War College and Wild Brown Trout (Fly Fishing Letort Spring Run and Mountain Creek Pa)

Фильм және анимация

In this video I fished a section of Letort Spring Run that unfortunately had a fish kill a few years ago. I figured that this part of the stream could use a little popularity to help protect these wild brown trout. The good news is that since the chemical spill, fish numbers are gradually increasing and the average size of fish is getting larger - so the area is again showing healthy growth to the population. I also fished Mountain Creek which is a very popular stream very close by. I was hoping for a big stocked rainbow. Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing for more fly fishing and fly tying content.

    Nice one, Justin! The Letort is really an interesting body of water. I’ve tried my hand for a few minutes when visiting the area for the Yellow Breaches, and only seen (not caught…yet) some beautiful fish. Thanks for sharing!

    That is easily the most trout I have ever seen caught on Letort. If Joe Humphreys saw you lying don't the ground and catching those trout he would be smiling ear to ear. Your videos are entertaining and your doing awesome man. Keep it going and keep making those videos.

    Some nice Letort browns in the war college. Hopefully you were on that stretch of Mountain prior to 2/21, as it's STW from upstream of there all the way to its confluence with YB... Don't want to see you get pinched by the fish cop! :)

    Just a heads up, wading in the creek is not permitted on the barracks. Plus, that whole section is covered with redds right now.

    Nice day. Do you find dry dropper any different from a wool indicator over a nymph strictly from a drift stand point?

  • @hotspotnymphing

    @hotspotnymphing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! A light indicator like a wool indicator has the same drift as a dry dropper in my opinion. As long as you match the size of indicator/dry to the weight of nymph you are fishing. My dad loves using the yarn indicators, since they don’t have a hook they untangle easier. I have been trying to practice the competition rules, so I was just using a dry dropper.

    Is dry dropper best way to nymph the letort?

  • @hotspotnymphing

    @hotspotnymphing

    A dry drop is great when you have to fish a nymph further away. A single nymph can be used to tuck the fly up under the many weed beds in there though.

    Nice video, Justin, but a bit of advice. Loose the background music. ANY background music. It really detracts from the video and makes it really hard to hear what you’re saying. Do you have earbuds in and listen to that while you’re fishing? Much better to hear the natural sounds or no sounds at all. Besides that, great video.
