Yea, coming from a 46 yr old, this is so spot on. I like to warm up by doing 1-2 sets of all my exercises for the day at the start, using about 30%-50% of my working weight. Name of the game at this point is consistency.
Effective warm ups are so important. Being a bit older and having experienced several aches and pains, i learned the hard way.
Awesome video. Totally agree too. Doing hamstring curls and bodyweight lunges before squats have made the lift “feel” smoother and I have less aches after because I’m going in with a light pump.
Enjoyed the talk👌
Random youtube commenter with aches and pains reporting in. Going to definitely focus on warmups because I absolutely have never properly warmed up before and it has definitely caught up with me. Thx for the info!
Guilty. I know how to warm up and know the value of it, but when I moved to a 3-day split I found the sessions too long to spend warming up. I also moved to a new gym that was very busy, so if I arrived and the equipment I needed to start with was free, I'd jump on it and begin building up to my working weights. This was fine when I was doing low volume, but I stopped progressing so I had increase volume again. Now that I've done that my elbows and knees are sore all the time. Before even watching this video I'd decided to make the needed changes. This video just confirms it. Thanks for the slap bro.

That's what I want to hear. Good man, get it done.
A couple of minutes warming up prevents a couple of weeks away from the gym🤝

As someone who lives in canada and trains in my garage, sometimes it's -5°C in there before I turn the heater on. Warming up well has basically become my religion due to this 😂 All jokes aside, I'm glad to see someone pushing the importance of this topic. It's not a problem until it's a problem.
I'm in my mid-30s and I can tell when I skimped on my warm-ups because the second set will feel so much better than the first. I've noticed my shoulders in particular need a lot more warming up than other joints.
The beauty of using a superslow cadence is I just need one warmup set of 2 x reps (40 seconds TUT) before my main set.
I approve this message 💯! As a seasoned lifter with 30 years in the gym, 15-20 mins with pumping weight shoulders and elbows are warm and loose. If it's lower body day, it'd be knees, abs, lower back.
The gym you train at is amazing. Unfortunately, my gym is bare bones and basic. Miss the fully stocked gym like that.
💪
One thing to keep in mind if joints start to hurt.
Do you workout with free weights DB or barbell bench for example still sometimes? Is there a reason you keep machines in now , Injuries or just fed up with some movements ?

I think these machines are better for hypertrophy, better stimulus with less wear and tear on the joints. Honestly it's as simple as that. They're the best machines in the world. Even last year at the other gym I was doing more barbell and db work as the equipment was more limited. I enjoy DB pressing for example. I still do a heavy hip hinge with a barbell as i don't feel that can be replicated.
Warming up like this is mandatory to me
My warmup routine is: Empty bar / stack / carriage weight x 20 reps 50% working weightx 10 reps 75% working weight x 5 reps 100% working weight x 1 rep Working sets Some dude in the gym told me to do this when I first started lifting 13 years ago and I've always done it since. I have no clue if this is right or not, but I'm in my mid 30s and other than a right MCL strain I picked up powerlifting, I have no joint pain.

So obviously this goes against what I'm saying in this video which is fine, but I think it's important to understand what that advice has allowed you to accomplish in those 13 years. What is your bodyweight and best squat in just a belt?
How would warmup for lowerbody look like ?
