Potter game In the Hogwarts legacy universes as I feel this is what people want. If I was the CEO of WB games everybody would get what they want, and DC would make a lot more. Money And because I understand basic economics. We call this supply and demand make games people want and they'll buy it's as simple as that

I don’t know look at how the marvels and suicide squad turned out and gothum knights. The only new super hero games that’s really thriving is spider man. It’s hard to get super hero games right but I concur that spider man works well as a video game because of his powers and abilities and story and the PlayStation spider man is very reminiscent of the spider man movies with elevated gameplay on top of that.

Sooo they’re moving away from having the type of game that was their best seller of all time to push forward a massive failure strategy? I thought companies want to aim what makes them more money? Is it better to gamble what colossally failed until you fall out of business? What the hell am I missing? Clearly you have to be on top ready for content after content if you gonna be live service. That really means you better have something ready, and definitive shortly to keep players engaged. And not just tease uncertainty slow gaps situation. And even though internet have become too vital and more reliable, not everyone definitively have internet at all times either. Let alone top speed. If you have no internet, then it’s awkwardly not playable.

Agreed, they should be thinking about that morality system, new spells, a new story and adding the wizarding world things they had to cut last time. Harry potter Universe was meant to be explored with friends. Single player games serve their purpose, but you could easily implement a multiplayer experience that lasts as well as a single-player mode....

I'm not so sure that it's going to be live service mainly because none of the job listings seem to be what is typical of a live service game

I just don't understand how those free to play/live service games falter and the single player game blooms, but they want to continue focusing on the live service approach... It doesn't make sense.

I would love to play a Hogwarts MMO game where every student is a player. That would be great fun.

Gaming is literally a chore now, it’s grindy, has some sort of battle pass you need to grind through many people don’t have that time, ps3/ps2 era best era and everything after has been just so mid, some bangers have come out ofc but the way gaming is I’m not looking to invest into this trash anymore.

Live services are going to be pretty common in the industry. With A.I. Generation you can have assets and visuals generated on the fly and sold in game. Devs don’t have to put any effort at all, it’s like gamers paying for simple palette swaps. Very exploitative and lazy effort.

Hogwarts Legacy was my GOTY last year. A true surprise and gem of a game but this franchise is dead. We will get some nasty GaaS crapster Hogwarts Legacy 2 filled with microtransactions, DLC, always online shit you don't want, forced online, lots of mediocre MMO style content, NFTs, A. I. stuff, maybe give the wizards guns... the money people will throw it all in there. Just time to move on...

This may be an unpopular opinion on this channel... but having a "Multiplayer Option" is great.. I want that option.... BUT looking at what WB has done in the past with the whole "Free to Play, with In-App purchases", they are Predatory at Best.

Live service games have to be crafted right. Gatta have new content, rewards, unite the community, positive social interaction, etc. ESO Online is a good example of a positive success.

Instead of making a Hogwarts legacy 2. They can make the recent one where we can chat with other players and play with other players.

If they think that they can capitalize off of the millions of copies sold and transfer those same customers to a live service game they are delusional. I firmly believe HL did so well because the game style appealed to such a broad audience. Non-gamers or casual gamers who are fans of the franchise could easily pick it up and have a few hours of fun running around Hogwarts. (Without the time demands or money demands that often come with live service, micro-transaction heavy games.) Live service games appeal to a very different style of gamer with very different interests, needs and preferences that doesn’t appeal to the more casual gamers. They would almost guaranteed lose a good chunk of the paying customers if they switched to live service. I don’t think it will be as lucrative as they seem to think it will be.

If they go the microtransactions pay to win model then I won't be getting it. I don't play any games that try to nickel and dime you to death for every little thing. The success of HL got the WB bean counters greed going and the failure of Suicide Squad has made them grasp around for any revenue stream they can think of. The quality of the game will suffer in the name of wringing every last cent they can from gamers. The boycott failed to damage the game but WB themselves has no problem with killing the franchise themselves.

Half of the money that goes into video game budgets goes into marketing. Alot of which is just wasted. These massive triple a companies are treating video games like movies and spending as much on the marketing as they do on the production. Video games aren't movies. If you make a good game, the players will sell the game for you. you know what I’m at least glad that we got the game we did, but I really hope they do not go only towards multiplayer games the Quidditch game seems like it’s going to be very good and I hope it is for the studio sake but I really think that the Harry Potter IP needs more single player games games better than Hogwarts Legacy in every way

If these greedy fools want to risk hundreds of millions on a bet, well its their money to burn. Hogwarts Legacy was a good first attempt. It needs a lot of improvement to take the formula to the next level. If they pivot to something else surely they cannot expect that the same people will buy and play HL 2 if it is not even in the same genre. They would abandon their current playerbase and cater to an entirely different set of people. So back to square one. Good luck pulling similar or even better numbers when many people will come away massively disappointed in their new offering. I will never play another live action game. Not only because I dislike the formula, it is the nickle-and-dime mentality of these greedy publishers that I refuse to put up with.

I feel like how they see it with Hogwarts Legacy, is that it was such a huge success DESPITE being singleplayer. They're thinking it was held back by being singleplayer. I saw a lot of people asking for multiplayer of some kind. Also Ig live service doesn't have to mean multiplayer, but you don't really see it as singleplayer titles across the industry. The closest we have so far on a large scale is Genshin Impact.

I know Avalanche did a good job with HL being their first openworld rpg, but please don't ask then to go even further outside of their comfort zone for a MMO HL2. MMO for HP / WW content would work well and tie WB over in the "short-term". Throw in some HP remakes / remasters to help and that should be an easy win - I mean how many people got a console just to play HL and are now wanting to play more HP games

This game should be there focus everything else is rubbish tbh I wouldn’t mind if they do what Jedi fallen order did with survivor at this point but make choice of having a companion character or pet to tag along on quests and keep doing that with having a good game or adding in multiplayer in game so you can play with a friend I don’t see it going full online multiplayer yet tbh but can see some improvements that won’t destroy it and still be great new missions story and spells more quests and complicated puzzles would rather tomb raid but Atleast be met with enemies and puzzles to accomplish like play a game of chess a actual proper wizard chess game in game like I wouldn’t mind that tbh having multiplayer with a friend at home rather than going to crazy but yea definitely story to be longer and a lot more quests spells over what we could possibly get if go other way I’d definitely take a good game over nothing much tbh… I so hope they do what Jedi order/ survivor did and improve on what they got… live service unless gonna be like destiny I can’t see any game being awesome as always need that content and stuff tbh focus only on that game… so could definitely just see legacy sticking to the same and hopefully making improvements Atleast add a multiplayer so can play with a friend or family kids in game over pushing it too far outside of the greatness we already have as all we need is improvements rather than going to far outside the box 🤍♠️

Meanwhile Square Enix are still chasing Web 3.0 with NFT's and AI, the triple A gaming industry is too stupid to maintain success, they've hollowed out the creatives for cut-throat businessmen and now they are just endlessly chasing fool's gold.

Honestly i think a live service DC game could work suicide squad shot themselves in the foot when they decided the game should be about killing the justice league it should have been its own universe and have you basically bounty hunting for different DC villains and have a different combat style and power set per character like the avengers game was okay it was buggy as hell and repetitive but they tried to make the heroes feel like the heroes if it wasn't as buggy and unimmaginative it could have worked
