My guess is that Tyrion will be trying to prevent the Slaanesh newborn (from the Morathi book) from growing into a fully fledged Chaos god that could rampage within the mortal realms themselves. Slaanesh is ultimately the aelves great foe and while it might be a case of rehashing old beats it could be fun if it leads the five Aelf gods with all of their baggage and agendas to work together, which is something we have heard about but haven't seen in action for ourselves. Great show.

I think you underestimated Celennar role in Nagash’s demise, it’s Teclis that plans for him to be eliminated soon so he can go back and call the Luminarchs, and it’s his moon light that the Luminarchs use to beam Nagash Apart that a great rendition of an epic fight!

I love these narrative discussion sections! If you guys ever did reviews of AoS novels I would absolutely follow it. With regards to who Teclis is fighting, what if it was something like: The Old Ones are coming back, have seen the state of things, and just want to hit the reset button. Chaos' prize would be stolen and everyone in the Mortal Realms would simply cease to exist.

I like the angle of Tyrion going after the Newborn, but I'd love the reimagining of Malerion as a new Chaos God of spite, hatred, and general vindictiveness, and possibly a way to breathe some new life into the Idoneth (and all their dark-elvish ways). If I remember right, the thing Teclis saw and despised in the souls of the Mathlann worshippers was... shadow. Those waters get pretty dark, and Chaos would definitely free up some new aesthetic space for Druchii turned up to 11. The draconic element from Malerion could blend right in with the Deepkin. I'm with Tom on this one. An Eshin re-release as unlikely allies in the Shadow Wars? Would be great too. :P

As one of the TO for Grandhammer, that was a hell of a tournament to watch fold out and it was great coverage. Also as the guy that talked with Jack about his yeti list for that batrep, oh boy I’m still giggling about that

I think you raised some interesting points that I didn't necessarily take from the story. It could be biased but I think the Allarielle sections are potentially the most interesting in terms of overall development. I think it was interesting to see that she said the realms were waking up - which make me wonder if more interactive battlefields or realm spirits will be a part of AoS 3, and her agents were working to accelerate that - given the kurnothi in the beastgrave. I think that definitely links to Kragnos, but not sure how Kragnos will factor in - it is clearly a model from the shield rumour engine but all of destruction suddenly following seems unlikely and he is not a visual match for the destruction armies. Overall potentially bigger than Morathi in plot terms but didn't seem as engaging a lot of the story fell back on big sweeping combat overviews which a really quite dull told they way they do - this from someone who was hooked to the nearly 6 hour long audio of the last battle in the wheel of time series

The Cities one in four and the Marks of Chaos are great mechanics that add lots of flavour to lists. Really wish they’d get around to redoing the Skaven Great Clans mechanics. Something like the for mentioned rules but Skavenly. Press ganging or bribing units from one clan to another.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or brought up. But on having a "named" character in most of the Broken Realms battalions, this prevents taking more than one of the same battalions. Didn't really think much of it until the K.O. one. Thoughts?

Yeah, GW’s rules writing for BR has been really inconsistent, so it’s entirely possible they didn’t think about your trying to take them twice either. An example would be their awkward rules breaking of giving the “named/unique” characters Command Traits though that’s generally impossible, but then not specifying whether or not they can take Artefacts as well since they’ve already broken the other rule. Similarly, their wording on them being locked to a subfaction has been all over the place in terms of consistency.

Xintil War Magi plus big blob of Ironbreakers for 3+/5+ objective holders. The other interesting option is to use the Xintli city rules to be a new city founded in the zone of Shyish that got claimed by the Lumineth. Have Shyishian humans pilgrimmage there and found a city with Lumineth support.

Yes, give me an Orcy edition and I will be back into this game faster then that fox wind spirit in mating season. A starter box with both Stormcast and Orcs will be like the only combo that would ever make me seriously consider straight up buying two starter boxes. I started this hobby with a 5th edition O&G army and I have all the old 5th ed. metal named hero models (just wanted to brag since I just completed the collection with the last elusive model - Morglum).

The link between Tyrion and Malerion, if there has to be one, could be Aenarion, as they are both his descendants. Since BR Morathi my wish has been that the newly-freed soul of Aenarion joins his son Malekith, since the touch of Khaine has stained him and made him closer to the ulgish powers. Tyrion, having himself be corrupted by Khaine once, could play some sort of role in this dynamic. This is not really a theory and more of a wish from my part. But the fact that Aenarion is now free from Slaanesh is bound to play some kind of part in the future narrative.

Oh man, Cursed City. Guess we should've known something was up when they showed off skaven vampire and the vampire lady as being from Cursed City but only mentioning to expect them with Soulblight Gravelords. Clearly the expansions were ready to go and are being repackaged into other things. Something went very wrong and we've got a mystery in the realms.

I hope the Nighthaunt stuff is pretty hoss. Openly going to say this: favorite series of Sculpts because spoopy ghosts are awesome. On the topic of Harridans, I had the idea if Lady O or a Banshee Hero was your general, both Myrmourn and Harridans would become Battleline, but perhaps they're Procession Battleline a la FEC? And sad to see the Emerald Host White Dwarf essentially getting yeeted into the moon, but progress means pain, so better to rip the bandaid off now than later. Also, can we call BR: Be'lakor Broken Realms: Steely Dan edition, since clearly the theme song of the book is "Dirty Work"?

I hope the Emerald Host battalion sticks around, it's one of my favourite to play with. Forgotten Scions is one of my go-to battalions, Dolorous Guard makes the Hexwraiths actually decent, and Emerald Host is just a nice way to get lower drops and extra artefact/CP.

Problem is the Knights of Regret ability revealed duplicates the Dolorous Guard text, so I'm certain those Battalions are effectively dead much like what happened in Wrath of the Everchosen to Nurgle's Super-battalions that got Sub-Factions

I really would like to know who designed this new Slann model, because the way the platform is designed with this huge massive thing protruding out of the inner diameter of the aerotrim structure, it cannot physically/mechanically work, and it's visually very obvious. In that regard, it fits the model that the aerotrim structure is brocken... :D

The new big bad is a Tyranids. They have no allegiance and while orks are a problem bids eat worlds and even threaten chaos. Death was similar to this in the AOS realm but what if there was a new nids? A big bad that would as soon as destroy the all points just as much as azyr

Also Malarion is best without having an army because he is the ultimate undercover spy who's maybe a double agent or triple agent and it would be an easy narrative device where he doesn't actually have an army so much as maybe he has units that were always under his control but have been under allegiance like Morathi's for a while and then suddenly they are not that god's but now his. But that being said Malarion might be the one that Tyrion is trying to fight and Teclis just believes that he is the the worst case scenario because it is such a misdirect of information, maybe even to the extent that he is working with Chaos, when in reality there's something far worse but you only get the hint of it because it was so misdirected

Yeah, just Settler’s, but fortunately it works well in that City, and it’s not a departure for Cities to have Battalions locked to a given city. Where this Broken Realms trend really disappoints is forcing armies that don’t usually have Battalions locked to subfactions all of the sudden having to devolve into the model Cities shouldn’tve ever established in the first place. But I digress...

I know we keep beating the drum of kragnos in destruction, and it's possible, but to me it just looks like putting a triangular block into a square hole. It fits but its not where it belongs. The factions missing from broken realms at the moment are skaven, BoC, sylvaneth, khorne, slaanesh and all of destruction plus we need that kroak warscroll. I don't think it's a coincidence that around when broken realms was probably being finalized is when we started getting a lot of destruction stuff in white dwarf (ironsunz & gitz) or that destruction has been entirely absent from the books. Kragnos is also a centaur like creature, and the factions that already have that aesthetic (BoC, sylvaneth/kunothi, chorfs) haven't shown up in BR yet, despite all of them desperately needing updates (chorfs are probably gone for good though) and one of them needing a line revamp. To me it looks like the signs are pointing to chaos, Kroak's primary concern is chaos, and 4 of the missing factions are chaos. I'm not sure where kragnos would fit in with gordrakk either, but I do know that gordrakk wouldn't bow or step out of the way. I'm not going to say it isn't possible, but I don't think destruction will see anything until aos3 drops.

Technically it was legal between the Aether War release of January 2020 until GHB20 came out, as the normal wording on recent publications was used in Aether War, but yeah, those tiny starter set Battalions typically don’t go anywhere.

As a Dark Elf player I would love if the culmination of the Broken Realms event is the return of Malerion, but I doubt it will be. Making Malerion some gold faction version of 40ks Alpha Legion does sound sweet ^^ If the last book is Broken Realms: Malerion, people will explode ;)

I real love this army and just picked up a box of sentinels and wardens. But… I don’t want to run teclis. I hate how big the model is… and I’m just really not a fan of it. I like most of everything else. But I’m worried that my army is going to extremely struggle if I don’t run him. As if teclis is auto include to be competitive. Is there a character, or a combination of a few characters I can take instead to make up for not having teclis?

Spoiler comment #2 . . . . The way I read it. Allarielle and the Nurgle forces were both travelling and fighting their way to the gate to stop the ritual. So Mannfred escaped while the Nurgle and Sylvaneth forces would meet at the gate and have a big scrap. Interested to see if Allarielle and Slimux had a fight.

That's fair, I can totally see that reading.

Tyrion is fighting Ptra, the Sun God and king of the Nehekharan pantheon, or the entire Pantheon who are coming back to reclaim what was stolen from them, Tomb kings rise again, we get a new faction with armies based from each Nehekharan god or goddess and that’s why Techlis took that jab at nagash because he knows nagash only came to power through trickery and theft, and the mortal realms will be turned to desert and sand if Tyrion doesn’t stop then from regaining their full potential power

You mean in reference to the battalion? I like Tzeentch, I hope we weren't too harsh, I just genuinely hate bubblegum horrors and find them a terrible experience. I like Tzeentch as an army, I have a 4K tzeentch army. :)

Also, as a Tzeentch guy myself, this Battalion Box does legitimately suck. It gives you no reason to buy it when there’s the much better Start Collecting box already out there that has much more variety. If this box came with the right amount of Blues/Brims to at least fill out the 10 Pinks splits, then maybe it would make more sense, but at this point, no Tzeentch collector needs more Pinks that don’t have the right amount of Blue/Brim backups ready to go. They really should have put off-meta kits in there and boosted them: Ogroid Thaumaturge, Curseling, Fluxmaster, and possibly a foot Magister could have really loved a push.

I'm with vince, i dont want Malerion to be the threat. I want demonic and monstrous looking creatures for his army, but I think Tyrion is off fighting some new horrible bad guy that Malerion is also off fighting, while he is manipulating everything.

Spoiler comment!!! . . . . I like to imagine a Freeguild general fighting off a Knight of Shrouds. Then the Knight flys off to fight Teclis. Freeguild general looks around to asses what’s happening and bark orders then gets crushed by the mortal body of the Knight of shrouds travelling at terminal velocity.

In regards to your anecdote about your friend buying the LRL Battletome instead of BR Teclis: while yes the split release for the faction was incredibly dumb, it is kinda the consumer's responsibility to do research to make smart purchases. The information is all over the place on the internet and there are myriad resources to go to: TGA, facebook groups, the AoS subreddit, GW's own news sources, here, ask other players in your local if there is new stuff you aren't aware of. Can't really get butthurt at the company when you aren't proactive about what you are getting into (not that your friend was getting butthurt, just kinda ranting at this point...) In other news, Cities is definitely turning into the Slaves to Darkness of Order. Functionally a bit different but hitting the same kind of versatility with crossover. But Slaves getting the "1 in 4" mechanic without the restrictions applied to allies would be cool. But I'm unsure how necessary that really is when S2D can largely be used without restriction in any of the 4 gods' allegiances.

It's a fair point, except that it shouldn't be necessary. If a consumer walks into a game store, sees the tome for their army, it should be the default right choice to purchase that thing. That should just be the right answer. I don't have time to research every purchase I make in my life. :) - It's just a better consumer experience. They can mitigate the problem, but it's still that, a mitigation, of a problem. :)

If you don't want spoilers stop reading this comment! Teckles is so short sighted it borders on stupidity . Yes it's funny he resurrected the ghosts back into mortals freeing them from nagash's curse and allowed them to fall and die... But because they died he inadverntantly sent their souls right back to nagash! Literaly would have delt a worse blow to nagash if he showed mercy and allowed the people he resurrected to live. Heck these poor peoole could have been useful as they may have held a grudge against nagash and could have worked with the lumineth to help over throw nagash and literaly be a perfect example to show the people of the realm of death that there is hope for those oppressed by nagash. The reason he could do it to a bone reaper is that person would be an abomination. One body with multiple souls now fighting for control of their one flesy body.

Whoever wrote teclis, watched Castlevania season 3 and saw the part where all those people fall from the sky.

wish there was some positivity toward Tzeentch. It's sad that comments like "it's the worst army" seem to permeate a lot of community stuff.

I think because it "cheats" it tends to rub people the wrong way, but I have no issue with it as an army, one of my regular opponents is Tzeentch and I have a Tzeentch army. :)

Tzeentch is actually a super rewarding army if you lean away from the meta. I actually find meta builds uninspiring, so it’s no sweat off my back that I just have to show people it can be a fun experience.

GW likes money and so they continue to make Death armies but narratively, they hate Negash. He’s supposedly, this vast, intellect but they have him bungle everything he does. He’s incapable of winning a fight with anyone in his weight class and the only thing GW seems to know what to do with him is have him go away for centuries at a time. And always after having gotten his @ss kicked. I was never looking for some final big, victory for Negash or anything, I wouldn’t even want that but his whole faction got devastated narratively. The Necroquake and Death’s “ascendancy” was just an accident he never intended and one that he couldn’t even capitalize on. Archaon rolls up and blows Katakros away like it’s nothing and then Teclis just decides to take Negash down and then he does it. Negash took a gate in the 8 Points and all it cost him was defeat on all fronts and the death of him and most of his Mortarchs, lol. I’m looking forward to the Gravelords but they could have gotten there to that narrative without ruining the character of Negash, which to me, they just did. How are we ever suppose to take him seriously again? At the height of his power, at Death’s Ascension, Negash’s whole faction gets beat by another faction and kind of on a whim. It’s Warhammer, it’s ok to lose sometimes but it’s about how you lose. Talk about doing the fans dirty. Ouch. I guess my consolation according to GW is to buy more models when the vampires come out.

I think we will get some good actions out of the gravelords, they just feel more dynmaic as characters.

@@VinceVenturella Not hard to be more dynamic than a character like Negash who, the only thing GW ever seems do with is kill off. Fist, I wonder how long he’ll be gone. Centuries in lore terms I’m sure, if not more. Then I wonder who will get to kill him next, when he comes back. Could be anyone at this point. Might as well make it someone from the Destruction grand alliance. That way he can go for the cycle. But it could be anyone. Because they just made Negash the lamest character in the game. Can’t do anything right. Can’t win a fight. Can never take him seriously again. Watch, when they do bring him back they’ll try to make it a big, deal. Like it’s something the realms will need to be worried about, lol. But we’ve already seen just how incompetent and ineffective he is, even at the “Death’s Ascension” (that joke never gets old) so the realms have nothing to worry about. GW likes Negash better as a rumor anyway. Maybe they should just keep him buried this time. In fact, I hope they do. Better he stays gone than to have GW further ruin him. Although at this point, the damage is done, I guess.

It's Tyranids. Just saying, no one would want them in the playground of AoS. Also perfect as a force of pure nature/destruction.

Nagash isnt a bad manager, GW are bad story writers. this whole narrative needed to be "Lumineth win at every single moment" there was no real "back and forth" it was just. lumineth win this lumineth win that lumineth win that, why? because they are lumineth bro.

Also, I dunno why you guys think Death being Order but with skeletons is a good thing. Its nice to have a grand alliance that is actually a single combined force, rather than all of them being different flavors of order.

My guess for Tyrion. Hes fighting Malerion, And that will be the 4th edition box set, Dropping tyrion half of Lumineth and Malerion Dark Elves.
