I was listening to the Soundtrack of a new game called Warhammer 40k Darktide a little over a week ago and came across a music video with same soundtrack and series. I had never seen or heard of the Angels of Death animation, created by Warhammer Storyforge and only heard of the Warhammer universe from a Henry Cavill interview.
Reading a few wiki posts, the amount of lore surrounding Warhammer is staggering. And despite perhaps not being well known to a lot of people, I think it's safe to say that the Warhammer fan base is a strong one.

I overlapped the soundtrack with the music playing in the background (Blood Debt) during the elevator scene. As in the series it's played at a rather low volume and having louder music helps make the transition to different scenes more seamless.
This was a painstaking and time consuming endeavor to finally get the timing almost right. Even though I had done it before. Gave up several times and finally used the 3rd horn in the track as a reference point.
With a 5 sec fade in the soundtrack fully kicks in right before it says [ominous music] - 1:00 - so in the end it worked out. Even when listening to it on high volume with headphones on.
This is as close to it as I was able to manage it on Shotcut. It's less than one frame difference compared to the previous placement. (And that was already the 4th attempt.) But when hearing two tracks playing at the same time, a very minor difference ruins it completely - even if you're partially deaf in one ear like me.
Surprisingly, the fade in duration of the soundtrack was also very important despite the timing being fairly right. I imagine 'cause the soundtrack plays at a higher volume so I needed it to kick in right before the 3rd horn sounds. Fading it in shorter or longer also bungled it up and instead of the horn, they overlap at the drums which sounded horrible.
I also tried continuing the light flicker until after Orpheo's close up. Not sure how I feel about that. I tried to copy and replicate the timing but Orpheo's scene ends in darkness, whereas in the prelude to the ambush it had to end in light. It's not the same. And when you edit these clips, watching every little bit at least a few dozen times, I imagine you look at things differently as opposed to watching it for the first time.
A fellow editor will recognize it immediately though. Maybe a steady brightness increase would've been better to make the scene transition.
Overlapping Blood Debt with Path of Trust went really well so I decided to keep that track. I think it worked out and (growing up with stories of King Arthur & The Sword in the Stone) I especially like the ending.

The Philosophy of the 'Life-Giving Sword' was perhaps first introduced by Yagyu Munenori and though it might sound counter intuitive, a very brief explanation of this Philosophy can be found in Hagakure: ''He argued, maintenance of a benevolent military government was vital for the well being of the realm. “At times because of one man’s evil, ten thousand people suffer. So if you kill that one man to let the tens of thousands live. Here, truly, the blade that deals death becomes the sword that saves lives.” In other words, the way of war was also seen as the way of peace.''
You often hear perhaps a comparable reasoning or justification in the military today. I.e. by taking the life of one enemy you end up saving many lives on your side.

This series embodies brotherhood and selfless action very well and it has quickly become one of my all time favorites. It's not perfect and some mistakes were made but the general feel and the voice actors are second to none.
A few cuts were made during the ambush to remove dialogue and insert my own. Problem was the volume of the shooting sound effects dip just before a cut, when one of the angels is forced on his knees, giving you the impression it's me doing it and making it less seamless.
To compensate a little for this I increased the general volume of Path of Trust, while lowering the combat sounds. I also added the 'Let Fury Be Our Voice' dialogue just before the combat volume picks up again to hopefully draw attention away from it a little.
Finally I upscaled the 720 quality to 1080.
I'm not a professional and I think regardless of someone's skill or bag of tricks, at some point we need to take a step back. This took me exactly a week to create and it was definitely one of the more difficult ones. It certainly belongs on the list of clips I'm most proud of. I hope you like it!

This whole part was just glorious. The fight with the hive tyrant or whatever that big bug is called, that was the highlight for me, the injured BA finally succumbing to the rage, only seeing Horus and yelling "What have you done!"... fucking chills man.

I just checked IMDB and it only has 477 votes. This is extremely low. Most of the things I cover on this channel are widely unpopular but even on those movies give or take 5k people left a vote on IMDB. They are not entirely unknown. In comparison, Edgerunners has 47k votes, and Arcane has over 200k IMDB votes. We can only hope more people will be able to watch Angels of Death at some point. Take care!

Very nice work, this is great! If you liked Angels of Death, I would recommend you check out Helsreach: it's a fan animation done by the same director, Richard Boylan. His work on Helsreach led to him getting hired to direct Angels of Death.

Love Helsreach! Bonus that it's about the Black Templars (My favourite chapter) didn't know Richard Boylan had anything to do with Angels of death. Explains why it's so awesome.
It is 6am. I am in my basement home gym that I have spent a small fortune on. It is the first week of my 16 week weight cut. I am tired, under fed and have a full work day ahead of me. I´ve got a basement home gym too and it is almost same hour 06:54. Honestly was having a bad couples weeks, more or less same reason, pretty tired of a weight cut, 13 of 14 weeks. Ur comment filled me up with energy. "Well met brother"

This was a beautifully synched video with the music. The best for me was easily 3:34-4:12 with how you paired the organ music with the increase in combat. But even that segment has a better part than the rest when you set the crescendo of the hopeful bit of the track with the Angel's silhouettes being lit up in the smoke right before they began their creeping firing line. Really well done!

I've read your description. That's some exceptional editing! Most of which I didn't even notice. I recently heard of Warhammer from a Henry Cavill interview as well and thought of looking into it. Too bad this series is so hard to get though.

Oh, thank you! This was definitely a labor of love. It took a little over 60 hours to make and it's still not perfect. Like the sound crackle @ 4:30. A simple fade out would've fixed it but I was too focused on getting the audio timing right in the elevator scene that I completely forgot or didn't hear it. I recently saw a compilation of Cavill interviews in which he mentions Warhammer and there're quite a few surprisingly. Anyway, thanks for watching!
The dialogue at the beginning is the most badass testosterone pumping dialogue I've ever heard. 🫡

I’m introducing two of my friends to 40k and their really into the lore. When Space Marine 2, releases we plan on running the co-op together. Since Im a lore nerd I’m gonna act as the chaplain of the squad. I am so ready for it and I hope to do Chaplains like Rafael proud even if we are the Ultramarines. Even if we March for macragge in SM2 I shall fight for the blood and honor of Sanguinius and for Baal.

Extremely good, although the Astartes wouldn’t miss. And would probably be using that shotgun-like bolt shell. Metalstorm I think it’s called. The one with the proximity fuse. Although, the blood angels have that bloodshard bolt shell (think that’s the name) that’s even better and somehow no one else thought of that uses monomolecular wire instead of pellets. That shell can even shred powered armor.

the captain is a terminator, one is a reclusiarch, one a heavy marine, and i think some of the rest are deathwatch even, they don’t carry standard astarted loadouts, and they weren’t missing there were just tons of bodies lol

It is! (and 4:55 is actually a Shadow Priest from the Mortal Kombat Konquest series.) Urban totally nailed that role as Dredd, and it baffles me why they never pursued a sequel or franchise with him in the lead. As much as I like Stallone & Max von Sydow there's no question who's the better Dredd in my opinion. More to the point, someone commented on my other Warhammer clip: ''I often catch myself judging the quality of a series by how compelling the supporting actors and roles are. In that sense, Angels of Death nailed it I think. Ship Mistress Solken & Chaplain Rafael really carved out their own place in the story.'' - I think that's very true. Best of luck to you!

My gripe is that, Space Marines do not fire blindly and as scene in Astartes ( here on youtube ) , Bolter rounds are devastating to Soft Targets and still oppressive to hard armoured targets with sustained fire. Counting the Bolter Fire vs the targets in this video and the time, leads to a heretical display. The Power Sword however..... Cut like a hot Razor through butter and I loved that a lot.

Yeah, for some reason KZread has blessed this clip for the last two months. 71% of the views are because KZread recommended it to people. Only 2.5% searched for it specifically.
