    Seabiscuit put in a track record performance. The clock has the last word, it was not War Admiral having a slow race, and Seabiscuit a less slow one; Seabiscuit won. This does not diminish the greatness of War Admiral in my opinion. Both horses were very obviously great ones.

The Belmont is still a standing world record for any age or weight. The Derby is still a standing track record. For 50 years! It's like what defense is there for a traitorous revolutionary? American Pharoah's grandsire, Empire Maker, was a descendant of some of War Admiral's best descendants: Dr. Fager, Buckpasser, and Swaps. War Admiral's son, Mr. Busher, joins his full sisters, Busher and Striking, as antecedents of a Triple Crown winner. War Admiral, himself, is an antecedent of three Triple Crown winners: Seattle Slew, Affirmed, and American Pharoah. Empire Maker was also a descendant of War Relic's (Man o' War's son) tail male line (through In Reality).

    In response to the question as to what color War Admiral was, I do not know if the it is still the practice but in War Admiral's time a horse's registered color was largely determined by the color of the nose/muzzle at the time of filing. War Admiral was listed as a bay, but he become much darker as he grew. All contemporary accounts I have seen say the horse was essentially black, though perhaps not a true, deep black, which is a rare color in thoroughbreds (as is true white).

    The Admiral was a greater horse than Seabiscuit. I have always thought this and always will. A lot of people want to generalize him as "overrated" some such crap just because he lost the damn race to Seabiscuit. What a lot of people don't know is that the race favored the Biscuit from the beginning. Admiral had a history of not running well on the track. Anyways, The Admiral was a beautiful horse with a great legacy that he deserves to have all to himself, not constantly compared to Seabiscuit.

    it would be interesting to note whether war admirals time was compared to others at the same distance in his career then. Perhaps he did his best ever in the match race, which then leads to the next question or statement: Perhaps then, seabisquit might very well been the superior horse. only problem with that though is that Bisquit was 7 years old and WA was 4. and a horse reaches their peak in abilities after they turn 4. never know will we. WA legacy is marred by his loss though

    I do know Riddle didn't like racing in the West, but Kentucky is not west ... I was always led to believe he thought May was too early to race a horse. However, he had no qualms racing him in the Preakness and the Belmont, both races were in May. So who the hell knows? He denied Man O' War a great honor, he was a great horse but he could have been a Triple Crown Winner. Kind of made up for it with The Admiral.

    Seabiscuit was an abused horse really. Before Howard bought him they had him running claiming races. If Howard got him as a yearling or two year old horse and Smith trained him from the start, IMO we would be talking him being a clone of his grandfather. He was that good. WA was also good but the way Seabiscuit beat him in Plimpico, breaking the track record tells you all you need to know who was the faster horse.

  • @roundtable3501

    @roundtable3501

    4 жыл бұрын

    Arisgod27 Seabiscuit was trained by sunny Jim Fitzsimmons who was arguably the greatest trainer of all time. I doubt seabiscuit would’ve done so good if he was with smith from the beginning. No way is he a clone of man o’ war. And war admiral is the better horse. Seabiscuit was 33 for 89, with 28 out of money. A lot of his loses were early, but he still only won a little over 50% under Howard and smith. The admiral was 21 for 26 and pimlico was always a track where he underperformed. So seabiscuit beat him in a match race on a track he didn’t like. Also, match races just favor the one who gets the lead and favors jockey skill over horse ability. Look at swaps and Nashua. Almost everyone including Arcaro himself say swaps was the better horse, but Nashua destroyed him in the match race. War admiral was also much more versatile. He won from distances from 4.5 furlongs to 2 miles. Seabiscuit had a very limited versatility. He didn’t win anything over a mile and a quarter. He lost in his two tries at staying distances. So just because seabiscuit won their match race doesn’t mean he’s the faster/better horse. Seabiscuit would lose 3 in a row after this race. While war admiral only raced two more times, but won them both.

    more heart? Admiral lead and won in his races, not came from the back being sheltered... do u have anything to actually do with the horse racing industry or u just like spouting information from media and movies?

    clearly and honestly the best 2 horses known to race was seabiscut and secretariot. its undeniable.. to say less is to lie to yourself. we may never see race horses like them again. there just that rare.

    I beg to differ and say MOW. 20 wins out of 21 starts is freakin phenomenal. He's right up there near Secretariat.

    War Admiral's race history shows he was a far superior horse to Seabiscuit

    Riddle got the choice of race location. Riddle chose the standing start. biscuit didn't just beat him by a head. He beat him by 4 lengths FFS..bunch of crappy excuses. Guess Howard should have given Riddle a 4 length head start too???

    I don’t know for sure because they never raced each other but I am sure The Black Stallion would beat both, especially if that kid Alex was riding on The Black.

    and the better horses get to wear added weight....sometimes horrible amounts...as they did to seabisuit...par lap, etc....they sincerely tried to kill these horses back then...
