    I am more concerned about having the lowest latency when u record my midi keyboard to play keyscape. What is the lowest latency time i can get with 32 samples buffer ?

    I have 2 RME Fireface AD/DA converters, a Fireface 800 & a Fireface UFX+. I watched the first 2 sessions you presented because I hadn't watched them. You stated many times that to not watch them would potentially be a disservice to myself so I did. I really wanted a concise explanation of how to route signal through Totalmix(es) to a UA 1176 - 2 utilizing both RME converters. By the time I got to this lesson, I decided to call RME support rather than attempt to sit still while you bounce around like spit on a hot griddle explaining hardware connections for the most subtle of recording tasks, applying limiting & compression. I don't like to criticize because I can tell you are trying to earnestly communicate your experiences working with Totalmix. I think editing your videos to reduce redundancies would be by best advice to you. Thanks, though

    You are not explaing how to record with just a 8 channel you are going into other more expensive options which some of us cannot afford you can record drums and get wonderful results with basic gear and cheaper mikes you do not need triggers how you say so in summary my point here is your only really talking about yourself.

  • @BarryJohns
    @BarryJohnsКүн бұрын

    There are so many variables no way to cover the different type of needs. Jazz band vs metal, very different needs. Triggers are not recording drums, it’s recording MIDI data and you have the bigger issue of cymbals. Again o could go on and on. I do talk about TJ’s. Challenge. The video is not about how to record drums but rather how many channels is beat to do it. It assumes a person Already knows how to basically get it done. Again no way to cover everything in a short video.

    Hi Barry. Actually two things. First unrelated, but figured you'd see it here first. I'm thinking of going for some A77Hs soon. Can you get by without a sub for rock/metal? Okay... second... I think some of the issues you may be having might need to be addressed by Steinberg. It seems to me that when EUCON is "buggy" it can depend a lot on how well the developers of a third party host DAW have implemented EUCON support and whether they adhered to the SDK well. My opinion is that the best EUCON experience will most likely be with Pro Tools since Avid is in control of both. I have an S3 (which I bought used in amazing condition for $2k) and am running the combo of it, Avid Control on iPad and Avid Desktop Control which can provide a meter bridge like experience for S3 users. I have had issues with a third party DAW and contacted them and they were able to fix issues that did NOT come up in Pro Tools. In fact, in some cases the developer for the other DAW would say "Oh... it's not possible to do _______." And I would say "Pro Tools can do it." And they'd contact Avid, and get some help, and then implement this thing that "couldn't be done." That gave me the impression that Avid may not be keeping the SDK for EUCON as up to date as they could/should and why some developers might have some difficulty. That said, bottom line is some of your issues my be the fault of Steinberg and not necessarily Avid. I'm not sure of that, but again, seems EUCON is WAY more solid in Pro Tools.

    THX for the info. I guess the S1 and so on is not a cheap controller. And whatever work you want to do, you don't want a piece of gear to crash. If your saw stops rotating within a precise cut you are really having trouble! So I agree...Avid should fix this before selling even one more Eucon controller! ;-)

    Great informative video! Is it possible to have multiple loop back channels setup with the RME? For instance, having a mic being sent to a loopback channel and then also your DAW audio being sent to a separate loopback channel.

    Barry, I said the same to the Audio Animals guys... granted I'm not using Nuendo, but I AM using a Hackintosh... arguably a rig that someone would EXPECT issues on. However, short of an issue with a connection to my server, I am not having issues with my Pro Tools rig, nor have I had issues in years. I have two S1's and a Dock. Again, running on a Hackintosh. I am working in ATMOS with internal and external renderer as well as the Binaural Renderer for Apple Music and plenty of other third party plugins and apps running all the time. I do NOT think its so much them, as much as it is any user's unique situation. And I bet if you got on the horn with Avid support, they would help you identify that something specific in your system that is causing you grief. Just a hunch from my lessons learned. But have some hope, cause there ARE those of us out there who have a relatively stable experience.

    I have felt the same way but I finally figured out that it is a network issue- basically it only fails when it can’t see the devices on its network - and sometimes that may have something to do with the router you may be using to plug everything in - rebooting the router and computer usually fixes it Also set up a WiFi and a router just for the Eucon network and nothing else.

    All I know is I had a fader port that appeared to need a bunch of programing. No sooner you got it programed patch comes out and resets part of the programing or all of it. That is what is stopping from buying any of these units like SSL controllers. it appears Barry that things have not changed same for others that complain about it. Point is controllers take up space on my desk and if I have to work to get them work why bother? It should be plug and play and work right off the bat. The unit is suppose to make work flow easy not create me more work. Just lame. Sorry at this point controllers that do this are not worth my time period.

    I am sure the S4 and S6 controllers are not having these issues due to there dedicated screens, which are hardwired into the controller units unlike the iPad system. There is no way Tv, film and big commercial studios would put up with such nonsense. The Ipad functionality was a cheap and easy way to give the illusion that you had some of the same advanced functionality as the high end units, but they did it on a cheap and so therefore we suffer with bugs that they don’t want address anytime soon. I wish they would just add dedicated Avid Screens to the dock and S1 but i am sure the cost would go up 250% or more

    Only time I ever bought one was for a ribbon mic. I wasn't getting it for a better quality of tone, but solely because I was told that I needed that extra gain to get a decently strong signal. And for that purpose, I'd say yeah it was useful for that. Ribbon mics are quiet as hell. The problem is that even the best mic preamp is still gonna add some of its own noise to the signal. Like you said, it mattered back in the day when interface preamps were crap, but nowadays I don't get much benefit from it. I've found myself not using the preamp entirely out of laziness and not seeing an appreciable difference. The clean signal I get is less fatty, but after applying all the filters and EQ it's basically identical.

    It works with logic, i don’t have logic yet. But plan to get it soon cause i am ending my pro tools studio subscription and will update my PT HDX ultimate perpetual sometime in the future when i can afford to. I have not used my Dock and S3 a lot but when I did, i did notice the dock did crash or stop working/Freezing up where the buttons did not respond. Someone will come out with a better more stable controllers.. for the home and prosumer studio market, i was having issues on PT 12.84 eucon version, i was for sure the bugs had been removed by now! Guess I was wrong. Shame on avid. Pro tools keyboard shortcuts are always a good thing to master. I paid 4k for my S3 too much but i had a day job then. Retired now and can’t afford to invest in another controller system anytime soon. I have a feeling they may have made the eucon controllers to complicated under the hood, easy for software bugs

    Thanks for the discussion. I am planning on buying the Avid Dock at some point but it sounds like I can put that on the back burner for a while which gives me the opportunity to learn and fine tune the iPad Control App. I am wondering if the newest M4 iPad will clear up some of the dock crashing. I may have to put on my Beta tester uniform, take the plunge and find out for myself. Thanks again for the great info.

    What's the problem with your system? I use the same setup on my Mac and PT without problems and I also been using the avid s6 for long time without problems beside a HDD failure (replaced the whole module). The main problem with Eucon its more related to the connectivity using multiple Ethernet protocols at the same time without running dedicated networks. If you're running AoIP with eucon, internet, SSL duality/sigma protocols you will run into issues.

    So I have the Apple m4 iPad Pro which is 13" in size and would prefer using the iPad in Landscape position as opposed to straight up and down. So I think that it would fit the S1 but not the Dock. As desk space is limited I was thinking that the S1 would be the better controller for me but your video threw a wrench into the works. If the Dock is that much better I guess that I should leave the Dock empty and put my iPad on a stand next to the Dock....which isn't as appealing as mounting the iPad on the controller. Please give me your thoughts on this. If you think that S1 would be more appropriate for my situation, how much do you want for yours?
