Thank U Sir.
I work ITB 100% and the only 1176 i use is MC 77, is just freaking awesome
just a quick suggestion on doing audio comparisons, its useful to flip the phase and combine two sources so we can hear what the actual difference is as well, sometimes that tells me a lot such as if I'm hearing a difference that really isn't there, etc
try the Klanghelm MJUC and you will solve all you will never buy a plugin comp again
I got caught up in the hype, and bought a W.A. 76 when they first came out, and were nearly £600. I was suspicious when I unboxed it and came across the Christmas tree fairy lights powersupply. It lasted around two months and sounded very sugary. I’ve had a hardware MC 77 for around 12 years. No contest!
The WA76 really brought out the room on the drums. There’s an open and idiosyncratic response going on that really works. The KT76 does this too, but with a little less vibe. The plugs were all kinda vibe-less, they certainly didn’t bring out the space between the notes the way the WA76 did. Great comparison. I really appreciate how you switched between the WA76 to the other 76 and then back to the WA76. Really helpful. Thanks!
no timestamps?
Slate on the vocals was distorted whereby I found the Brainworx best on vocals.
Klark is too transparent for an 1176. Works good but no character
Great comparison. The WA76 sounds alive, and unveiled. There's no need for a 2nd place at the Warm Audio price point IMHO.
Awesome comparison, thanks Barry
Great video as usual Barry.
Nice comparison video man!! Camera setup is 🔥🔥🔥 too!
So humble yet very knowledgeable 👍🏾
Great video! Another one to consider is the Lindell Audio 500 series FET compressor.
Oh snap I'm intrigued. I'm looking at getting the wa76 so this should be fun.
Appreciate the comparisons and how it was done. It would be great to hear different musical genres in these comparisons. It seems R&B (as in soul, not Hip-Hop) and Jazz (contemporary smooth jazz, not straight ahead and no screaming saxophones) are rarely presented. Rock, Dance music and Hip-Hop seem to be the only genres that get attention.
As a bassplayer who owns the WA76 (and the WA2a) I loved the Warm on bass here. Not only tonally but for its compression feel. Maybe a LPF would have got what you wanted..
I've always found the Waves CLA 76 to work very well in the context of a mix and quick to dial in. I own a WA76 and use it mainly for tracking and own many other 76 style plugins, which all have differences. I suppose it's all about context and how they work within a full mix. One version of a 76 may subjectively sound better on it's own in solo but if you are rolling off the bottom end, eq'ing or processing afterwards, you may find that another choice is better.
Great video Barry thanks for your hard work. I'm finding it harder and harder to be objective with these reviews. I listen and watch to see which compressor your using and I find that my emotional response comes into play because I want the hardware compressors to win. In truth, everything sounded pretty good to me. I think what surprised me the most is the Klark. There is so much hate on for the Klark every where but honestly, I don't feel like it hurt anything.
