“The men of Averheim are more proud of showing off their mares grazing in their fields, than those they've wed, adorned in gowns while trotting across any ballrooms!” - Any noble of the Empire outside of Averland I sense a similarity in Averland's “angry sun” flag to the former flag of long-gone Solland. Coincidence? Due to also being a renowned, historical cattle capital astride a more-prominent river not far from a major mountain chain, Averheim demonstrates a stronger similarity to Calgary than Salzenmund does. The localized wine industry, too! As much as the Calgarians also share a reputation for being boisterous and blunt with Salzenunders, the traditonal populace of that so-called “Gateway to the West” of our reality would be more similar to those of Averland's political center. Ironically, set in the opposite, East side of the Empire. A “holiday destination”, indeed...that smells of manure, bovine and horse. The Pillar of Skulls is quite...gruesomely monumental, for any capital city. Notably, that it's built of Orc heads. I wonder what priests of Morr think. Since listening to your standout dual epic a step above typical WH Fantasy epics, of “Sword of Justice/Vengeance”, I always recall those descriptions and events whenever coming across Averheim's name. I had even recently begun re-listening to the first book mid-week, while waiting for your next weekend's latest novel. Truly, the longest visit to any Empire city related in a story, amid epically destructive events, of course. This city's garrison also presents a fashionably fatal figure in their fantastic uniforms. The soldiers' assymetrical design of their attire, along with some of that appealing red streaking through the black here and there, is eye-catchingly appealing. Having the fewest slums is a definite attraction. I suppose the would-be impoverished could be put to work on the surrounding land? The Battle of Averheim would be a crucial part of history I look forward to hearing about. Will the now-extinct “Averland Sunset” spray also be a part of your lore telling, Narrator? 😉 As much as Averhiem consecutively displays some similarities to our world as the capital of Nordland did, there's nothing else like the Old World. Which would make this city just as much of a mandatory destination for me to visit as the others so far. Thank you once again for your terrific presentation of this fascinating series, GDN. You got to love that openness in Averland Mike then the overcrowded this of the forest areas like the DrakWald are the great Forest but still Averland has its problems Like those hook gang's

@@donright4492 I would absolutely appreciate that comparitive, open space of plains and prairies, don. Especially in the midst (ideally, not literal 'mist' 😛) of those strong, consistent animal odours. Every metro area is potential host to some organized crime or another, and those hook gangs...yeah, they suit Averheim's distinct economy, and that also reminds me of personal experience from Calgary that's preferable to NOT experience!

I'm so glad you're doing this cities series, it's bringing back the joy i felt for the setting before The End Times (🤬🤬🤬🤬🤮) I for one wouldn't complain about an episode about Hergig and the smaller settlements, even if it's 2 or 3 to an episode 😁

3:56 a very ottoman inspired monument. Also [ SPOILER ] reading Sword of Vengeance was very sad and maddening to see the city turn into literal Sodom and Gomorrah. At least in the end it was purged.

@@GrimDarkNarrator indeed. I think it has the best description of the slow corruption of chaos. It also shows how desgusting and dangerous slaanesh really is. Too many times its overshadowed by the other three with the result that some forgets how deadly it really is.

this is a very overrated city capital within the Warhammer fantasy a lot of people talk about Altdorf Talabheim Are middenheim but look at Averheim as a place of light and openness and not As overcrowded and i set my character Lancer up from here as One his families second home area You got to say it's openness can be so welcoming then Great Dark Forest areas of the Empire
