“In honest service, there are commonly low wages and hard labour; in this - plenty, satiety, pleasure and ease, liberty and power. Who would not balance credit on this side, when all the hazard that is run for it, at worst, is only a sour look or two on choking? No, a merry life and a short one, that's my motto.” - Bartholemew Roberts, 1722 The set of passengers seen about ship in the very first image shown in the video look like they'd make up a company to form interesting tales of: a dwarf slayer, a witch hunter and a warrior priest. Along with a halfling on the dock, maybe. It's an ironic reflection to real Earth history that the Germanic-based Empire would be less accomplished at the art of sail than GW's fantasy-French. Ironic as the politics of the Sigmarites further into the future caused Marrienburg's superior navy to be relegated to Second Fleet next to Reikland's remnants by the reunited Empire. A second sacking of Marienburg is very embarassing (and a fourth!), but that's what the rulers and the Imperial Coast Guard itself get for becoming lax and letting the Keepers slip into ceremonial, wasting doldrums. That as many provinces of the Empire had their own individual, provincial navies at least later in the Empire's history is interesting. Perhaps if those had existed at the time of the Westerland city-state's repeated invasions the Emperor and nobles would have mustered those additional watergoing forces to defend or avenge. I do wonder if Tilea's Leonardo da Miragliano was one of the visitors to Marienburg during the time of the fractured Empire, to account additionally for the city's advancement of its maritime military. As much as the tallship portrait after 11:00 embodies the Old World craft, the other uncoloured, inked drawings are also great to look at - be they in mid-battle or of profile models; very period-atmospheric. The Warhammer Fantasy, obviously Norscan, interpretation of the longship is neat to look over, coming from the Chaotic North...but I'm more fascinated by the coolly-named Wolfships along with the Greatships. From these initial pictures, the greatships have a neat, pronounced lance-like prow yet the wolfships' triangular sail rigging and even more enhanced ram's head of a battering bow look sleeker, faster and more intimidating. Avast, Captain GDN. Though a not-prominent element to Imperial stories and lore, this history of its own Navy was as extensive and unexpectedly long-lived as the Empire itself is. Even though any navies from Altdorf, or would-be capital Nuln for that matter, would always be subject to the whims and seafaring control of Marienburg. I'm also very happy that you've gotten started on this subseries, Narrator. Even though my comment's being posted a day later than this introductory video was it's an aspect to Warhammerr Fantasy that I'm eager to know more of in-depth. The Age of Sail is uniquely intriguing. Having learned how to sail on the Pacific Coast, I can say that it's like flying across water. So with eager anticipation to the next, I bid you a healthy, happy and awesome coming week, GDN. May the blessings of Sigmar and Manann be upon you.

In the Naaaaavy! You can sail the seven seas. In the Naaaavy! You can put your mind at ease... except for the Aeldar. What a bunch of jerks.
