Great workmanship and attention to every detail, you should be very proud. Your work as a team with your wife reminds me of the building I did with my wife when I was a young man. Although the joints weren't nearly as complicated and I was framing in Australian hardwood. I'd really like to know what part of Japan you are living in ?

Square drive(Robertson), torx ,Phillips are used all over now days . Personally i like torx .

my guess is, earthquakes are bigger concern for Japanese builders.

金物ですが、現代の木造は硬く硬く考えられているので金物で固めるのが良いでしょう。伝統工法で金物なしで考えるなら貫をメインに水平方向の力を逃がしてあげ柔らかく構築するべきですが、その場合、地震時の柱の傾斜を許容する計画にしないといけないのと柱を太くして傾斜復元力の効果を考えないといけません。 また、外壁の建材も面剛性を考慮しないといけません。胴縁も柱に合わせて変形しますので外壁の稼働範囲を考慮しないと地震で割れます。 現代の建材を用いて高気密・高水密な構成をするなら金物を採用しカッチカチに耐震するのが方向としては正解だと思います。もちろん都度メンテナンスできる技量をお持ちなのでどう組み合わせても問題ないと思います。 正解は目的に応じて答えが変わるが答えかと。
