WG want players to play as many different tanks as possible, not just Progetto 65, Progetto 65, Progetto 65, Progetto 65 and Progetto 65 and 1000 times. WG nerfed the Progetto 65 to force players to try other tanks. This is why. :(

Has Wargaming checked the winrate for regular tier 8 tanks lately? There are vehicles with 44% winrate. If you are not playing a competive premium tank you are going to have a bad time. This is the issue Wargaming should be addressing.

Don't you see, this is what they want. WG wants you to have to buy their premium tanks to be competitive. They have succeeded at tier 8; it's almost impossible to be competitive at tier 8 playing tech tree tanks. Now they are slowly expanding this strategy into tier 9 and 10 over time. Little by little, you will have to spend resources and cash to get premium or special tier 9 and 10 tanks that keep you competitive in the game. It's all part of a long term marketing strategy that has nothing to do with game mechanics or what the community cares about.

For me, project 65 was made worse so that Lion had more relevance. Wargamning probably did this out of fear that, in a future assembly shop, it would prevent the community from thinking twice about buying an abusively expensive vehicle that was too similar in playability to a more affordable version.

The real reason they did the Progetto 65 nerf is FOMO. Releasing a better reward vehicle from the assembly shop and then nerfing the tech tree equivalent is a clear statement to the player base that WG will keep doing this in the future and that we the players should live in fear every time a new tank comes out. The community really needs to come together and protest against these predatory tactics!

@NatsumaRinn sure it does. The carro 45t is a sidegrade tank to the p65. They do different things. The Lion is a direct better version of the p65 with better gun and actual turret armor. People paid a lot for the Lion, and with the p65 nerfs, it makes it look even better.

Great points! You spoke out our points quicky! Another thing I am infuriated about is them calling players “so emotional”with regards to this nerf. We all know why we are “emotional” in their description: chieftans, 279es, super-expensive lions, OP premium tanks… That is not an excuse for wargaming to justify a nerf. Rather than calling out players as emotional, they should really consider why we are behaving as we do.

You can have all the stats you want but in the end it is the RNG that rules the game. Where are the stats for what that does to the game?

So... they made a tank that's fun the play, the whole point of the game, heavily incentivised people to play it and are now punishing the player base for it. Sometimes I wonder if the real reason they nerf things is because the Devs themselves get annoyed with tanks and not because there's anything wrong with them.

We all know the real reason it is being nerfed. Lion players have to be rewarded for all the resources that they spent getting it, and off course, WG want to keep their whales happy. I am also gutted as I just purchased my Progetto 65 after a hard grind. Now it will just gather dust as my UDES 15/16 seems to be so much better.

But that's not that unusual for them - in WOWS, the Zao, a currently bottom-of-the-barrel cruiser, hasn't been buffed for ages because it's popular anyway... weird decisions :/

I was just thinking the same. In WoWs the standard response when asking for buffs to "old" tier X ships is; "The ship is fine because it is popular". I.E. People still play it so it must be fine... They never answer questions on why this only applies to the oldest ship lines, and therfore the ships that most players have - naturally making them the most owned/played ships in the game. It seems the same flawed logic has crept over to WoT, sadly.

It *had* some armor (not anymore), kinda decent gun handling (not anymore) and speed (no more reverse speed tho). If it were as OP as you claim, it wouldn't be only 11th on winrate (48...% winrate, so not even 50% winrate) tl:dr ding dong your opinion is wrong

They've dropped the ball on this one big time. I'm angry about the progetto nerfs and I don't even own one.

It's not hard to figure out why the tank is popular while being balanced... It's unique and fun. No other easily accessible tier 10 has a play-style that even remotely matches the progetto. And while it's absolutely not overpowered, it's got a lot of characteristics that makes it enjoyable: fast, decent gun, good pen, sometimes functional armor. Punishing the playerbase for enjoying a vehicle instead of just... giving tech-tree alternatives is bat-shit insane. Like, bring the T-62A back as an auto-reloader, idfk. This is just stupid.

No. It is popular because it's easy to play and anyone can do very good in it because you can very easily clip other players fully with that tank.

@@philosophist9562 Being easy to play has nothing to do with popularity. The 430U is the easiest medium to play and is less popular than the bat-chat, which is arguably the hardest medium to play. Progetto also can't easily clip anything that isn't a tier 8. You have to reload at least 1round but most likely 2 before you can unload to kill something... that takes a long time.

QB is spot on. I’ve been in games where I was the last one alive in a high DPM tank and would usually be able to do 1.5-2k damage before being taken out.

I'm really thinking they had an internal fuck up with the Progetto 64 vs. the Progetto 65. Someone in a meeting said: The Progetto is over performing, we should nerf it. Someone took notes, looked up the Progetto in their tank list, filtered out the premium because they don't nerf premiums and continued with the Progetto 65. That's why the reasoning is bullshit: They had to find a reason and pulled something out of their arses.

War Gaming don't like it when you like a tech tree tank because you don't pay for it like you do with a premium vehicle. Not too hard to figure out.

I think all they wanted is to people feel like they missed out on Lion sale, and force them to participate more in the upcoming ones.

Good Job as always QB, this malicious nerf we (my friends and I) concluded (bec WG stll failed to justify what they are doing) was just to make the Lion unmatched in autoreloader tanks and thats it no more no less no justifications needed. Thank you for always taking into account the perspective of the community and also being as professional as representing the game itself. We still hope that WG will listen more to community rather than just checking on community and slapping us with such changes.

Can imagine they nerfed the progetto to make the lion keep its value.

I love this tank, so different and fun to play. Developers of games always have different thinking on things and unfortunately they made a bad decision on this. Just another step towards me leaving this game after 10 yrs. Wargamings right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing. Progetto 65 is super balanced but apparently they don't want balance... so I guess it is true that WG don't have a balance deparent they just want utter chaos.

This reminds me of the HE rework where "70%" wanted it, the next nerfs because of popularity is going to be the Maus, Udes 15/16 and Rinoceronte.

When they say something is over popular it actually means that they think that it is reducing sales of prem tanks.

I think they want the Lion to stand out and become a must-buy tank, it is what makes them money after all

Do you not think they might have realised this nerf was a mistake, but since they announced it, they feel like they can't undo it? Therefore they try to justify the decision by trying to think of a reason for nerfing it in the first place?

I think any team working in a professional setting would simply modify the edits back and say a mistake was made, pleasing both the angered players and making no dramatic stance. After all, a point of pride seems fruitless vs. the rewards of undoing the nerf, if they did make a mistake.

Same with me. I got the progetto 65 during the last top of the tree. It's my only tier 10 medium tank. And I don't even play it much as it's kinda crap. I'm not new player I have 160 tanks and have been in the game since 2014. I have nearly all tier 9 mediums, but didn't get the tier 10 ones as I generally like the tier 9 ones and didn't have the resources and time to go to tier 10 and frankly many of the tier 10 ones aren't very attractive. So these idiots are now nerfing my latest tier 10 tank for no reason whatsoever. I'm more annoyed by the Standard B nerf though tbh, as I like it more then the Progetto 65.

Two years ago - I bought some boosters for the Progetto 65. Month later they nerved it - my consequence: I deleted my account... Never coming back. This game is a waste of time, money, and health.

Well, they are different playstyles imho. Progetto fires every 2.5 seconds, lion every 4.5, so a progetto can burst out a lion at close range no problem. They are nerfing the accuracy and gun handling so that progetto players are forced to play at close range to hit their shots and do the burst damage, while lions are best played like a single shot tank. I don't think the progetto should get nerfed, but i do not think its getting nerfed because of the lion, because they've already sold the lion. There is no need to make the lion better in comparison, because the people that wanted the lion already have it, so why cater to them? I have the Lion, i don't think the progetto is a problem or unbalanced, so if they do nerf it "to improve the lion", i feel like its somehow my fault even though i ( and other Lion owners ) have never asked for this.

Why? They already sold it, they've got the money so they don't care. You won't be able to get the Lion for another 2-3 years (previous assembly shop tank wasn't available in any other way yet).

you have to be very carefull when comparing tank stats because the kind of players that play the tank have a huge impact on the outcome. Look at for example the manticore with the highest winratio by far. Thats because only good player play that tank and below average players dont.

I agree with every word you said. I really don't get it, why they would nerf a tank that is popular and fun to play even when it is not that good.

Announcing the nerf of a tank just when a similar premium tank was being placed in the game. Coincidence? I think not!

Two things come to mind: 1) WG saw the Progetto have a so far unseen rise iun popularity compared with all other tier X mediums, 2) The balance team didn't communicate with any of the event team about what could have caused that rise. The Leopard 1 is the king of popularity, why wasn't that nerfed? And why weren't the actual top performing tier X mediums touched? Do WG have some other statistics they see, or is this like the Mechwarrior Online debacle from March 2021 when they pushed a patch based on seriously outdated information!? The only two statistics I can see where the 65 is performing better than every other tech tree tier X medium is on the EU server, where it is top Frags/game and KD ratio, the latter of which it is joint with the Leopard and CS-63.

Seriously, I have never looked at the enemy team, seen a progetto and be filled with a sense of dread. I look at a progetto as a balanced tank that I can have a good chance of playing well against because it is balanced.

The Lion will no doubt pop up in maybe 12 months time for REAL money, either in another event, black market, or even in the store for some extortionate amount. It's the only reasonable explanation for the Progetto nerf.

Thanks for a very well- reasoned protest about the way Wargaming tries to make all tanks equal. If that's what they want they just need to make one of each type of tank. Part of the attraction of this game is that, over time, you discover that certain tanks, because of their differences, suit your style of play. I don't play the Leopard 1 or the Progetto 65, but I know they are tough tanks to deal with and they attract players who are usually pretty good, so therefore they may seem overpowered. I wince every time WG announces that they are "balancing" anything.

Just to point out something: AMX M4 54 has a worse gun handling now than it was before the 1.18 improvements; aim time, and dispersion are worse including during traverse

Wagen is getting buffed XD, they have no logic actually.

If you have any suggestions, you can post them on the official forum. " After tens of thousands of games and over a decade of play, we just do not understand the nuances of the game.

I love how we love WG for doing a step forward then proceeds to do 3 steps back. wtf.

The reason they are doing this is to effectively buff the Lion. People weren’t interested in it because it was to similar to the Prog.

This is basic economics, by reducing the value of the progetto, they hyper increased the value of the Lion. So by announcing a nerve of the progetto they added extra subjective value to the Lion pre-assembly, therefore guaranteeing an absolute sale of the tank.

But they sold the lion first and then they announced the proghetto nerf? They will probably never sell lion again, no one colud know that they would nerf the proghetto

Not surprising to me an ex-wows player. I remember sometimes ago that they nerfed the Japanese tier X cruiser Zao because it was 'too popular'. Looks like the wot team learned from the wows team.

If WG want to nerf a tank because of how popular it is, why don’t they just buff other med tanks so it can be more competitive and popular?

Problem is progetto isn't popular because its more competitive than others... Its got autoloader, diferrent playstyle than others, its unique, whereas other mediums have tanks that are simular to them. If WG want to nerf popularity in a balanced way, adding another tier 10 autoloader tech tree medium would be most fair, rather than buffing tanks - cause they're buffing centurion. But tanks are so different they people Who enjoy and want to play a tank like progetto still want look at cent as comparable option.

I was surprised to see whoever wrote the article literally used “2” as “to” in it.

Can we get a meme with Wargaming as Thanos throwing the Progetto off the cliff as the Progetto tries reminding Wargaming that they are the reasons why the Progetto became “too popular”

From the NA server, I have seen it many times the progetto 65 camping at the back like a leopard 1 unit the end of the match, it's always a progetto.

@@bradlyfan That is fine, my anidotal evidence is just my experience, which could for sure be wrong, as it is just an opinion backed by no evidence or facts. That said, I see very commonly-- enough to give me some thought, camping prog65s.

they are definitely nerfing the tank just so that players will grind for (OR SKIP WITH $$$) other tanks. wargaming just wants more money.

Allow me to translate wargaming's reasoning for nerfing Progetto: "We are going to nerf the Progetto to make Lion the absolute ultimate top performing Italian medium as thanks to all the players that filled our pockets getting it. Also we are money hungry assholes, world of tanks is just a cash cow as we have no idea what happens in our game and we never gonna nerf the Chieftain or 279. Thanks losers :)"

As I have said in the recent past, WG designers are not playing their own game and they do knot know shit about the game itself... just making random changes or according to sales department directions!

Well stated, sir! It definitely causes some head scratching and appears quite arbitrary when a good (not great), fun tank to play is being penalized without valid justification.

Great job QB. It was nerfed when the Carro was introduced and now with the Lion as well.

QB, pls read this! They changed the minimap in 1.20. the tank's name appear inverted now, when the text previously went out of the minimap border, so that you can read the enemy tank's name. But it is very bad now, since the text makes you think the enemy icon is on the other side, sometimes you can't even see the icon, because of the text positioning. WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT

and don't forget that with the LION event (me included) everyone played their progetto to get up to speed for the lion. Not just gamestyle but crew training as well. I think the Progetto 65 is/was one of the most fun tank to play. Not because its OP but because its consistent, like the leopard1 or the STB1. Really sad WG nerfs this tank.

Loved my standard, have the progetto ready to buy but since they announced 1.20 i just bought my deathstar instead

I m sure that the problem of the progetto is not the popularity, it is that it is the weapon of choice for 3 ppl platoons that want to destroy mm. As is the Bourasque in tier 8. Just prohibit people from entering a premade platoon with more that one auto(re)loaders and everything will be alright

It was already nerf’d years ago when I quit playing that game. Literally was my favorite tank. When u earn a tank they nerf it, but they won’t dare nerf a premium tank.

The REAL reason they're nerfing the '65 is pretty obvious: There's no Russian tanks in the Top 5. Any other reason is just too stupid to consider, given the '65 was Top of the Tree AND Battle Pass within the time period.
