@Not all Gaming I don't have a great knowledge of war history, and I'm not really sure of an easy way to search "AA gets medal for ground duty." But I do watch this one KZreadr who makes great videos about historical battles and events. In Operation Desert Storm, LAV's equipped with the GAU-12/U 25mm Gatling Gun fought back an Iraqi counterattack consisting of T-55's and Bmp's. The commander of the LAV platoon was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions in leading his LAV's to fight off the counter attack. This sussy-looking website also gives the same description of events: armchairgeneral.com/operation-desert-storm-20-years-later.htm Now you could argue that these are not the LAV-AD's (AD meaning air defense) that we see in-game (War Thunder), because I'm not exactly sure which LAV variants those were. However, they WERE using the exact same 25mm cannon that we see on the AD variant. In addition, the LAV-AD's also have the ability to equip rocket pods, further showing that they could also be used in the anti-tank role. This example I have given you shows someone getting "a medal for ground duty" as you have requested. It is pretty commonly known that the M16 with 4x .50 caliber machineguns used during world war two were also effective in the anti-infantry role. "The M16 was normally used as a ground support weapon. It was very effective in this role and earned the rather gruesome nickname of 'meat-chopper'." I thought the nickname was 'hay-maker,' but they say something else. I yoinked this quote from a '.org website' but it too looks a little old/sussy: www.historyofwar.org/articles/weapons_M16_MGMC.html Similar to the M16, the ZSU-23-4 "Shilka" has been used for a very, very long time. And as such, what it's been used for continues to change. I have, once again, yoinked another quote, again from an older-looking website, saying " [The Shilka] is commonly used to surpress [sic] ATGM launch sites, such as TOW vehicles." This is an easy example of SPAA being used in a ground support role once again. @@CrabbyPattyMoox 1) if an ADV must fight ... it will fight ^^ no role while the enemy shoot at you 2) AA can fight tanks, infact there are belts made for pen and not for shatter modern vehicles are weak against suppression barrage of shells, IRL when you are damaged you are out of combat, every vehicle 3) the problem with WT is 1 and only 1, ALL TANKS shoot at planes then they are killed by the enemy, AA wait like idiots enemy tanks for side kills the roles are inverted and the team suffer im tired to see IDIOT BRAINDEAD NOOBS think WT is CoD or Apex and play like and idiot, WT is a wargame based on real vehicles, is not halo with jumping jeeps my rant is about the fact roles are TOTALLY INVERTED desert storm couldnt be won if tanks waited with guns at the sky for planes....and AA push against T55 like chickens plus i dont understand the fact players want to lose and take few points then call for free parts ... this is so stupid ! peoples are stupid ! 4) ill watch the videos and data with calm, always enjoy war knowledge ^^

What’s better a sergeant York or a veak 40?

I'm in a rough spot with the York. From what I understand it's a good SPAA, but my experience trying to grind it has been horrible without the proxy. It now losing it's ability to fight tanks has made that even worse. You can't defend yourself against ground vehicles, and you can't engage aircraft effectively without the proxy, meaning no kills, meaning longer grind, meaning no proxy. Feels like stock HEATFS but worse

With the proxy, it's REALLY good against planes. Maybe even tied in efficiency with the Ottomatic for radar cannon SPAA... However, unlike the Ottomatic, the York really can't fight tanks anymore, and it sucks. Not much we can do. If the AP-T never existed on the York, then it is what it is. I'm just glad I got the HE-VT before it was required for the York to be playable.

I'm in the same pickle as you. The sheer amount of mods you need to even be able to research the proxy shells, combined with how slow RP gain is without premium (I'm happy getting 1-3 aircraft kills in a match, but it gives agonizing RP), and not to mention the vehicle is so slow that you can't get caps... it's rough. One day I'll get proxy and will think the M247 is one of the best vehicles ever, but until then it's just rough.

i just went for tracks on anyone i saw to get as many potential assists i could. i rarely bothered with aircraft unless they were going on an attack run in a straight line or were close helis.

@@CrabbyPattyMoox The problem is to me, that they dont even let you take a full load of prox fuse shells at the very lease. you have to take half proxy and then half full of a shitty belt regardless of what you choose because not a single other belt has proxy fuses in them.

VEAK 40 stays at 8.7 and York goes down. Problem solved. EDIT: YALL NEED TO SHUT.

Nice, now sweden doesn’t have a viable anti air until 8.7. Also Sweden doesn’t have a single other 8.7 vehicle so it’s more like until 9.0. I wouldn’t say „problem solved”.

The issue with the M247 at its current BR. Is that it routinely uptiers against helicopters with atgms that out range it, or allow it to fire and dip behind cover.

I took the M247 into a test drive the other day, to see what the SAPHE could do And Gaijin, with their amazing spaghetti code, has seemingly botched the overpressure effect of these shells You can fire _one shot_ at basically any tank’s engine deck, and they instantly die to overpressure. Honestly quite incredible.

plus finally the tungushka is at 11,0 rather than 10,7

I'm guessing some of the things that made the York be higher in BR are the armor and the belts, there was also an error on the armor layout of the York that made it overperform and was fixed a while ago, something about a ridiculously thick shield between the guns and the crew or something like that Although it is kind of weird how HEVT clips( 🤓) are a tier 1 mod for the VEAK while the York's HEVT belts are a final tier mod Edit: Not really sure if the VEAK has the search function or not, but I imagine the continuous fire from belts could've helped to keep the York higher

The VEAK has a lead indicator (what is a "search function?"). The VEAK also has continuous fire, the clips reload instantly, and switching ammo types is also very fast. In my opinion, the ammo mechanics are better on the VEAK. Fast switching, and still doesn't stop (not including over-heating). You can also choose to have more HEVT than the York, or more AP-T(which the York doesn't have).

Yeah, for all I can see the VEAK was just as good if not slightly better in everything but armor, but still, gaijin balances things weirdly and a lot of times only taking the stats on paper Also, the search function is the one that shows triangles (I think) on your HUD in the direction of targets inside the detection area Edit: More reasons to put the York and Veak closer in BR then

@@CrabbyPattyMoox it has search but the radar does not TWS (aka search while track) , since the radar switches to track mode making you lose situational awareness. plus the radar on the VEAK does not feature IFF, this is very important when playing in SIM as you can easily nuke friendly planes from 2km+ if you dont have IFF.

If we're going by "realism", the Mig 9 was a Soviet parade plane that couldn't fire it's main armament. The exception being, it had to be in level flight, and only at a certain speed. However, I hope Gajin doesn't implement that Mig 9 realism, it's one of my favorite jets. Gameplay, not random factoids, are what matter most.

personally i think its perfectly fine to give a tank ammunition it never fired as long as the gun is capable of firing it. i think one of the most retarded defenses people make sometimes is that (x) plane/heli shouldnt have (y) ordnance because there arent fucking pictures or video proof it was ever equipped onto it. Yet it is capable of carrying, operating, and firing/dropping the ordnance. A great example is the A-10s.... they have different ordnance options for no reason other than artificial nerfing. Both planes are exactly the same beyond engine power yet they are both artfiicially limited in ordnance options. The premium should be able to take 4x AIM-9Ls and both should be able to equip the same ordnance as the other. People say the Late shouldnt get gunpods because US stopped using them by then, but it can carry, operate, and fire them so its just a dumb argument. Another example is why cant i put TOW launchers on my apaches instead of hellfires if i want, or equip AIM-9Ls like the first one can?? they can equip, operate, and fire them.. theres no good reason i shouldnt have those options; as well as captured aircraft not being able to use ordnance too.

@@fire_drake12.arc.24 Oh, and here's some further evidence to back up your claims. Last month, the Ukrainian Air Force's MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters employed US-made AGM-88 High-speed Anti-Radiation Missiles. That factoid would probably go over like a turd in a punch bowl with that lot lol.

If tanks only got shells that they would have historically used things would be different in game... This isn't the first time they technically done something like this. Years ago the IS2's and other similar 122 guns from around that time got post-war shells ie the top shell for the IS3 and IS4.

The VEAK being a lower BR and the York being a higher BR is thanks to an issue with the VEAK and a bug with the proxy on the York that was fixed awhile back, the York's proxy fuse used to be able to destroy planes by not even coming close to it, I'm talking you could completely miss by over 25m and still completely disintegrate a plane for the VEAK, the proxy fuse used to be literally worse than normal AP or HE as destroying planes, you could *directly hit* a plane, and it would do 0 damage, the VEAK was next to useless while the York was probably the single best SPAA at 8.3 (aka extremely OP), so it went up in BR to 9.0 however a decent bit ago they did 2 things, fixed the Yorks proxy so its no longer ape shit insane at destroying planes, and fixed the VEAK proxy so it, you know, does damage (they basically became identical rounds in terms of performance). but you know gaijin, they wont change BRs even after they fix something like that, also I think the fact the York is played a whole hell of a lot more than the VEAK helps it in the fact its a higher BR

my favorite SPAA with a highly questionable br is the wz305. the zsu 57-2 is already an excellent vehicle but it takes a lot of skill to land hits with its cannons. the wz turns those highly skillful, somewhat luck based shots into relatively easy extremely consistent kills with its comically powerful 6m proxy fuze shells. I wish I was joking when I say its nearly as lethal as an OTOMATIC but without radar at 8.0 br.

I died inside after I saw the sap shells only have 38 mm of pen :(

I'm always unhappy with them "suddenly finding historical data proving it should lose this thing it has in game" and then the vehicle becomes unplayable, they move it down in BR, it proceeds to crush low BR vehicles... they do nothing about it.

meanwhile me: got destroyed within 1,5 seconds frontally by york, reason? overpressure, and I was in T80B

I did something similar in the video with the VEAK. HE is super weird. 90% of the time it doesn't work, but when it does, it's incredible.

I do wish that the SAPHE had just a little more penetration to make it a legitimate threat to any light tank at least.

Imo the zsu-37-2 could receive a hevt round, get uptiered to 8.3 or 8.7, and the zsu-23-4 could go to 7.7

@@CrabbyPattyMoox ZSU-37-2 didn't, but the AZP S-60 gun on the ZSU-57-2 could fire 3UO6 HE-VT shells.

i really hope sweden gets an 8.0 SPAA or something, the 8.3 sweden lineup is honestly good and the VEAK 40 moving up is a huge blow for it. whats even worse, the VEAK 40 is literally the only 8.7 vehicle in sweden, so we cant even bring any new tank/helicopter/aircraft that we could not bring when it was at 8.3.

Can't wait for the inevitable video on the is-2 going to 6.0

I have never really like the IS-2, and I haven't really gotten any modifications on it. Not liking it is just my opinion though, and from what I hear a lot of people say it's good/fun to play. TL;DR: I won't be making a video on the IS-2 any time soon (and not the Kugel either).

The York is better than the veak in a few ways. But the veak is better in a few ways. The York gets search radar while locked on, and identifies friendly vs for targets. It also doesn’t reload every few seconds, and has better armor and survivability against strafes. The veak is more maneuverable and has a lower BR. At the same BR, I’d take the York all day, even if just for radar purposes. Btw, the York losing tracers was a huge buff for it imo.

The issue is its lineup. Between 8.0 and 9.0/9.3 there is nothing of any value. The only thing they could realistically do is buff the York. They bring it down to 8.7? Barely helps it in any way. They bring the Byork up to 8.7 or 9.0? We just bring another 'Gun that looks up tank' to a tier where a lot of missiles exist. The Byork is one of the most powerful AA's for its tier, no doubting that, but the York does need its AP shells back, replacing the SAPHEI or come to a compromise and put APHE in there like practically every other tank of its kind does in non NATO countries.

Check out Turnys recent vid on this thing. Using the m811 fuze delay shells, he kills many mbts...easily. He calls it broken too!

Stupid that they got rid of the AP, and where is the Falcon in all this?!?!

Can we please get Gaijin to revisit the M60A3 TTS? It's like actually laughable that it has end-of-line module research costs for it being such a mediocre 9.0 tank. I decided to give it another shot a few days ago, and I'm already considering giving up on it, again, because it's just...not good. And besides, the xm-803 is the SAME br, so I'm like losing my mind trying to rationalize playing the TTS instead.

I find that the M822 rounds, which are suppose to be the actual anti air rounds, are pretty much useless. I just use the M811 fuze delay rounds instead. And I rarely run out of the first set of ammo before dying to some op jet with tv guided missiles or drones that are literally impossible to see/lock on to.

What? You use the SAPHE for tanks (the M811), and HE-VT proxy fuse for planes (the M822)? Is that not how everyone uses it? That's what you're supposed to do right?

Not sure if Sky Fartians has changed this, but the M811 "Fuze Delay" aka SAP does have some ability to overpressure. Should you rely on this? Absolutely not, it's very inconsistent. Does it justify this vehicle staying at 9.0? I wouldn't say so.

They nerfed the bollocks off of this yet they forgot the VEAK-40 which does the same thing as the M247 SGT York and it's at 8.7 with 97mm of penetration, the York needs to go down to 8.7 because it's not that great at 9.0 especially when you have the MIM-72 Chaparral at 9.3.

I have great success with M247 (against air) one of my top vehicles, thats with proxy rounds. Probably one of the worst stock grinds i have been through though (have the whole us tree), its useless without proxy. I often use it in up to 10.0 games, but it really suffers against drones, they always get the jump if you dont hide, which can be impossible on some maps, its been slightly better after the drone nerf but still a pain. I think it should go down to 8.7 because of its effective range.

Meanwhile, Flak panther still exists

2:15 is nobody gonna talk about the fact it has no tracks here?

oh so they fixed the york being able to kill t-72's from the front with HE belts then? because if not it really can still fight tanks a bit.

The proxy fuses turning invisible in my opinion as an AA secondary main justifies it being put up to 10.0. WHen fighting the York you have to know when it´s shooting at you, as you are dead if you don´t pull any manouvers, the fact that you have to rely on seeing the muzzle flash or RWR, which not a lot of planes have at that BR makes it almost impossible to fight for planes in an actual battle situation where you don´t know if someone has spawned in it or not. The VEAK 40 also belongs at 9.7. AA should be balanced around their main role of taking out aerial targets, with anti-tank capibilities only being a factor to up it´s Br if an AA-Vehicle is very good at it.

I bring this thing to 11.0 as my staple AA (Too poor for ADATS) and it's still amazing. The lack of tracers plus proxy fuse shells make swatting MiGs feel like you're on easy mode

At least US players have the ADATS to look forward to. Type 93 missiles don't work half the time and it has no defense against ground targets, and that is the best AA japan gets.

oh, and they just boosted the r3 to 5.7....AND NERFED IT, I WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING IT, NOW IT CAN FACE TIGER 2s WTF IS THE THOUGHT PROCCESS

i find the AP nerf of the york a good thing personally fart hunter had a CAS problem for a long while now, and i think one of the reasons why it was so bad is that players used SPAA as tank hunters rather then SPAA because of their fire rate, good belts and dirt cheap SP i am of the opinion that most SPAA shouldn't have APDS or if they do they should hold it in very limited numbers like on the gepard style SPAAs found in the german japanese chinese and british TTs obviously WW2 stuff shouldnt necessarily get this nerf since part of their role is also fire support sometimes but when planes get a lot deadlier and tech trees start to get good SPAA it should emphasize anti air usage over tank hunting. You have IFVs for tank hunting

That SAPHE shell is wierd... Packing more explosives than a dedicated HE shell? Fine. One shot T-72s and T-80s by scraching the radiator at completely unrealistic angle? Fine. One shot any russian tank by touching the driver's optic? OK lol...

For whatever reason a country that is not know for their use of stingers has the only vehicle in the game in which stingers work somewhat consistently

I have legit 670+ games in that thing, it was the "old reliable" of my top tier line up (Even with the M1A2), I could always rely on it to get me the spawn points needed to re enter the battle after getting my shit stomped by the T-80's. Weather it was planes or committing T&BT to what ever enemy came around the corner I could always rely on it (until a fuck bag in a KA-50 showed up). I swear Gaijin just couldn't help them selves from making my Ground RB experience pain. Their excuse of it not carrying the ammo is BS, THE THING DIDN'T EVEN WORK IRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now I have no good SPAA for top tier because the ADATS is a TD, the LAV lacks a search RADAR and the XM975 has no gun

@@casematecardinal The only SPAA that should have gone up in the last BR patch was the 2S6, the rest were fine. Gaijin needs to stop putting a bias to the "balancing" of USSR and German vehicles. Gaijin needs to add something that's comparable to 2S6 in every other nation, because it's not inherently OP, other nations need something similar, and said vehicle should not be classed as a Tank Destroyer (*cough* *cough* ADATS) and Gaijin should nerf the Vikhr so hard that a Type 64 ATGM is a more effective weapon Fuck Ka-50's

I don’t see why any non-missile AA is above 8.3. Imo ALL radar AA right now should be going down 0.3. Gaijin seems to think AA and air vehicles should have the same ability to kill each other. That’s so untrue, teh only reason you should be spawning AA is to help your team clear the skies of pesky CAS. They should NOT be on equal terms this is not air RB. The AA should always perform to a level where it can clear the skies

I like both the york and veak.

I've been able to kill the t80s with the Yorks high explosive belts on many occasions the armor piercing wasn't a big deal imo

York is fine at 9.0 not having tracers mean you pop planes that had no idea they were being targeted. The saphe would be fine if HE wasn't giga nerfed from back when the m4a3 105 nuked tanks. York can still kill nearly any tank randomly with overpressure. You have to aim for cupolas, sights and mgs or right above the hull roof. The only issue I have is that HE can't break barrels at all so you have to get that random kill instantly or die. Also veak was sitting low for a long time because its radar was busted and would not give you a proper lead.

Thanks for the tips on the York! I wrote the script and was really annoyed that the M247 was still at 9.0. But then I played it a bunch and I agree that the York is fine where it's at.

But the M163 at 7.7 is a huge funny

A reason for the VEAKs low BR could be because without it at a low BR, Sweden wouldn't have any viable SPAA for their 7.7 and 8.3 lineup (No the Lvkv 42 is not a viable SPAA at 8.3). Now that the VEAK is at 8.7 (still a rank 5 vehicle) You can pick to uptier your 7.7 vehicles to 8.7(possibly 9.7), uptier your 8.3 vehicles to 8.7 or wait until you get the one tank that is at 9.0 and use that with the VEAK. Don't get me wrong, the anti air is great but the lineups for it sucks so badly now.

So when you need to prove a point using a tank you don’t have and can’t grind to, the solution is grinding a 5k+ KZread channel to ask for a test drive. I’m gonna note that down.

Honestly the York at 9.0 is fine by me. But the veak should go at 8.7. Especially when I consider the Chinese 40mm proxyfuse, but without any radar sits at 8.0, but is far worse than the Veak at only .3 difference and the veak is not that much worse than the York at .7 difference.

Radar kinda sucks. Too high: doesn't work. Too low: doesn't work. I haven't really had the chance to play with "really good" radar. Even the ADATS isn't perfect.

I wounder if you could do a video about cas, and the proposal of a tank only mode along ground rb, it seems to have something so divisive

CAS wouldn't be the big a deal if more people added vehicles to their lineups to counter them. I have fighters in my GRB lineups because CAS players are essentially SL piñatas and im not even that good a pilot. Although I do wish US had Spaa that's wasn't ass or low tier.

I think that most people, including myself, don't really care about the scout drones because they are just short of completely useless. Sure, if you're in a squad you can ping, or tell your teammates where the enemies are, but I haven't used it enough as it seems really boring. I assume that most people don't want to stop playing the game just to tell their teammates where the enemies are, so that they can be the one to get the kills. There is no reward for the scout drone like there is with the scouting ability. The attack drones are a whole other thing. I like that they are at a high enough battle rating to usually see SPAA that can kill them, but idk. I don't have a great idea for how to improve the drone idea. I think that drones are cool. I like that they were added, it's a fun idea. Unfortunately, that idea doesn't seem to be executed in the best possible way. Should it cost spawn points? Should it work similar to the scout drones? Should there be a timer on the drones so teammates don't spend 10 minutes trying to re-arm? Should they spawn at a lower altitude? So many other directions this idea could go, but the way it is right now just doesn't feel right. Either way, I'm not really all that upset by the attack drones. I have played a lot of top tier (with the drone), and the only thing that's annoying about them, to me, is shooting them down using a plane. Such a small target, and most of the time the damage just isn't enough.

@@CrabbyPattyMoox tbh i use the scout drone more as a kamikaze drone to take out Helis and i agree that attack drones should be lower in altitude but i think the attack drones could repair on Helis pads and have a air spawn when done the repair,and make then easier to destroy,sometimes they can tank alot rounds and fly like nothing happend

The XM975 was moved to 10.3, so I don't think the LAV will go to 9.7. Yeah, the stingers suck, and yeah losing tracers reaaaally sucks. I mean, no tracers on the LAV is actually horrible, and worse than the M247 change, because now I don't even care about the LAV lol. I think I talked myself out of wanting the York to go down to 8.7. Now that the VEAK is 8.7 the York definitely won't be moving down. It sucks but, can't really do anything about it.

I'm not sure. I did overpressure with the VEAK, but I haven't spent a lot of time shooting at MBT's with HE yet.

I honestly hated when it went to 9.0 it was fine at 8.7

Yorks breach block was just insane a lot of times, that helped it to stay up high. I don't played it for a long time, but is the bif fixed that you just fire 5 to 6 HEVT to a russian gun mantlet and the tanks die do to overpressure? I got some ridiculous 10 to 0 or 1 games in the York because of that. Small maps with big teams like american desert were perfect for it.

ive got to say, no the york should absolutely not go down, if anything it should go up to 9.3(same with the veak)

Um the proximity fuze is the only belt to bring my friend lol. It is really weirdly modeled and over pressures enemy tanks all the time, even mbts.
