i’ve been on the minimalist road since about 2015 as well, and i’ve done several culls through the years since then. just a couple of weeks ago i rearranged my bedroom and did another, felt great. as for my wardrobe, it’s been pretty basic for quite a while now. i wear a uniform to work so that’s that. the rest of the time, i routinely go through about a dozen pairs of comfortable pants and 20 or so graphic tshirts. there’s about 20 nicer items that i keep on hand for special occasions, all tucked into one corner of the closet. i live in north carolina so outerwear for colder months doesn’t need to be a lot - couple of hoodies, a denim jacket, and a thick coat when needed. and i only have 5 pairs of shoes, three in constant rotation and two nicer pairs. that’s it. keep going and you’ll find your sweet spot. we all do ❤

I feel like having spontaneous videos like that with random thoughts in process is very fresh, and it'd be nice to see more of these popping up among the «regular» videos from time to time.

Thanks buddy, I’m glad to hear you like the format! I’ll try to do something like this again in the near future as I continue with the declutterring process 👍

I think culling pieces of less-worn items of clothing now and again is a great idea. It frees up space in the closet and is also useful for the recipient who may be able to enjoy the clothes better than we do. Thanks as always for the inspiration!

Thanks for the comment :) I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It’s really nice to know that my unworn clothes are going to be appreciated by someone else rather than collecting dust or going out of style in my closet. I’d much rather have a small wardrobe of pieces I regularly wear than a huge wardrobe of occasionally worn items that I don’t overly love

Recently did a major declutter myself and it was so liberating! Now trying to keep myself from bringing more crap in, which I'm finding is probably the most challenging part.

It is such a relief to be free of the junk isn’t it?! I have a collector mindset oftentimes, so I have the same issue trying to keep new stuff from coming in. It’s a process but it’s certainly worth trying! Thanks for the comment :)

Minimalism feels very lonely when you go too far. The only thing left is yourself (not literally) and it’s a bit a of sad lonely mental battle after that. I feel I’d be more free if I no longer had to think about it

Yeah I think minimalism forces you to come up with your own identity that doesn’t centre around your things - that’s where that empty feeling comes from when the stuff is gone. A lot of people spend their whole lives working to buy fleeting pleasures, and if you get off that treadmill and go without, then you need to find out what you really want. Reflection is essential during the process so you can fill your life with non material pleasures as you declutter the junk. Thanks for the comment!

Nice job Spencer. Would love to see scaling down of media (VCR tapes, vinyl records) or household items (kitchen, bathroom, etc). Cheers, great video!

I will definitely make a future video on these specifics - I’m currently working through minimizing these items so will be sure to discuss later!

I recently started to focus on the material I am wearing which made it easy to declutter all the polyester in my closet . I like how cotton linen wool feels on me. When I’m tempted to buy cheap clothing, I look at the material and that easily stop me

I love that approach of filtering wardrobe options. I have a few items that are polyester, but for the most part it’s cotton or wool. Those items feel nicer, and I like that I’m not wearing a bunch of plastic 👍

Loved the vibe of this one! Super relatable, did a video a few months back where I stuck with the same seven shirts for a month straight to see how I liked it. And now, starting a month back, I have boxed up a majority of my clothes and just stick with my seven tie dye shirts and cargo shorts, along with a few odd shirts to wear around the house. I'm overly sentimental as well so I find it hard to bite the bullet to get rid of my old clothes (doesn't help that I have some really cool stuff too, lol) but maybe I will donate them to my gf or something, haha.

Glad to hear you’re doing this also! I love giving my old stuff to people I know - that way I know I can get it back if I ever want it (at least I have a chance if I beg)
