Want to see our gut-renovated walls before and after? (2.5 years in 15 minutes)
This video took me so long to edit, I almost went cross-eyed trying to search and match all the before footage to the now footage, haha. Looking at all the before footage, I definitely wondered many times how we had such a strong vision in taking this project on! Even with all the hiccups and delays, still very glad we are doing it.
Also- on the walls such a big thanks to Colin, George, Hugo and their crew from Robert D. Young Construction who have been meticulous about the framing and install for this part of the project. Putting drywall up in a 100 year old building is super quirky and they’ve just been rolling with it and solving problems as they come up.

My name is Bill Miller , I actually worked on that school in 1973 and 1974 for a small heating and cooling company out of Greenwood. Solder lady and her daughter were going to move in there. We were putting the furnaces in at that time. I’ve passed that place a million times over the years and wondered what they did to the inside. Glad to see your fixing it up.

Love that you are sharing this process with us. I am so excited to see the house completely finished. It’s so fascinating to me.
That was a good decision to keep and restore the brick, it's so beautiful! The drywall is really transforming the place, love it!!
I love the exposed brick. The larger windows made such a huge difference!
I have lived in Mooresville,Indiana all my life and have noticed that there are alot of abandoned structures like this. They usually get demolished for new construction because people do not want to take the extra time to rebuild these precious time pieces of history. Kudos to your family for taking the time and spending the money to save this school for the landfill.

Also because older buildings usually have asbestos which causes cancer and is very difficult and expensive to get it removed!!!

The exposed brick work is so beautiful! What a wonderful place to renovate and call home.
Nothing ages as wonderfully as brick
The old brick, combined with painted walls will be absolutely beautiful! I'm so happy for you, that you were able to save so much brick and hardwood flooring. I know it's five times harder to "remodel" old spaces, than to just build from scratch. The fact that you are able to save the school, will make all those who attended in the past, very happy!
This is such a cool project!! Posting any vid to youtube is an incredible boatload of work! The fact you are taking the time to not only do this enormous project, but record and post it, more then doubles your efforts. The amazing part about that is you will have all this footage of where you started to where you end. That will be worth everything!! This is going to be the coolest house ever to live in. Plus you are saving a part of IN history that, most likely, would have otherwise been lost.
It is fantastic that you are embracing what the building has to offer (high ceilings, large windows etc.) rather than fight against it like the previous owners did. It will be an exceptional home. The kids' bedrooms are crying out for loft beds or play spaces.
This is so awesome! You should frame some "before" pictures and do a gallery wall in one of your entrances or just in an area that appeals to you.
Great old building. So much character. I like all the high ceilings, spacious rooms, lots of natural light…
I'm so invested & love every video! I can't wait until it's completed & y'all get to move in and maybe?? We get vlogs or new videos?? Either way, this has been one of my favorite channels since you've started!

I cannot tell you how happy it makes this New Yorkers heart to see you guys appreciate exposed brick walls and work so hard to restore them ♥️
I always get so excited when I see you’ve posted a new video! The school/house is coming along so beautifully. I just love it! Thanks for sharing it with us! 😍
Incredible transformation!!!!! I'm soo happy for you and your family!!!! Your town is fortunate to have you there to save that piece of history!
The ceiling being white brightens the room up so much so i am voting white for the ceiling! Would look very classy :)
Thank you for saving this building and our shared cultural heritage
Truly magnificent…..the exposed brick, all of the drywall, the amount of light and those old doors. Awesome ❤❤❤❤
I love your updates and I absolutely adore all the exposed brick work.
Love seeing this come to fruition! Cannot wait to see the finished product. It is looking beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful renovations. I just don't understand, with over 4,000 square feet, the kids bedrooms are so small...why?
@FearsomeWarrior
Ай бұрын
I believe it is because bedrooms are for sleeping and do not need to be big. Likely utility related choice because controlling temperature there is more important for comfortable sleepy time. Just a guess. Also kind of a struggle once you start expanding the rooms because the four large rooms in the corners. They are divided to make the bedrooms and you’d end up having one bedroom somewhere else or smaller.

I found a bedroom shot in a more recent video. There was a DeWalt hole auger case that I also own. It is 26 inches wide. I used a dimension finding website and laid in the known length of the case. The bedrooms looked small but they’re larger than they looked on the floor plans. When a man was standing in there you could see the scale of the space. If the bedroom had a large bed on it we’d see how big they really are in reality. Online image dimension thing gave me rough dimensions that were really big in the width at 15 feet and that was the short distance. The long dimension is low 20 or even 39 feet but with a chunk taken by the walk-in closet. The camera angle and room had hidden area. Making estimating futile or speculative at best.
This house is going to be absolutely amazing when complete!
Hurray for drywall! One can really start to envision living in the rooms once there is drywall. The original floors that can be saved and restored are going to be GORGEOUS 😍
Oh, that is looking FANTASTIC! I'm sure you are really excited about how much it's beginning to look like your vision! I loved the part that showed the workers putting up the dry wall! Seeing the painters fast forward as well would be hilarious! I recently remodeled my 100 year old Indiana farmhouse including the floors. After removing linoleum, carpet, and sub floors, I discovered original wood floors in the whole house! I refinished them myself, and they turned out absolutely beautiful! I'm definitely looking forward to your next video!
I really like the brick and all the natural light. It looks really nice.
Thank you for taking us along on your journey. I'm an Indiana girl too. Iving in Florida now.
It's looking more and more like a house ! It's exciting \o/ I love how you credit the various teams of contractors working on the house (not just in this video, either). It's very clear that you are passionate about this building, but you're also acurately depicting the group effort required to bring this school into the 21st century, and it's heartwarming to see :)

Love watching your videos. I’m an American living in a small village in SW France and love watching people work on their old houses here. The exposed brick is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see the floors!
I can’t get enough of your updates and process videos. You are making fantastic choices: raising those ceilings, keeping that amazing brick, opening these incredible spaces, etc. I admire what you are doing and love that you are sharing the process with us!
many large homes share a lonely feel, this one is joyish.
Your plan and dream is amazing and the changes are really beautiful. Not sure how the very high ceilings will be like but, it is a school to home afterall. Patience, love, hard work and dream…so proud of you
Loving that you are sharing this adventure with us. I am fascinated with the entire process.

Many blessings to you and your family, thank you for sharing your journey 🙏🏿💗💕
Wow. You've made a lot of progress.
YAY!! A new video!!
I had a friend who lived in a similar sized and age school house i loved staying there overnight ! To say it was haunted is an understatement, but a happy haunting, the sprits seemed to romp thru out the school house, crazy sounds of footfalls as if children were playing especially at night but sometimes even during the day...always had a warm happy feeling when i experienced the phenominon. I think Kurt Vonnegot wrote somewhere that his idea of heaven was that you got to choose a certain time and age of your life as your heaven, and that always came to mind...
All the exposed brick is gorgeous. I am glad you are giving the building a new purpose.
Appreciate you sharing your journey with us! Excited to see the next update !
So beautiful!!! I'm blown away and can't wait to see how you continue to improve this building!
Thank you for sharing.Love that you have kept all the brick. So much work and love put into this home.
So cool you decided to save this building! It takes a ton of money so it's so awesome there are people like you that can and will do this! I'm really enjoying seeing the documentation of the progress. Thank you!
This is an exciting renovation!!!
Your home really hits me in the feels. I LOVE old buildings and have wanted to renovate and live in a building just like this since I was probably 10 years old. You guys are an inspiration! I LOVE your content!!
Keep up the good work! I love seeing what you are getting accomplished.
It's gorgeous! I love the love and care you guys are pouring into this place. What a dream project!
I love this project. You’re so courageous! Keep it up!
I’m excited to see this!!! A friend of mine from high school just moved back to our home state & she & her hubby bought a school to turn it into their home!!! I LOVE seeing old things become something new.
An actual Schoolhouse! 💯😊✌🏾❤️
Thank you for letting us see this awesome progress.
Such an undertaking. So much fun to watch. Thank you for sharing.
It's looking more and more amazing with each video, I'm very impressed! Everything is really coming together and isn't looking choppy or cobbled together at all. It looks very appealing and comfortable, even the basement area. The ceilings in the basement look tall and consequently the space doesn't look cramped or like a dungeon.
Glad to see another update ☺️
You are doing one of the coolest things possible, and I love seeing your progress in these updates. Thank you.
I’m loving following this adventure. Can’t wait to see it finished, as I know you are.
I agree with many of the comments about the bricks. They are awesome looking n so happy you decided to expose them. When installing the drywall n muddying it had to take many hours of taping n muddying but it’s beginning to look like a home. I did have a hard time figuring out the before n after of each room. Doesn’t really matter I’m liking your idea of the design. Want thank you for sharing this wonderful journey you n your family are investing in. It’s going to be a huge undertaking but there is happiness n light at the end. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟🌟
I am so happy for you guys. What a great life you will have in this old school♡
Such a nice update! Looks like the weather is behaving this season. It's really coming together now. So excited to see the next part!
You are doing a wonderful job with this gem. For nostalgia sake, I’d be tempted to glue a couple spit balls to the ceiling and a #2 pencil hanging out of the drywall as well.
So happy you are not covering up all the brick.

@@Schoolhousehomestead Long story short, we’re adding onto the outside of our house and I am keeping the brick uncovered.
All the exposed brick with all of those widows spilling light in is going to be super beautiful
I rented an apt in a refurbished 1919 High School in Portland, Michigan, for a year. It was the most God awful experience. I could hear everything in the apt below mw and beside me. Zero insulation in new floor or walls One would have expected to be totally insulated from the noise. Nope. I see with the way you are rebuilding walls and ceilings that you're going to experience the same. The added expense for insulation is worth every dime.

Most of the walls are 3 brick thick, and we plan to work on basement later! Right now, no one else will be in the basement anyway.

Love love love it!!
I’m honestly envious of this project on so many levels. Your amazing work and love for this house 🏡 is truly inspiring! ❤❤❤
You're really making progress! The size of the rooms like the kitchen doesn't seem that large until you see a human in it and then it becomes clear that the kitchen is a biggggg room! Looking forward to the next video!

I really admire your vision for this old school; amazing.
What an amazing project! It's going to be such a beautiful home. Thank you for sharing.
Real hardwood floors!!! Beautiful⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for sharing this project.
What an incredible transformation!! I am beyond happy and excited for you and your family!! I am absolutely in love with old buildings, and schools in particular. I don’t know exactly why but they are awesome structures aren’t they! I’ve gutted and remodeled several 100 or so year old homes. It’s a complete understatement to say that they have their own “quirks” and challenges. But daaaamn it is so rewarding to salvage things and breath new life into a structure that was so meticulously hand crafted at one time. I cannot wait to see more footage of how each of your projects take shape ❤️
This is phenomenal! I cannot imagine undertaking such a huge project but it looks great. Lots of hard work for sure but it's gonna be awesome once it's all finished. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
I went to a high school in rural Illinois in the early 70's that was a tad bigger than this with 2 floors above a basement. I think it was built in the late 1800s', so about the same generation of builders, I suppose. I always thought it was really cool and it looked a lot like your new home with those TALL ceilings and windows. It was destroyed by a tornado some years after I graduated, and I wish now I'd gone back to see it before that happened. I drove by it several times when visiting my folks who lived there till the 90's, but I wish I'd gone back inside for a quick walk-thru. I found myself smiling at the drone video of the outside and then many of the inside shots as well. I know your new home will serve you well, and it will be a great place to raise your kids, too. Congratulations and thanks for the video!
Yall are living the dream, and I’m so excited for y’all!
I have never been so excited to see a house built before. It is really coming along and can't wait to see your finished school turned into a home. :)

I can not wait to see when it is all done. I love all the exposed brick looks absolutely amazing. Won't lie I am envious!
Exciting!! Thanks for sharing!
So amazing. Absolutely love watching your progress!
I say this each time, but it's really very exciting to watch your progress. I'm glad this video was a longer one. I was thinking... seeing that your bedroom closet is so tall, it would be very cool to incorporate a chain and pulley arrangement to raise and lower a shirt rack/bar or shoe rack to add functionality and character to the space? There might be other areas in the house where something like this could add the cool factor too?

Oh yeah!! I was considering something like that, those are the fun things to brainstorm. Right now still in the not-so-fun-but-so-necessary brainstorm phase haha
I always enjoy seeing the updates! I drove past your project (not a stalker) and realized I had been to an auction a couple years past, at the farm across the road from you. The place looks way better now, even with the construction going on. Can't wait to see the next update!
This place is going to be amazing when it’s finished.
love this house and your videos.
I am so glad you didn’t choose to DIY this. My eyes roll a lot when a project this large is taken on Willy nilly. Thanks for the update. I am so excited you have found solid contractors for this endeavor. It looks so good!
Beautiful . . . your refinished doors look so nice and I love how you have designed the whole thing.
Thank you for the videos! I really appreciate the footage and the process!
What a beautiful home in the making!!!
Another awesome video! We’re all rooting for you guys. 👍 ✌️
So much progress. It's really starting to come together. Love your videos.
I hope you keep the wall and ceiling colors more neutral to keep it light and airy. It's such a beautiful space, would hate to see it over powered by oversaturated colors. Leave that for the decor and furnishings. Love these videos!
Thanks for the update 😊😊
